  1. Bears skipper Barnard on 'very special' title winpublished at 16:55 BST 26 September

Warks beat Leics win by an innings & 79 runs

    Ed BarnardImage source, Getty Images

Warwickshire captain Ed Barnard said it was "incredible feeling" to win the County Championship after the Bears secured the title earlier this afternoon with an innings win over Leicestershire.

"The cricket we have played all season but especially in the last six weeks has been amazing and it has been pretty special to be part of," he said.

"It's been very special to see it all come together in the last six weeks. You don't plan to have the perfect game but we have had two or three of them and it's been really special."

Barnard said it had been a collective effort but that it was right that the Bears' bowling attack would take many of the plaudits.

"Ethan, Woakesey and Olly have been brilliant and Manny has come in and given us just what we need. We have played on a lot of bowler-friendly pitches this year and scored the runs we needed," he said.

"Ethan has been incredible. We knew the quality he had when he signed but he has gone up four levels, never mind one level. He works as hard as anybody... and he is the nicest man in county cricket as well. The whole squad has delivered and I am so proud of them."

    Lancs 221-4 v Durham 493

    Martin Emmerson

Matty Potts is not playing in this match but it looks like he is going to finish the season as the leading wicket-taker in Division Two with 60 dismissals.

He had some strapping on his knee last week during the game with Worcestershire so has not been risked at Old Trafford - he is on 12th man duties though.

Ryan Higgins of Middlesex, Ben Aitchison of Derbyshire and Ben Sanderson of Northants all ended up with 58 wickets each.

Potts should be a shoe-in for the Championship team of the season, along with batsman David Bedingham who returned to South Africa a few weeks ago after scoring 1,029 runs. He has had another two centuries there in the last two weeks as well!

And Durham opener Ben McKinney, who may well bat again tomorrow, is now on 1,044 runs. At 21 he is the youngest Durham player to reach the milestone of 1,000 runs in a season.

Gary Pratt remains the youngest to 1,000 FC runs for the club though. He did that in 2003, but also played against Durham University and India A that season, whereas McKinney's runs have been against county opposition only.

Congratulations to Sussex. Not just in this game but fighting against the odds. Who knows they might have even been fighting for a tilt at the title if things had been different. They thoroughly outplayed Hampshire, they bowled well, they batted well and they look a good all-round side. Hampshire once again just never found a way.

Matty Hurst steers a ball from Brydon Carse through the covers.

It doesn't 'have the legs' to reach the rope, but three runs take Lancashire's wicket-keeper to his first Championship 50 of the season from 134 balls.

The South African becomes Ben Kellaway's second lbw victim.

There are handshakes from all the Glamorgan players as Elgar makes his way off the field and a standing ovation from all supporters inside the ground.

A brilliant servant announces his retirement with a trademark, nuggety century.

  9. Birthday boy Bairstow sees Yorks homepublished at 16:43 BST 26 September

What seemed a straightforward chase after a 54-run opening stand turned out to be anything but as Notts fought back valiantly with the ball and Yorkshire’s batting jitters resurfaced once again.

But Jonny Bairstow got the job done on his 37th birthday to register a third successive Championship win for Yorkshire for the first time since their title-winning season of 2015.

They cement a fine fifth-place finish in Division One.

For Nottinghamshire it was a case of what might have been.

The defending champions looked well set to win back-to-back titles heading into the final four games of the season, but ran out of steam.

One win in September and back-to-back defeats sees them slip down below Sussex into fourth place.

  12. Leicestershire no longer English cricket's 'joke'published at 16:39 BST 26 September

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Leicester commentator

It's hard to review Leicestershire's season, because annoyingly, we don't know where they will finish.

They are bullish about an appeal into a pitch probe that saw them deducted 27 points, but who knows what their chances are.

As head coach Alfonso Thomas told me, though, they have shown, in their first season back in Division One for 23 years, that they can go "toe-to-toe with the best".

There have been really memorable moments, a win against Yorkshire in particular, a draw at The Oval too - and they lost just two of their last six games to the eventual top two.

They looked like the title-winning Foxes towards the end of the campaign, and, if Essex's game finishes the way we expect it will, they would have stayed up if they hadn't got the deduction.

But fundamentally, regardless of appeals, they started too slowly, and a run of four straight losses is what has cost them. The Foxes have to build a more consistent and more accurate bowling attack, that keeps the pressure up, and their batting line-up needs to fire.

But five years ago Leicestershire were English cricket's joke, the perennial basement dwellers. Now, they are a force again in English cricket. That, really, is the main achievement - whether or not they start in Division One or Two next year.

    Notts v Yorks 159-9 - target 158

Jack White survives Liam Patterson-White's final two balls.

Jonny Bairstow will look to finish it here with just five needed, but so nearly picks out the fielder at third man to Mohammad Ali's first ball.

He slashes at the next two and misses both.

Ali continues to go a little wider and Bairstow steps across and carves it over extra cover boundary for six! What a way to win it.

It would be fitting if two homegrown players were there at the end for Kent - even if one of them, Sam Northeast, did spend a few seasons away from the St Lawrence Ground.

Daniel Bell-Drummond drives Che Simmons for four and edges another boundary to third man from the next delivery.

    Just 41 needed now.

    Hampshire 128 & 238 v Sussex 244 & 319-9 dec

Tom Price takes a five-wicket haul to wrap up the Hampshire innings and the win for Sussex.

There had been quite a few unsuccessful lbw appeals from the bowling side before this successful one as Price traps last man Kyle Abbott in front of the stumps.

Hampshire restored some pride with that second innings after falling to 3-4 early on. They could have gone under but they battled on well to post 238 and at least take the game into the closing stages of day three.

The win takes Sussex into second place as-it-stands but they might drop down depending on the outcome of the matches involving the teams around them.

    Unbelievable!

Ben Cliff has to survive six balls from Liam Patterson-White but he lasts just four.

LPW gives it a little rip and takes the edge and Mitch Hay does the rest behind the stumps.

The left armer has four wickets and Hay has equalled a Notts record of seven dismissals in an innings.

Jack White is last man with five needed. What a finale.

A lot of Yorkshire's hopes now rest on the broad shoulders of Jonny Bairstow.

He steps up with a superb pull into the legside off Mohammad Ali which finds the gap and runs for four.

Not the time to bowl a full toss but Ali does just that and Bairstow finds the gap again, backward of square, for a priceless second boundary.

The birthday boy then pulls the next ball down to long leg for a six! Almost white-ball mode. What an over from the skipper.

    Yorkshire need just five more.
