Spurs have spent well over a QUARTER OF A BILLION POUNDS but can't score a goal! If that doesn't sum up how bonkers the modern game in England is, well, I don't know what does. Madness!

  2. 'The disappointment is Tottenham's first half'published at 19:36 BST 12 September

    FT: Tottenham 0-0 Everton

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Chelsea and Fulham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

The biggest disappointment is the way which Tottenham played in the first half. The intensity, the opportunities they created just without any end product, without shots on goal.

Second half was a little bit more muted. The subs definitely made a big difference, it was more proactive. Some decent shots on goal but just not able to get that goal. It was a more positive performance for Tottenham.

  3. 'A jigsaw with two pieces missing'published at 19:35 BST 12 September

    Jamie Redknapp

You've spent £350 million. One of football's most expensive jigsaw puzzles, and it's like you've opened up the box and there's two pieces missing.

It must be so frustrating for Roberto de Zerbi. You can see that he's trying different things. Bringing on subs, rotating players into different positions, but nothing's working and that must be so frustrating as a manager.

Sunderland captain and former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is the cover star of tonight's match programme.

The Swiss midfielder made 225 Premier League appearances for the Gunners between 2016 and 2023, before he joined Bayer Leverkusen.

He helped Xabi Alonso's side win a domestic league and cup double without tasting defeat, before returning to England last summer to join Sunderland.

Last term he made 34 Premier League appearances as Sunderland secured Europa League football in their first season back in the top flight.

Granit Xhaka was once the cornerstone of Arsenal's midfield.

Tonight, the Sunderland captain is desperate to get one over his old club.

Xhaka, who served the Gunners between 2016 and 2023, turns 34 in two weeks time yet he leads all Sunderland's players in the Premier League this season for touches (243), chances created (7), passes played into the box (26), fouls won (8) and successful passes (163).

Like a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, the long-serving Switzerland star is ageing well.

It finished goalless at Anfield earlier, goalless at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. We'll be having none of that nonsense at the Stadium of Light thank you very much.

No goals in six hours. That's the players. No point talking about the manager here. It's the players. They had chance after chance to pull the trigger or take a man on. None of them did. That's them, not the manager.

  8. 'Diabolical from Tottenham'published at 19:29 BST 12 September

    FT: Tottenham 0-0 Everton

    Jamie Redknapp
Former Tottenham midfielder on Sky Sports

I thought Tottenham would have problems this season, but not in the goal-scoring department. With players like Solanke, Marmoush, Maddison and even midfielders like Tonali, Maddison and Fernandes, you would think they would somehow be able to get a goal. To not score a Premier League goal in six hours of football is absolutely diabolical from Tottenham.

  9. Saturday night livepublished at 19:28 BST 12 September

    Sunderland v Arsenal (20:00 BST)

    Sunderland

A late Saturday night kick-off on Wearside.

A 47,000 packed house at a fever-pitch Stadium of Light.

Granit Xhaka leading his current team against the club he served for seven years.

Sunderland have not beaten Arsenal in the Premier League since 2009. Is that about to change?

  10. Don't go! One more game to comepublished at 19:26 BST 12 September

    Sunderland v Arsenal (20:00 BST)

Six games down, one more to go.

For the first time this season, an 8pm Saturday night Premier League kick-off.

Will Arsenal end the night three points clear at the top?

Roberto de Zerbi looks pretty fuming.

A poor game and on balance perhaps neither side deserved to win it.

It is the first time in Tottenham's history they have failed to score in the opening four games of the season.

You've got to admire the innovation at Spurs. They won the Europa league final without having a shot now they're trying to win the Premier league without scoring a goal.

    Alan Smith

I've been in this situation before as a player where you don't know where the next goal is coming from and the fans are getting on your back. You've just got to really believe in the idea that it is going to come. There's precious little signs of that today though.

    Back-to-back Spurs corners.

The first is punched away by Jordan Pickford, the second is knocked down then there's a foul in there.

Everton only have a couple of minutes to hold on.
