    Dragons 0-7 Scarlets

First real glimpse of Dragons in attack, with some forceful carries and then a cunning offload to put Huw Anderson into the 22.

It's followed by a grubber through but Scarlets scramble and clear.

Chance for another Dragons attack just outside the 22.

That's what Macs Page offers. He's so fast and he can create something out of nothing. He had to do a lot of work to score from there.

    What a start by Scarlets!

Wing Macs Page races away down the left past Shane Lewis-Hughes, kicks ahead over Rio Dyer, gathers and finishes strongly for a superb solo score.

    Costelow adds the extras.

Great atmosphere here at Rodney Parade.

  5. Stakes are highpublished at 14:59 BST 3 October

    Dragons v Scarlets (15:00 BST)

The teams are out for what is a huge game for Dragons.

It's far too early to be talking about it being must-win, but a victory here would show that they can build on an encouraging 2025-26.

Defeat would have their long-suffering supporters fearing the same old, same old.

Dragons are pretty much full strength with Angus O'Brien, who took part in the warm-up as he gets close to a return from a leg injury, and Ereatara Enari the notable absentees.

Scarlets have some injury concerns - what they would give to have Fletcher Anderson and Taine Plumtree out there - but need to respond to a poor display against Cardiff in round one.

They started slowly last season and can ill afford a repeat.

The stakes are high in a gloriously sunny Newport.

It's very hard to predict this game this early in the season, but if you go back to pre-season when they played a friendly, Dragons came out on top.

I think it's going to be a very even game, a very physical game. I'm excited.

Rhodri Williams leads out Dragons on his 150th appearance for the club - and what a signing the scrum-half has turned out to be.

He was attracted to Rodney Parade in 2018 by Bernard Jackman and his consistency eventually earned a return to the international stage.

Williams won his fourth cap against Australia in the 2024 autumn Tests - a decade on from his third international outing.

The stalwart, a former Scarlet, is excited about running out at Rodney Parade.

"It will be a special occasion and I couldn't ask for much better on a Saturday at home in front of our fans," said Williams.

"I'll be leading the team out with my two little girls, so it's going to be a big occasion for the family."

I think Dragons are going to be carrying the confidence coming into this game after what was a very good result drawing away against Benetton.

Wales playmaker Sam Costelow is back from a head injury to start at fly-half for Scarlets, with Gareth Anscombe dropping out of the 23.

Dan Davis starts at open-side flanker to allow Sam Lousi to return to his favoured position of lock, where he partners summer signing Alex Groves.

Props Kemsley Mathias and Harri O'Connor start while Wales international Gareth Davies is on the bench.

Johnny Williams was meant to be alongside him but is a late withdrawal, with Ioan Jones wearing 23.

Scarlets: Murray; Mee, Roberts, James, Page; Costelow, Blacker; Mathias, Elias, H O'Connor, Groves, Lousi, Macleod (capt), D Davis, O Williams.

    Replacements: McKee, S O'Connor, Hawley, W Evans, T Davies, G Davies, Hawkins, J Williams.

Dragons have been given a big boost with the return of lock Ben Carter.

The co-captain wasn't risked in Benetton after an ankle injury suffered with Wales in the summer but starts in Newport.

The backs are the same but Filo Tiatia strengthens his front row with hooker Elliot Dee and tight-head prop Rob Hunt while Shane Lewis-Hughes and Harri Keddie join the influential Thomas Young in the back row.

Tight-head Dillon Lewis, who returned with Wales in the summer, is among the replacements.

Dragons: Anderson; Dyer, Inisi, Owen, Tuitavuki; de Beer, Williams; Martinez, Dee, Hunt, S Davies, Carter (capt), Lewis-Hughes, Young, Keddie.

Replacements: Coghlan, R Jones, Lewis, Woodman, Beddall, Hope, J Lloyd, Paea.

A general view of Rodney ParadeImage source, Huw Evans Picture Agency

It's swiftly onto the next URC fixture and hopefully it should be a cracking Welsh derby at Rodney Parade as Dragons host Scarlets.

Filo Tiatia's side drew at Benetton in round one while today's visitors suffered a defeat by Cardiff in Llanelli.

Dragons produced one of their best performances in recent times to thrash Scarlets 28-5 on New Year's Day.

It's a packed house this afternoon with home fans hopeful of a repeat.

    Let's rattle through the teams...

  12. Huge week ahead for Ospreyspublished at 14:51 BST 3 October

    FT: Lions 35-19 Ospreys

    Fraser Watson
    BBC Sport Wales reporter

For 40 minutes, Ospreys went toe-to-toe with their hosts and were worthy of the half-time lead. Kieran Hardy was a constant threat around the breakdown and young No.8 Morgan Morse underlined his promise with a display of physicality and maturity.

But a failure to get hold of any sustained possession after the interval, not to mention the power of the home pack and energy sapping altitude, signified why this contest went from being absorbing to one-way traffic.

As for Lions, very few URC sides will win at Ellis Park this season. If they can replicate their early-season form outside of South Africa, they could be serious contenders.

No doubt, Mark Jones will now be relieved to get home and focus on a pivotal derby at Dragons this coming Friday.

Ospreys will leave South Africa with a single bonus point from two games few expected them to win. But a third successive league loss next weekend, and they will go into the European break under pressure.

  13. 'We need that 80-minute performance'published at 14:48 BST 3 October

    FT: Lions 35-19 Ospreys

Ospreys co-captain Keelan Giles speaking to Premier Sports: "I think we were pleased to be ahead half-time and we started pretty well.

"But credit to Lions they started strongly second half and we gave away too may penalties. When they got in the red zone they were tough to stop.

"We need an 80 minute performance. Like I said ahead at half-time but we need to see how we keep that intensity."

  14. Man of the Match: Francke Hornpublished at 14:45 BST 3 October

    FT: Lions 35-19 Ospreys

Home Captain Francke Horn has certainly been given a platform from scrums by his fellow forwards today and he made the most of it.

The No.8 has carried with venom, and also been on hand in the loose too as the offload for Boeta Chamberlain's try showed. A worthy choice.

"It was a tough grind win," he tells Premier Sports.

"Not perfect but we got our five points."

  15. Full-time: Lions 35-19 Ospreyspublished at 14:43 BST 3 October

    A tale of two halves.

    From toe-to-toe to one-way traffic.

Ospreys will be pleased to head back to Wales and focus on Dragons next Friday.

  16. try

Converted try: Lions 35-19 Ospreyspublished at 14:41 BST 3 October

    Ross Moriarty (con: Dan Edwards)

Too little, too late, but final word to Ospreys.

With the hooter already gone, a close range lineout drive results in a try for Ross Moriarty and the away side at least played until the dying moments.

Dan Edwards lands the conversion and makes the final score look a little better.

  17. Postpublished at 80 mins

    Lions 35-12 Ospreys

Ospreys just cannot string any phases together, and another attack breaks down meekly.

From being deservedly in front at the break, the visitors really have been overpowered in the second half. The face of head coach Mark Jones right now says as much.

  18. Postpublished at 76 mins

    Lions 35-12 Ospreys

Rather than pushing for a losing bonus point, Ospreys are simply being forced to keep defending here.

Another penalty and a close range Lions lineout - but this time they are pinged for obstruction as they go for the rolling maul. It will stay at 35-12 for now.

  19. Postpublished at 73 mins

    Lions 35-12 Ospreys

Ospreys finally get some possession but are going nowhere with it.

Eventually, Lawson Creighton tries to pin Lions back in their own 22 but his kick rolls over the dead ball line.

In more positive news, Dan Edwards is back on and the visitors have 15 again.

  20. try

Try: Lions 35-12 Ospreyspublished at 66 mins

    Kelly Mpeku

    A brilliant try.

Lions are constantly on the front foot now and while he might not have his kicking boots on, Chris Smith makes a break and combines with Richard Kriel, who in turn puts Mpeku over out wide.

Boeta Chamberlain takes over the conversion duties but he too is off target.
