  3. try

Converted try: Sale 12-14 Glasgowpublished at 22 mins

    Kyle Steyn (con George Horne)

    No mistake this time.

It's brilliant from Jamie Dobie, who comes off his wing and runs a lovely line to ghost through a gap before finding his captain Kyle Steyn out wide.

He races down the line to score and George Horne adds the extras to give Glasgow the lead for the first time in the match.

    Sale 12-7 Glasgow

Glasgow look certain to score after a blistering attack, but Rory Darge knocks on with the line beckoning.

Kyle Steyn released his Scotland team-mate down the right flank, but the chance goes begging.

    Sale 12-7 Glasgow

Glasgow kick their penalty into the corner, but can't capitalise against the hosts' 13-man defence.

Their line-out goes wrong and Sale have a scrum and the chance to clear.

  6. Sin-bin: Tom Roebuck (Sale)published at 18 mins

    Sale 12-7 Glasgow

    No surprises there.

That would be a yellow card in football too. Tom Roebuck looks slightly bemused, but really he's fortunate that it's only a penalty and not another penalty try.

Kyle Steyn's kick went into touch rather than towards the in-goal line.

    Sale 12-7 Glasgow

    This is a great watch.

Kyle Steyn gets on the end of a brilliantly judged kick from Jamie Dobie and after he hacks the loose ball on, the Glasgow captain is wiped out by a slide tackle from England winger Tom Roebuck.

This will surely be another card.

  8. Sin-bin: Gus Warr (Sale)published at 17 mins

    Sale 12-7 Glasgow

For his role in illegally stopping the Glasgow maul, Sale scrum-half Gus Warr is shown a yellow card.

The hosts are down to 14 for the next 10 minutes.

    Sale 12-0 Glasgow

Glasgow have their first meaningful spell of possession, which ends with full-back Kyle Rowe kicking into open space.

He thinks that was a 50-22 but the officials disagree.

In any case, Sale make a meal of the line-out and Glasgow have the ball back via a scrum.

  12. try

Try: Sale 12-0 Glasgowpublished at 9 mins

    Arron Reed

    It's been coming.

Sale seem to get over the gain line with every carry and there's plenty of space out wide for Scotland wing Arron Reed to score the second try of the game.

George Ford's conversion attempt is off target.

  13. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Sale 7-0 Glasgow

This time Sale do pile bodies into a maul from their line-out.

They get over the Glasgow line, but are held up by the scrambling Warriors defence.

  14. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Sale 7-0 Glasgow

Another penalty goes the way of the hosts as they try to turn this early dominance into a second try.

  16. try

Converted try: Sale 7-0 Glasgowpublished at 3 mins

    Ben Curry (con George Ford)

What a start for the hosts.

Courtney Lawes claims the line-out and with Glasgow expected a rolling maul, Ben Curry spins away and scores the game's first try, with the visitors' defence totally unaware.

George Ford adds the extras off the tee.

  20. New rules for 2026-27published at 12:57 BST 17 October

Try-scoring bonus points in this season's Champions Cup pool stage will be awarded only to teams who cross at least three more times than their opponents - rather than for simply scoring four or more tries.

It has been felt that losing teams could pick up a four-try bonus point too easily as opponents with a comfortable lead ease off in the final quarter.

There will also be a change in qualification criteria for the last-16 stage.

Previously, the top four teams from each of the four six-strong pools would progress, with home advantage in the knockouts decided by a seeding based on group-stage records.

Only three teams from each of the four pools will now go through automatically, with the remaining four last-16 spots allocated on the basis of table points collected.
