Arsenal are knocking on the door. Lynn Wilms makes a mess of Ona Batlle's cross, allowing the ball to bounce through her legs and straight to Caitlin Foord whose strike is wide.

And then, a minute later, Arsenal come again as Georgia Stanway makes a late run into the box and has a shot parried away at the near post.

That would have been a top-class team goal if Grace Geyoro had put that away.

Danielle van de Donk had dived to the floor to get a header on Kadidiatou Diani's delivery, nodding it over to Alexia Putellas who then laid it off quickly for Geyoro.

But the French midfielder can't keep her shot down and it poses no problems for Ayaka Yamashita.

Quietly hoping London City Lionesses beat City today. This is coming from a Chelsea fan by the way.

Got to be a win for Manchester City for me.

Ooooh, first proper chance at the Emirates as Caitlin Foord drives into the box from the left.

She plays a slick give-and-go with Alessia Russo, but once she gets the ball back Foord stumbles a little and her shot is straight at the keeper.

Spanish flair in full flow then! What a lovely one-two between Jana Fernandez and Alexia Putellas that was.

What a move from Jana Fernandez.

Snatches the ball in the middle of the park, plays it into Alexia Putellas and then she just keeps running. Putellas lays it off for her again, but her drilled strike drifts just wide of the left post.

A great run forward by Villa striker Amalie Vangsgaard who breezes past Leah Williamson. But there's nobody in the middle to tap in her pull-back.

It's been a really good start so far!

Lots of fans were excited to see Mary Earps get her first WSL appearance for London City but it's a big chance for Izzy Goodwin too.

She's had a few nice touches but no real chances yet. It's an intense encounter early on.

Good spell on the ball from Aston Villa, taking the sting out of Arsenal's start with some sharp passing in midfield.

It's been a really entertaining start.

Manchester City are starting to build those patterns of play which they couldn't do when London City were pressing them all over.

When London City Lionesses faced Liverpool last weekend it was just the third time a team has named seven non-English starters from the same nation for a WSL game - after Bristol City in 2015 and Yeovil Town in 2017-18 (both seven Welsh players).

Six Spanish players in London City's starting 11, nice to see talented players in WSL but worried about future England players.

All Arsenal, as you'd expect. Georgia Stanway gets into a bit of space but overhits a cross from the left. Goal kick.

Nice, bright start from Arsenal as the ball is switched to full-back Ona Batlle on the right but she chooses to twist and turn a bit rather than crossing first time and the chance goes.

It's great to say Lauren Hemp back in form.

I think having the quality of Khadija Shaw, she has so many chances and that's because of the quality around her.

She's constantly getting chances created for her and the amount of goals she does score.

I think we're going to get goals today.

Almost a very early goal for London City Lionesses, who have started on the front foot.

Rebecca Knaack almost slides the ball into her own goal, while Alexia Putellas came close to pouncing at the back post.

I think London City will certainly be challenging. Their aim is Champions League football.

Putellas doesn't just bring quality on the pitch, she brings mentality.

When you're bringing in so many new players it just takes time to gel. We are seeing it every game that they're getting better and better.

London City v Man City (12:00 GMT)

When Alexia Putellas steps onto the pitch today it will be the first time a current holder of the Ballon d'Or has played in the WSL.

The Spain midfielder won the prize - awarded to the best player in the world - for a record-equalling third time on Monday.

That was after she captained Barcelona to Champions League glory as part of a quadruple in 2025-26 before joining London City in July.
