Saim Ayub is probably the most consistent opener I've ever seen - at getting out early, that is!

I'm surprised that England have not tried to bounce Babar Azam yet. We have seen him face difficulties against the short ball in the not too distant past.

Saad Baig gets himself off the mark with deft use of soft hands as he guides Gus Atkinson through the vacant third region for four.

    Nicely done.

That boundary just releases a modicum of the pressure building on Pakistan.

A couple of balls later and Saad is confident enough to crisply drive one a fraction too full and floaty from Atkinson through the covers for four.

  4. Pak 34-2published at 9 overs

"Wow!" shouts Harry Brook at first slip as Will Jacks manages to fizz one past the bat of Babar Azam at the start of his second over.

A couple of balls later and Babar nudges a single to get off strike.

The left-handed Saad Baig is taking his time, playing patiently, and keeps out the rest of the over.

Saad Baig comes into this tri-series off the back of a decent run of form for PCB Greens in the National Champions Cup.

From four innings the 19-year-old managed 177 runs at better than a run-a-ball with a fifty in the final.

He plays for the Karachi Kings in the PSL where he has one fifty from his first 14 games.

  6. Pak 33-2published at 8 overs

Fans still coming into the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in their dribs and drabs.

Saad Baig gets his first look at Gus Atkinson and content to see off five dots.

The young Pakistan wicketkeeper made 39 in his first innings in international cricket against Sri Lanka a couple of days ago.

Sonny Baker has struggled to find a consistent line and length so far this morning, and has persisted with bowling short - eventually getting the reward of Saim Ayub's wicket.

Solid start from Will Jacks, who finds a little bit of drift.

Just a single to Babar Azam off the over.

England will be very grateful for those two early wickets because it looks like a good pitch. But they have been gifted wickets which puts them above in the game.

It's a chance for England to put pressure on the young Saad Baig.

  10. Pak 31-2published at 6 overs

Wicketkeeper Saad Baig, playing in his second ODI, is the new batter for Pakistan.

    Will Jacks is limbering up.

What was that shot? After a little bit of fortune for Saim Ayub the ball before he tries to pull it around the corner and follows it through to fine leg.

It's not a great shot. Another weak dismissal.

England have another early wicket. Both openers are back in the dressing room for Pakistan.

It's short again from Sonny Baker and Saim Ayub takes on the hook shot.

However, the Pakistan batter does not make clean contact and ends up sending it high into the hazy sky

Sam Curran has to wait and age but manages to hang on.

A bit soft, but England are delighted.

Sonny Baker is tighter with his first couple of deliveries in his third over of the day before Babar Azam dabs him into the pitch down to third for a single.

Harry Brook is stationed at mid-off offering a word or two in Baker's here.

Baker's fourth delivery climbs off the pitch and is edged by Saim Ayub, but it's way wide of the diving Jodran Cox

Saim played that late but Baker will feel he is in the game.

A wayward start for Sonny Baker in his first two overs. Just one delivery of his first 12 was challenging the stumps.

  16. Pak 25-1published at 5 overs

Saim Ayub has faced only a handful of deliveries. It's largely been the Babar show.

Saim manages to work it out to deep cover where England scramble to make sure it does not cross the boundary.

Atkinson hits Babar on the pad with his penultimate delivery, but contains his appeal. Way too high.

A little bit of a tame start for Pakistan but over the last two overs they have started to get things going.

Those boundaries have given them a bit of a boost.

  18. Pak 22-1published at 4 overs

Shot of the day so far from Babar Azam, who is oozing class here.

Slightly overpitched from Sonny Baker and the Pakistan right-hander unfurls a sublime cover drive for four.

Later in the over Baker bowls a bit straight and Babar shuffles across his crease and deftly flicks it off his hip for another.

Today was the 74th time a wicket has fallen on the first ball of an ODI, and the fourth time this year. Previous instances this year:

    • Pakistan v Australia - Lahore, 2 June
    • Netherlands v Nepal - Utrecht, 29 July
    • South Africa v Australia - Johannesburg, 27 September

Not much in this pitch for the bowlers so far, by the looks.

Gus Atkinson strays on to the pads of Babar Azam's pads and he effortlessly flicks it fine for four.
