Wakefield need to be at their very best, beast the middle of the park, be disciplined, kick well and hope for a low official bias. Dreaming….

    Wigan 0-0 Wakefield

Wigan put a kick in on the last tackle to the corner with Liam Marshall making chase.

But Wakefield's Lachlan Walmsley is having none of it, catches the ball in the air and refuses to give up possession.

Soon after, Wigan concede a penalty as Harry Smith tips up Mike McMeeken in the tackle.

This tie's getting a bit more frantic.

    Wigan 0-0 Wakefield

Ten minutes in and Wakefield are penalised for not getting back fast enough after tackling Liam Marshall.

Some sarcastic jeers go up, probably because it's taken so long for something like that to happen as much as anything.

    Wigan 0-0 Wakefield

I don't think the ball's even gone into touch yet and we're approaching the 10-minute mark.

And just as I type that, Harry Smith kicks upfield which just keeps bouncing and goes dead.

Mind you, says a lot I'm even thinking about stuff like that, such is the lack of errors on show in this semi-final so far.

The ball's been in play for the opening seven minutes of the game and it's been non stop. Just hammer and tongs at each other.

    Wigan 0-0 Wakefield

Wakefield boss Daryl Powell is stood up in the stands rather than opting to sit.

Clearly he's feeling just as up for this semi-final as his players are, as they do well to gain ground from another et.

Very much an arm wrestle early on here. Neither side giving a whole lot away but the game's being ground out in the centre of the field.

Harry Smith is forced to boot another kick on the turnover upfield as Wigan are kept deep inside their own half from another set.

Wakefield are doing well to keep the pressure on early doors, here.

Trinity have finished all their sets so far in the Wigan half of the field.

    Wigan 0-0 Wakefield

This is Wakefield's seventh Super League play-off game. For Wigan, it is their 64th in the Super League era.

Trinity do well to keep Wigan pegged in their own half, with Harry Smith opting to kick on the fifth tackle.

Some big tackles going in early on, here.

We're under way at a raucous Brick Community Stadium.

Will Wigan reach yet another Super League Grand Final? Or will Wakefield cause a shock and ensure we get a new name on the trophy next week?

Wakefield are very unpredictable. Once they get their offload game going and Jake Trueman gets on the back of it, it will be very disruptive for Wigan who get into that grind game and pin you down.

If Wakefield can come up with a different gameplan and try and move them around a little bit then it's anyone's game.

Wakefield make one change to their line-up for tonight's trip to the Brick Community Stadium.

Trinity boss Daryl Powell names Jack Sinfield in place of Emre Guler who is suspended.

Guler picked up a three-game ban after his sending off for a punch on Leigh's Owen Trout in last week's eliminator tie.

Wakefield: Jowitt; Walmsley, Scott, Hall, Johnstone; Trueman, Sinfield; McMeeken, Smoothy, Rodwell, Lipowicz, Vagana, Tevaga.

    Interchanges: Lino, Pitts, Hamlin-Uele, Faatili.

If Wigan Warriors are the grizzled old hands coming into tonight's Super League play-off semi-final, their opponents Wakefield Trinity are the fresh, new blood hoping to make a big statement.

Trinity were a Championship side as recently as 2024 but their overhaul and subsequent promotion back to the top flight has reinvigorated them, making the play-offs in back-to-back years, and they are now just 80 minutes from the Grand Final for the first time in the competition's history.

Their opponents, meanwhile, are serial winners, having already regained the Challenge Cup and League Leaders' Shield they surrendered in 2025.

Super League: Warrington reach Grand Final with narrow Leeds win

Warrington Wolves have reached their first Super League Grand Final in eight years with a thrilling victory against Leeds Rhinos at AMT Headingley Stadium.

In a tense and topsy-turvy semi-final the sides traded two first-half tries each and were locked at 12-12 at the break, before the Wolves were awarded a contentious penalty which was slotted nervelessly by 18-year-old Ewan Irwin to nudge them ahead.

Half-back Jake Connor scored 10 points for an injury-depleted Rhinos, including a first-half try which he inventively created in midfield, and attempted a goal-kick from 62 metres out with the final play of the game but the ball landed short of the sticks.

The Wolves will face the winners of either Wigan Warriors or Wakefield Trinity in the showpiece final at Old Trafford next Saturday, as they stand just one win away from a first league title since 1955.
