    Rotherham 0-4 West Brom

Rotherham and West Brom are both going through the motions here with the result wrapped up still with around 10 minutes remaining.

No injuries here for either side you would hope as they look forward to long and enduring campaigns in their respective divisions.

  2. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 19:11 BST 8 August

    Colchester 0-1 Southampton

Cameron Archer gets caught by Colchester substitute Paul Digby battling for the ball in the box and puts his hand up for a penalty call that never comes.

His fellow Saints team-mates don't seem too fussed though.

For Duane (18.56). You say every saints fan is calling for a striker… we got him.. his name is LARIN!

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:08 BST 8 August

    Colchester 0-1 Southampton

Jake Leake takes Ellis Iandolo's place and the Colchester substitute almost makes an immediate impact as he gets into a great position to go for goal.

He gets the touch but can't control it to see it whiz out of play.

Colchester have put in such a valiant effort this entire game and it's technically not over yet. Just one goal in it, albeit for a dominant high-class opponent.

  5. Postpublished at 19:06 BST 8 August

    Cheltenham 1-3 Charlton

Cheltenham have improved massively in the second half and posed Charlton keeper Will Mannion some real problems after the break.

Moments earlier, Mannion had to be alert to get down low to his right to prevent the scoreline becoming 3-2.

The fire of that fightback looks like it has been extinguished somewhat with 10 minutes to go.

  6. 'A fantastic following'published at 19:05 BST 8 August

    Rotherham 0-4 West Brom

    Steve Hermon
    BBC Radio WM commentator

The attendance today is 4,805 with 2,493 of those being Albion fans. That is a fantastic following for a season opener.

It feels like a pre-season friendly - but they are here for it!

  7. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 19:04 BST 8 August

    Colchester 0-1 Southampton

Cameron Archer and Finn Azaz are on to see this game to it's end.

Lewis Dobbin's debut is over as he heads to cool down with Leo Scienza.

Paul Digby replaces Rob Hunt for Colchester.

  8. 'A really good striker's goal'published at 19:03 BST 8 August

    Colchester 0-1 Southampton

    Jo Tessem
Ex-Southampton midfielder on BBC Radio Solent

Cyle Larin keeps his position and stays calm and kind of lets the ball just hit him and he gets his head on it.

    It's a good goal it's a really good striker's goal.

Unfortunately for Colchester, the quality of the substitutions has changed the game. No disrespect to the Colchester players who came on.

    Rotherham 0-4 West Brom

With 20 minutes remaining, some Rotherham fans have seen enough and are heading to the exits.

A night on the town in Rotherham awaits, perhaps...

  11. 'The defending has been embarrassing'published at 18:59 BST 8 August

    Rotherham 0-4 West Brom

    Ronnie Moore
Ex-Rotherham manager on BBC Radio Sheffield

There have been points in this game were we have looked competitive, and some positive signs.

However, the defending. Well, that has been embarrassing!

  12. goal

GOAL: Colchester 0-1 Southamptonpublished at 18:58 BST 8 August

    Cyle Larin (72 mins)

    And there it is.

Ryan Manning whips in a stunning ball that bounces off the grass and into the path of Cyle Larin to nod into the net.

You wanted a striker Duane [18:56], looks like Larin is here to prove he's the man.

  13. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 18:58 BST 8 August

    Rotherham 0-4 West Brom

Big penalty appeal for West Brom.

Mikey Johnston, moments after coming on, drives towards the box and is taken out by a slide tackle but the referee claims the foul was just outside the area and gives a free-kick.

It looked incredibly tight. The resulting free-kick comes back to Alex Mowatt who skews his effort high and wide.

I'll say what every Saints fan has been saying year after year. We need to buy a striker!!!

  15. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 18:56 BST 8 August

    Colchester 0-0 Southampton

U's striker Bradley Ihionvien's hamstring looks okay but he's done his bit for the day.

He's withdrawn with Oscar Thorn as Milton Oni entering the fray.

On-loan Wolves youngster Leon Chiwome is also on for debut and will be tasked with freshening up the Colchester attack that seems to have dried up in this second half.

  16. 'You can't make it easy for Championship opposition'published at 18:54 BST 8 August

    Colchester 0-0 Southampton

    Angus Paterson
    BBC Essex commentator

Harry Anderson has continued to apply himself, working hard in the press.

You can't make it easy for Championship opposition, you can't show them much respect. You've got to make it difficult and that is just what Colchester United have tried to do. Pretty successfully in the first half, but Southampton have worked a little bit harder in this second to sustain pressure and keep the ball.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:53 BST 8 August

    Rotherham 0-4 West Brom

I take that back - Jimmy-Jay Morgan will not be hunting a hat-trick at all.

Moments after claiming his second of the game, he is replaced by Mikey Johnston with 25 minutes left.

  18. 'West Brom's efficient football'published at 18:50 BST 8 August

    Rotherham 0-4 West Brom

    Lee Camp
Former West Bromwich Albion and Rotherham goalkeeper on BBC Radio WM

I feel like a broken record but this is just professionalism, and brilliant technical work by finding the spare man on the edge of the box.

This is efficient football from West Brom, and Jimmy-Jay Morgan has been great!

  19. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 18:50 BST 8 August

    Colchester 0-0 Southampton

Tonda Eckert on the touchlineImage source, Shutterstock

Saints boss Tonda Eckert has turned to his stacked bench to try and find his winner.

Canada international Cyle Larin and Cameron Bragg are introduced.

Off go Tom Fellows and Ben Brereton Diaz.

  20. goal

GOAL: Rotherham 0-4 West Brompublished at 18:49 BST 8 August

    Jimmy-Jay Morgan (61 mins)

The striker's debut is getting better and better!

Callum Styles stands the ball up and Jimmy-Jay Morgan is just hungrier at the back post, heading the ball back from where it came into the far corner, to give Albion a four-goal cushion the gulf in class probably deserves.

The Baggies fans behind the goal are singing their new striker's name with gusto right now. Morgan will be hunting a hat-trick now.
