  1. Division Two update

    Two in two balls for Middlesex's Ryan Higgins at Derby as he has Matt Montgomery (30) caught brilliantly by Joe Cracknell down to his right and then Wayne Madsen gets an inside edge onto his own timbers from the very next ball. Martin Andersson survives the hat-trick ball, however. Derbyshire 76-3 after 29 overs.

    Lancashire are 57-3 in the 29th with Keaton Jennings and Rocky Flintoff both past 20, though the latter's strike rate is three times higher.

  2. First batting point for Kent

    Northants v Kent 251-7

    Daniel Bell-Drummond takes a single off Yuzi Chahal and that brings up the 250 for Kent and their first batting bonus point.

    Fair to say it hasn't panned out as the visitors would have expected.

    A seventh wicket of the morning falls as Northamptonshire continue to boss the session.

    Grant Stewart goes back to leggie Calvin Harrison and plays all around a straight ball which keeps low and knocks back the middle stump.

    Another curious shot from a Kent batter. The visitors started the day at 154-0.

    Keith Dudgeon joins Daniel Bell-Drummond who must be wondering what on earth is going on.

    Gloucestershire are fighting back here, particularly since Ben Stokes' dismissal and then the brief rain delay.

    An odd Championship dismissal, but David Bedingham had been hitting them so cleanly he thought he could clear long on for six off Daz Ahmed. Not a great shot for the team situation though.

    A bit too confident from the South African Test star, and a nice catch tumbling forward from his former teammate Mitch Killeen.

    Durham do not lead by much, but they bat so deep.

    50 for Ben Martindale

    Warks v Notts 101-2

    Well played, young man.

    Ethan Bamber is a little wide and Ben Martindale drives to the short boundary to bring up his maiden first-class half-century in just his third innings.

    He was promoted up the order to open with Ben Slater missing and has looked right at home, after his senior partner Haseeb Hameed had departed for a duck.

    The landmark comes up off just 72 balls, with seven fours, and also brings up three figures for Notts.

    James Coles' poor season with the bat, since people touted him to be England's next spin bowling allrounder, continues.

    Trying to pull off the front foot over the hospitality tents into the flats was not the right shot off a bustling oft-injured seamer like Lewis Gregory who rarely bowls quick and short enough to pull for six these days.

    His 31 ball struggle saw him score just 10, and six of them came in one blow off Jack Leach straight down the ground.

    New signing Joey Evison from Kent is in at seven, Sussex bat deep as ever.

    Beautiful from Joe Clarke as he stands up and shows Jordan Thompson the full face of a straight blade, pushing straight down the ground for four.

    Bimey, he's looked in some touch this morning.

    A drive through the offside brings four more before a pull for two more takes the former Pears man racing along to 43 off 68 balls.

    Only 25 balls have been possible on day two so far in Cardiff and they're taking an early lunch.

    Hopefully a resumption at 13:25 BST.

    Daz Ahmed gets his first bowl of the second day.

    James Bracey stood up to the stumps of course, he has to do that a lot with this Glos bowling attack and does it very well.

    David Bedingham has been slightly becalmed since the rain delay, a couple of quick wickets, overcast conditions, a wetter outfield and better, slower bowling probably all factors contributing to that fact.

    Another one bites the dust.

    Ekansh Singh takes the returning Yuzi Chahal for four as Northamptonshire turn to spin before lunch.

    The India leggie has instant revenge, giving his next ball a bit more flight. Singh sweeps it aerially to James Sales at midwicket who stretches to pouch the chance.

    Singh goes for a breezy 19 and Kent lose a sixth wicket of the morning.

    Grant Stewart takes his place.

    Sussex 172-4 v Somerset 202

    James Coles releases the shackles going from four off 24 balls to 10 off 25 balls, using his feet well to take Jack Leach for a straight six.

    The other five balls of the over are dots.

    Miggy Pretorius has 1-34 off eight alongside Leach.

    Joe Clarke then finds his timing once again and the ball trickles along towards the boundary, cruelly tempting Olly Hannon-Dalby into the chase before deciding to plop over the rope.

  16. Division Two update

    Rocky Flintoff is swiftly into double figures for the Red Rose at Worcester with a glorious cover drive off Beyers Swanepoel for four, holding the pose for good measure.

    Lancs are 43-3 after 23 overs.

    Caleb Jewell has 31* and Matt Montgomery 25* as Derbyshire reach 67-1 from 25 overs against Middlesex.

    Half-century number 133 for Dean Elgar in first-class cricket - 55 of which he's converted into hundreds.

    The South African is really into his stride now, having struck seven fours and a six.

    Essex trail by just 88 and are in a fine position with eight wickets in hand.

    Ed Barnard turns to Jordan Thompson to wrestle back the momentum, replacing Michael Booth.

    Joe Clarke looks in good nick this morning and only a super diving stop from Dan Mousley denies him four more. Single from the over.
