    A splendid straight drive down the ground off Olly Hannon-Dalby brings Joe Clarke four more.

    Except for a few moments it's been a flawless knock.

    He needs one more for 1,000 Championship runs this season.

    And there it is! A nudged single into the offside brings up the landmark. Well played, sir!

    Matt Milnes and Keith Dudgeon are bending their backs trying to get an early breakthrough.

    Showing real application trying to wrestle the initiative back after their side lost eight wickets pretty feebly in the opening session of the day.

    Lots of oohs and ahs in the slip cordon but Luke Procter and Ricardo Vasconcelos remain unbowed for now.

    Rishi Patel gets the ball rolling immediately with a first-bal four off Ben Coad.

    Harrison Gumbs then drives through the covers for his second boundary off Jack White's first over. A profitable start for the Foxes.

    Uh-oh, coats in the crowd are hurriedly being put on.

    Play still hasn't resumed after tea at Sophia Gardens - it's raining in Cardiff.

    Matt Milnes finds the edge of Luke Procter's bat but the balls flashes low past the dive of Tawanda Muyeye in the slips and races away for four runs.

    The over has cost nine runs but Milnes caused a lot of problems in it.

    Leicestershire openers Rishi Patel and Harrison Gumbs are in the middle and ready to begin the reply to Yorkshire's first innings knock of 263.

    You'd imagine both camps will be reasonably happy with proceedings so far. The hosts maybe moreso after that late innings rally.

    Big appeal for lbw from Keith Dudgeon as he almost cuts Luke Procter in half as he thumps him on the thigh pad with one which straightens up, but it looks a touch high and the verdict is not out.

    Essex resume batting after tea having lost those four quick wickets before the interval.

    Overcast, but not too dark or wet at Hove for what could be another monster evening session. We raise 41 overs to Wantage Road's 40!

    Jaydev Unadkat to take the first over into Tom Lammonby who has faced most of the strike so far in this innings.

    It's markedly gloomier and the lights have come on during the interval.

    Nothing to choose between the two teams at tea on this the second day.

    Sussex secured the only batting point of the game largely due to John Simpson making his third half century of the season, and with it a useful lead of 48.

    Somerset are halfway to wiping out those arrears at tea with all wickets intact, but with 41 overs still to be bowled today, weather permitting, this game is moving on a pace.

    However, with a poor weather forecast over the next two days there may not be enough time for either side to secure a positive result.

    A brilliant and telling century by Dean Elgar (191 balls, 14x4s & 1x6) has slowly put Essex into a healthy position at tea on day two at Chelmsford.

    Elgar has taken much pain for his endeavours, from late last night and throughout today. Elgar eventually went to a long hop off Mahipal Lomror, one of two Indian Spinners playing in the Surrey XI.Charlie Allison went first after lunch - sharing a 111 run partnership with Elgar before Matt Critchley joined the South African and added 51 more.

    Critchley nicked an extremely thin edge through to Ben Foakes off Tom Lawes. Michael Pepper was snaffled at first slip, whilst Zaman Ahktar caught at mid-on - a soft dismissal.At tea the home side have a 65 run lead over Surrey with just three first innings wickets in hand.
