Cesar Peixoto's began his reign at Wolves with their first competitive win since March after a confident 3-0 victory over Port Vale.

Boro got the better of Wrexham as Will Lankshear marked his debut for the side by getting on the score sheet.

But there's no better debut than that of Josh Magennis' for Stevenage. He nodded in a last second winner for the Boro to give them a 2-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers and prevent penalties.

That about sums it up but there's still loads more drama to come tomorrow. Join us as the action kicks off again with QPR v Millwall at 14:00 BST.

Will Lankshear's first Middlesbrough goal following his summer move from Tottenham settled the tie and the Boro new boy told Sky Sports:

"It was a really good night. I thought the boys played really, really well.

"Everyone is really, really ambitious, everyone is really looking forward to this year and it's going to be an exciting one.

"You get the feeling of something really positive here so it's great to be involved in that."

Will Lankshear's goal is the difference between the two sides, as in the first half we were way too open for me, and we had to sort that out. And it was clear in the second half that they had.

There were no opportunities in the first half for Boro, and they had to try and stop the chances from Wrexham.

You have to give credit to Sol Brynn in net, he pulled off a few great saves in both halves.

Will Lankshear's debut goal is the difference and it's Middlesbrough who go through.

Wrexham had a good workout but maybe lacked a bit of sharpness up front.

The two sides were locked with a goal apiece and seem destined for the shoot-out but in the last seconds of the game, Magennis nodded in a winner for the Boro on his debut.

They look like they want to be here, whatever happens over the next three weeks all the players look like they want to be here, and play in the gold and black of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

No second-half goals but Wolves get the job done on Raul Jimenez's return.

There was hope for Port Vale after Mo Faal drew a penalty but his delivery from the spot wasn't enough to get past the cat-like Dan Bentley.

The save took the air out of the match but while the second half wasn't the spectacle of the first, Wolves fans would have been delighted by the official homecoming of Jimenez.

The first competitive win since March for the Wanderers, by the way. Not a bad way to kick-off the Cesar Peixoto era.

It's worth stating that Wrexham don't begin their Championship campaign until 17 August with a trip to Cardiff no less.

With such a gap between that game and this, it's little surprise that Phil Parkinson said beforehand that he was treating this one as part of the pre-season build-up.

The final switch of the evening for Wrexham sees Davis Keillor-Dunn take the place of Nathan Broadhead.
