Lando Norris and McLaren beat Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli to take a masterful strategic victory in a compelling Dutch Grand Prix.

A topsy-turvy race started amid chaos as Max Verstappen crashed his Red Bull at high speed on a damp track at the end of the first lap, leading to a red flag.

Antonelli took the lead from Norris at the restart, but through two pit stops, Norris built a tyre offset to fight back and pass Antonelli for the win.

Lewis Hamilton was leading the race at the time, just ahead of the battling pair, out of sync on his pit stops, but Norris went past him further around the same lap to take the lead on track.

A late virtual safety car led to some team orders controversy at Mercedes as George Russell was ordered to let Antonelli past into second place, leaving him vulnerable to Hamilton.

But Russell, with help from a further late virtual safety car to allow marshals to recover debris on track, held Hamilton off to take the final podium position.

So Lando Norris did it again. He had to work for it but in the end he put together a composed drive to wrap up his second successive race victory.

Max Verstappen's first lap crash certainly provided some early drama but the action wasn't done there.

A moment of reflection for the respective performance of Yuki Tsunoda - who finished just outside the points having had less than a week's notice to step into the Racing Bulls car for the first time - and Liam Lawson, who, late penalty aside, had a very respectful showing in the Red Bull all weekend as he filled in for the injured Isack Hadjar.

As for now, with Norris bridging the gap to championship leader Kimi Antonelli and George Russell level on points with Lewis Hamilton, could we be in for a thrilling end to the season just like we were in 2025?

Well the action continues in Monza as the Formula 1 festival returns to the temple of speed.

We'll see you then, in two weeks' time.

  3. 'My goal is to try and lead this team to the championship' - Hamiltonpublished at 17:22 BST

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton speaking to Sky Sports after finishing P4: "Firstly the team, the guys in the garage did a fantastic job with pit stops, the strategy, it was generally very good. The car was fanatastic and they've worked so hard to continue with a bit of an upgrade here, chipping away at it all the time. This first half of the season, we've been losing three to five tenths on the straight depending on which track we go to. It's hard definitely to overcome but we're close.

"Today was definitely frustrating for me. I'm here to win and i think this team can win. We couldn't win this race but to win championships you have to pick up every point and the last few races have been difficult with penalties and stuff and then today I lost several seconds behind Charles which I think ultimately could have made the difference in the end. My goal is to try and lead this team to the championship. We've got some work to do for sure.

"We need to hit the ground running [in Monza] and have a perfect execution. I really hope our pace is a little better in Monza and we can fight. To go to Monza as a Ferrari driver and be towards the front would be something special."

  4. Paid the price for qualifying - Leclercpublished at 17:17 BST

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, speaking to Sky Sports: "I didn't really understand why we had to box so close to George [Russell's] pit stop because that really was signing to finish behind him. I felt like there was a bit more in my tyres. Me and Lewis [Hamilton] were on different strategies. At the end of the day, it is what it is. Unlucky with the virtual safety car timing. I don't think we did a good job in qualifying and paid the price by starting further back.

"Monza is extremely special as a Ferrari driver, I don't know what to expect. It's probably going to be a difficult weekend."

  5. 'Crash could've been worse' - Verstappenpublished at 17:10 BST

Red Bull's Max Verstappen, speaking to Sky Sports, after crashing out of his final home race: "It was quite wet in that corner. As soon as I went through the corner, I could see a bit of a dry line coming. I thought I could accelerate again up, suddenly it accelerated a lot. It caught me out, I tried to correct it, couldn't. It could've been a lot worse, there were a lot of cars behind me. Luckily, it all went well."

"If you look at us in the whole season, we're the fourth fastest. This weekend highlighted that. We're a little bit behind, we want to be closer. We're getting towards the end of the season now, we're looking at next year, there's a few things that we can only change next year. We'll try to maximise everything we can with this car, it's not going to be the most straightforward end to the season, but we'll try to do the best we can."

  6. Tough calls but needed to be done - Wolffpublished at 17:04 BST

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, speaking to Sky Sports: "We lost so much performance on both cars, we couldn't hold position to [Lando] Norris. Finishing in second an third was damage limitation."

On asking George Russell to switch places with Kimi Antonelli: "It looks difficult on the outside but not in the inside. We discuss it often, we aren't going to fight each other with two Ferraris down our neck. It's not about championship, just protecting the best positions."

"There was some tough calls but they needed to be done."

Here's the lay of the land in the drivers' championship.

George Russell, by virtue of his two wins this season, moves above Lewis Hamilton in the standings but level on points.

That means Kimi Antonelli, having finished second in today's race, is now 59 points.

Lando Norris, who strung together back-to-back wins thanks to his triumph at Zandvoort, is 83 points behind but his rapidly chasing the leading pack.

  8. 'We have to give a little bit more to fight for the championship' - Stellapublished at 16:55 BST

McLaren team boss Andrea Stella speaking to Sky Sports: "I think Lando was right when he said it's not going to be straightforward. The pace in Hungary was more convincing. The tyres today we're a little tricky, we saw at times it was difficult to turn them on but Lando is very good when the tyres are harder and when then slippery. Some teams were very good on softs we were better on hards, and sometimes the tyres just go off. We have to give a little bit more to fight for the championship."

All this talk of a Norris title charge, but he is 4th - Hamilton is joint 2nd and, if Ferrari could get their strategy together, is absolutely right there.

  10. 'I'm just happy to be standing on the podium' - Russellpublished at 16:45 BST

George Russell after finishing the Dutch Grand Prix in third place: "It was a difficult start for me, obviously losing the position. These two [Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli] were very quick at the beginning and Lando was just exceptionally fast towards the end of the race so it was tough to hold on in those old tyres. I'm happy to be standing here on the podium because It could have gone either way.

On dropping to P3: "Kimi was ahead of me anyway so he deserved to finish ahead, and of course when you're in the race you want to fight for every single position, but with the pace and with the new tyres, he would have overtaken anyway, so it was the right decision and I'm just happy to be standing on the podium; it's been a little while for me. It's been a strong weekend overall so I'll take the positives.

Ferrari are going to have to do better with strategy they are throwing too much away.

    Andy, Hastings

Time Ferrari put all their eggs in Hamilton's car. He's the only one that could catch Antonelli now - he should already be 15 to 20 points better off.

  12. 'We need to keep pushing' - Antonellipublished at 16:35 BST

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli after finishing the Dutch Grand Prix in second place: "It was a very intense race, I managed to get the lead, the I just didn't have the feeling with the car. It was sliding a lot, Lando passed me and I knew I had no chance after that. George was a great team player, happy for him to hold onto p3 as well."

On his starts: "Definitely done a tremendous job. It's improved a lot, today it paid off, really happy with that. Now as a team we need to find time, McLaren have done huge steps, we need to keep pushing."

  13. 'One of my better wins' - Norrispublished at 16:31 BST

    Lando NorrisImage source, Getty Images

Race winner Lando Norris speaking after taking the chequered flag for the final Dutch GP: "A tough race. Yesterday I said we needed to out on a bit of a show for everyone for the final race here. I made it tough for myself today but a good race, well fought. Probably one of my better wins, we had to fight for it. The pace was very strong and we managed things well. Over the moon, very happy. Nice to win the final race in Zandvoort.

"I knew I wasn't going to get many chances [to take the lead]. Every lap I spent behind [Antonelli] my odds were getting lower and lower. I saw [Hamilton] defending and I knew that was my moment. I did a couple of clicks of brake balance, I knew I was going to commit to braking and that move won me the race. I knew I only had one chance to make it happen and I made the most of it. Another win here. Very happy.

On if he can fight for the championship: "It sounds boring but one race at a time. There's no point thinking that far ahead, I need to concentrate on having a nice little break. Two great weekends but we need to reset and learn as much as we can. There's still plenty of things we can do better and need to do better if we want to fight for the championship. I'm pleased with the team and how much work everyone is doing and so happy I can deliver it for them and bring two wins in a row. But it's harder than I'd like and I want a bigger gap. We have to keep working hard, there's still plenty of races plenty of opportunity for everyone. Keep my head down, keep working and there'll come.

Race engineer: "Well done mate, p2 in the end, not a bad result. George held p3 as well."

Kimi Antonelli: "Yeah great job but on strategy, that was too risky. I think it was a bit too risky for both of us."

A decent job from Kimi Antonelli. I think there will be questions within the team around the strategy and the pressure coming from Lewis Hamilton.

  19. Team radio - McLaren to Norrispublished at 16:14 BST

Race engineer: "Well done mate, very well done."

Lando Norris: "Gorgeous. Well done, well executed, good strategy won me the race today, so thanks guys. Thanks everyone, keep pushing, it's not easy enough. Let's keep up with the upgrades, performance and keep pushing. Well done."

  20. Postpublished at 16:13 BST

After that virtual safety car on lap 55, Lando Norris never really looked in any danger of not winning this race.

He put in a methodical drive for the win. A very mature performance from the McLaren driver from start to finish.

And even more impressive when you consider he didn't start the race particularly well at all.
