  1. What does Nyoni offer that Gravenberch can't?published at 16:11 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

    Julien Laurens
French football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

He is a more defensive-minded midfielder anyway. Gravenberch was never a number six, we've said that before. It worked under [Arne] Slot at a time when you still had the momentum from Jurgen Klopp, but there is clearly something missing this season and last season; it is nothing new.

I think Nyoni brings you a bit of that, sitting more than what Gravenberch would, and certainly more naturally. With [Alexis] Mac Allister next to him, and Florian Wirtz slightly higher up the pitch, to have somebody like him - whether he's ready or not - at least the profile is the right profile.

For Iraola to give Trey Nyoni his first time in the Premier League for a game like this, with how important this game is, it's clearly because there was something in midfield not working before and he thinks Nyoni is a way of fixing that issue.

  2. 'Arsenal should put Nyoni under as much pressure as possible'published at 16:09 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Man City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

If I was a part of that Arsenal midfield, I would be putting Nyoni under as much pressure as humanly possible.

I'm sure he is a very good player and deserving of the opportunity, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be a comfortable game for him. It's a great test. It's a great challenge.

I like the fact that Iraola has made that decision to put Nyoni in because you can't just wait behind people forever, hoping for an opportunity. The biggest part of the back you can have is when they put you in instead of somebody. That is a huge, huge boost.

A big chance for Trey Nyoni today.

You'd have to think he's got a real chance in nailing down a spot in that Liverpool midfield if he puts in a performance here.

I much prefer Myles Lewis-Skelly at the base of midfield, it frees up Rice and Arsenal seem to play better than they do with Bruno in the team. We will see but I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal lose.

  5. 'Szoboszlai was desperate to start'published at 16:03 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola, speaking to Sky Sports on what we will learn from his team today: "A big game. We have a schedule where is not time for a lot, each two or three days you prepare a game quickly and today is a big one definitely. We have to be at our very best but we are coming from three wins from home. We needed these wins and we want to finish with a big win."

On Trey Nyoni's first Premier League start: "The thinking is that he is playing very well, we trust him. He has good control on the ball, he understands the game well, without the ball he is smart to deal with all the complications. He is really good on those things. We have to consider we have very good subs for the second half. It gives us good options, but we definitely trust Trey to do well."

On Dominik Szoboszlai's return to the bench: "He was desperate to start. After the Brentford game we probably went too early. We have been a bit more cautious and he will have to go through the process today he probably plays in the second half."

On what he wants from Anfield: "What they give us every time. We can use this advantage in a proper way."

For the sake of the Premier League, we need a Liverpool win. City are a dead man walking, and Arsenal aren't the easiest to watch, they look even less creative than last year. Liverpool 2-1.

  9. 'Nyoni deserves this opportunity'published at 15:54 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's probably going to surprise a lot [of people] but I think the Anfield fans are thinking it's a good opportunity for him and he's deserved that opportunity.

It's going to be difficult for him because you're going up against one of the best midfielders in Europe right now, but I think what we've seen from Iraola is that he trusts these young players, and he believes that no occasion is too big for them. I'm really excited to see how he performs today.

I think Liverpool are clicking. From quite early, you could see what Iraola was trying to do and I still don't think this is a squad that fits exactly what he wants to do. I think the midfield needs to be proves in terms of quality in terms of quality.

I do think Liverpool are getting better. There is still room for improvement but they are going in the right direction.

Don’t see Arsenal winning today. They just haven’t got the firepower up front. The fact that Haaland has score more goals than their front four combined says a lot.

  12. 'You want to come to Anfield and get it done'published at 15:47 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports on what it will take to end the wait for a Premier League win at Anfield: "We have been very close but moments decide those games and you have to be really precise in those moments to get the victory from here. Today has to be the day."

On if he expects a different challenge against Andoni Iraola's Liverpool: "Every manager has a different solution and approach. Andoni's is very clear. We expect a different game today. This is a team that is very vertical, they have the capacity to generate chaos from almost every situation."

On Christos Tzolis starting after a month out: "We had some other issues after Tuesday. We need to be smart how we manage minutes today. The conditions and the context forced me to make some decisions."

On how big an opportunity today is: "This is the kind of opportunity, challenge, mission that you want to come to Anfield and get it done."

Arsenal defence and mid are brilliant it's just our attacks not good enough Gyokeres has to do better he hasn't got a Premier League goal yet this season but I think we'll get the job done.

  15. Arsenal solid at the backpublished at 15:39 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

    Matt Jones
    BBC Sport journalist

Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhaes have formed a solid partnership in defence, with Arsenal showing familiar defensive bite over their last two Premier League games to keep two clean sheets.

Aside from a ropey display on the road at Brighton, where they lost 3-0, the Gunners have once again been the standard-setters at the back.

They have the best defensive record in the division for goals conceded, while their underlying numbers are also the most impressive in the league after eight games.

  16. Screamer alertpublished at 15:37 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

Who remembers this screamer from Dominik Szoboszlai in this game last season?

The Hungarian stepped up in the 83rd minute and smashed a free-kick into the top corner, leaving David Raya with no chance.

  17. 'Arteta needs to use his anger to make sure players are ready'published at 15:35 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

    Julien Laurens
French football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think the players or the boys got an absolute hairdryer treatment after the game at Fleetwood.

I think they would have moved on quite quickly after that defeat, for Arsenal, if there was a game to lose, it is the one against Fleetwood, not this one today.

I think the best thing for Arteta to do is use the anger he had against everyone from what happened on Tuesday night to make sure they are ready for today.

  18. Tzolis boost for Arsenalpublished at 15:32 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport Arsenal reporter

It's great timing for Arsenal that Christos Tzolis is back from his hamstring injury as the Gunners are currently light in options in the wide area.

Tzolis started the season very well and Arteta will be hoping that he can get the Gunners' attack firing.

  19. Who wins the midfield battle?published at 15:30 GMT

    Liverpool v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

I think the midfield battle is really interesting today.

Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Bruno Guimaraes might fancy it against Trey Nyoni, Alexis Mac Allister and Florian Wirtz.

Three weeks ago I'd have been very worried about this match, but Liverpool are definitely improving under Iraola in terms of style and intensity. If we can avoid being outfought in midfield then a win is very possible.
