Re: Toby @ 12:59 - LCL are the Lionesses cos they originated from the Millwall women's side. For me, being just "London City" would sound weirder somehow.

    Ant, Manchester

I have absolutely no problem with LCL spending money. We want investment into the WSL to continue growth. I do worry that they are squeezing out young English players though with at least one instance this season of no English players in their starting lineup.

It has to be said, but the drop off for Arsenal in the WSL this season is staggering. Too many changes over recent seasons?

    Dal

Sorry but Renee has to go. She still doesn’t know her best XI, how does she expect to build any momentum when she changes 3-5 players every match and plays people out of position constantly? Another wasted season.

Still Arsenal push for a leveller. Caitlin Foord's cross flies just over the head of substitute Emily Fox at the back post.

And there it is. The longer it went on, the more London City Lionesses missed their chances, you feared this would happen.

That's the difference. Khadija Shaw is world-class.

    That's the difference.

London City have had all these opportunities and not been able to take them. It falls to Khadija Shaw and she takes it.

She rounds the goalkeeper and takes the time before she shoots, sees where the space is and finds the goal.

    A brilliant goal from Shaw.

All those London City chances, but it's Manchester City who score first!

And who else?! Khadija Shaw is played through by Lauren Hemp and she rounds Mary Earps before slamming the ball into the roof of the net.

    The Shaw-Hemp combo strikes again!

Alexia Putellas feeds in Isobel Goodwin and her strike almost makes it through the legs of Ayaka Yamashita before the Manchester City goalkeeper recovers and makes the save.

Again, how does it not go in?!

The opportunity, she's just five yards out and the header is just slightly behind her.

Yet another chance for London City.

Russo is at the heart of everything for Arsenal currently. Her inventive backheel frees up Emily Fox whose shot is blocked behind by Anna Patten.

  16. CLOSE!published at 13:10 GMT

    London City 0-0 Man City

The ball is nodded back across the face of goal and Grace Geyoro dives at it, trying to prod a header into the back of the net.

It's an awkward height and angle, and Geyora can't get enough power on it to beat Ayaka Yamashita.

Ooof! So close! Great, zippy passes from Arsenal and Alessia Russo almost plays in Caitlin Foord, but Foord can't get a toe onto the ball, sliding forward, and Russo's pass skids straight to the Villa keeper.
