Goalkeeper Jack Sims has returned to Southend United as a free agent after leaving Sutton United.

The 27-year-old was with the Shrimpers as a schoolboy but joined Blackpool at 16 and has gone on to play for Welling United and Braintree Town, who he helped to promotion through the National League South play-offs in 2024.

Sims played 67 National League games for Sutton over the past two seasons.

He has signed a one-year deal with the Essex club, with the club retaining an option for a second season.

Sutton United have signed midfielder Omar Mussa following his departure from fellow National League club Wealdstone.

The 25-year-old Burundi international made 34 appearances for the Stones last season and has also played for Torquay United, Dagenham & Redbridge, Weymouth, Dover Athletic and Walsall.

"As soon as I spoke with the management and heard about the plans and ambitions here, it felt like the right move for me," Mussa told the club website.

Sutton head coach, Chris Agutter, said: "This is the third time I've tried to sign Omar and I'm very happy that it's third time lucky."

Sutton United have signed forward Sam Folarin on a permanent deal following his departure from fellow National League side Hartlepool United.

The 25-year-old made 18 appearances for Pools last season, either side of a loan spell at National South side Chelmsford, where he scored twice.

Folarin told the club website, external: "I've been speaking to the Gaffer for quite some time now and it's good to finally get things moving.

"The project he was telling me about, trying to get back into the EFL and things like that, was really exciting to pursue and move forward with."

Folarin's signing follows the arrivals of Temi Babalola and Charlie Carter as head coach Chris Agutter looks to build a promotion-chasing squad.

"I'm so excited with the addition of Sam to the football Club, he has the potential to be one of the most effective and exciting attacking players in the National League," Agutter said.

"Any coach worth their salt will be able to help this young man be an electric centre-forward and winger option – he is direct, technically tidy, and outrageously fast – I mean lightning fast."

Sutton United have signed Will Nightingale after the defender turned down the chance to trigger a contract extension with Aldershot Town.

The 30-year-old centre-back, who has previously played in the Scottish Premiership for Ross County, featured 38 times for Aldershot in his solitary season with the Hampshire side.

Nightingale joined the Shots after being released by AFC Wimbledon, a club he first joined as a nine-year-old and where he went on to make more than 200 first-team appearances.

Sutton United midfielder Jake Taylor has been named club captain and signed a new deal to keep him at Gander Green Lane for another two years.

The 34-year-old takes the armband from defender Edon Pruti, who was skipper for the 2025-26 campaign, in which the U's finished 19th in the National League and avoided relegation by five points.

Taylor, who made 24 league appearances for Sutton after joining from Eastleigh in November 2025, said he was "incredibly proud" to be named captain.

"It's a responsibility I never take for granted, and I'm determined to do everything I can to help make this team as successful as possible," he told the club website., external

"We have high ambitions, and I'm excited to be leading the group both on and off the pitch."

Manager Chris Agutter said: "When Jake Taylor joined the football club, Sutton United were bottom of the table staring relegation in the face – his impact since joining us has been massive."

Sutton United have completed the signing of midfielder Charlie Carter from National League South side Dorking Wanderers.

The 29-year-old, who was born in Sutton, spent three years at Dorking and was captain for the past two seasons.

He also played National League football with Woking and Eastleigh, either side of a three-year spell at League Two Stevenage, where he was coached briefly by current Sutton boss Chris Agutter.

"For me, he'll be the best attacking midfield player in the league," Agutter told the club's website, external.

"I came up against him when he was at Dorking and know him from my time at Stevenage.

"He's a statement signing. As soon as we felt there was an opportunity of bringing Carts to the football club, we jumped on it and were really aggressive in trying to get him in the building, in a positive sense, in terms of being forceful and on the front foot."

Sutton United defender Alex Kirk has signed a one-year extension to his contract, with the option for a further year.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks at Arsenal and had loan spells at Ayr United and Bromley before joining Sutton in July 2024.

He made 21 appearances last season but a back injury sustained in February 2025 has seen him miss the entire 2025-26 campaign despite a brief return during pre-season.

Kirk, whose current deal was due to expire this summer, is aiming to return in time for the new season.
