We asked you to name the Championship player of the season. Here are a couple of popular suggestions

Ethan Bamber must be a contender for player of the season. Northants Vasconcelos an outsider

    David, Derbyshire

Player of the year is Craig Overton and I don't even think it's particularly close. Some players, especially Warwickshire players, have had great seasons but he has been superb with both bat and ball. He's also contributed in all formats too, including the best T20 innings of the summer.

    Scott, Torquay (currently Orlando)

Ethan Bamber for player of the season - taking wickets is the hardest part of the game.

    Iain, Tonbridge

Player of the season has to be Craig Overton. More than 50 wickets, 700+ runs and played every match apart from one when his partner gave birth the night before! Stellar Blast campaign too, including a miracle knock in QF at Headingley. Unlucky not to win the title (congratulations Warwickshire).

    Tom, North Somerset

    Somerset 635-8 v Surrey 422

Tom Abell and Migael Pretorious bring up a century stand for the ninth wicket.

The pitch is very good to bat on but has offered turn which will have Jack Leach and Archie Vaughan interested tomorrow.

Surrey have got everyone posted on the boundary as the home side now lead by 213 runs.

  9. Postpublished at 17:15 BST 26 September

    Glamorgan 505 v Essex 129 & 239-3 – Essex trail by 137

Essex pair Matt Critchley and Charlie Allison are only dealing in fours at present with the dot balls being broken up with regular strokes to the boundary rope.

They have added 35 from 40 balls since coming together when Dean Elgar said his goodbyes with an excellent century.

  10. 250 runs

250 for Tom Abellpublished at 17:11 BST 26 September

    Somerset 624-8 v Surrey 422

This is like shooting fish in a barrel for Somerset.

Tom Abell gets to 250 not out - 28 fours and three sixes.

The home side lead by 202 runs.

    Breaking

    Kent 353 & 120-2 v Gloucestershire 229 & 241

Sam Northeast finishes it in style, driving Ollie Price to the cover boundary as Kent complete their eighth win of the season - those eight wins coming in 11 games after a slow start to the campaign.

Promotion was confirmed earlier in the day when rivals Northants lost to Middlesex at Lord's and Kent were left a target of 118 after Matt Milnes' 5-33 helped bowl Gloucestershire out for 241.

Kamran Dhairwal showed plenty of promise in making 66 for the visitors, who finish bottom of Division Two after a 10th defeat.

Zak Crawley made 44 off 41 balls to launch the chase and Northeast, who finished on 49 not out, and Daniel Bell-Drummond saw them home with an unbroken stand of 56.

So pleased for Kent. As a seasoned Kent supporter, early in the season I did not see this happening - quite a turnaround. Fingers crossed for 2027!

It’s easy to get a little bit down when you see what’s happened with the red-ball game but it's not the end of the world.

This club [Hampshire] is not defined by its first team playing in the first or second division, this club is bigger and better than that.

The move to this ground has put Hampshire in a different league as to where it stands in the domestic game.

He's had to wait to the final game of the season - but there is Josh Bohannon's first Championship century of 2026.

He glances Kasey Aldridge fine for four to reach three figures off 217 balls and swishes his bat in the air to mark his delight.

Just watched end of Notts Yorks match, proving yet again you can't beat proper 4 day cricket. Bring on 2027! Winter well everybody

    Buzz, SW France

Great win for Yorkshire. Ambition must be to win the Championship next season. If Root and Brook had contributed anything in the games they played, added to a bit more luck in a couple of tight games this year, we could have been looking at this year's winners.

  20. Foxes have had to overcome a lot of challenges - Thomaspublished at 16:56 BST 26 September

Warks beat Leics by an innings & 79 runs

Leicestershire head coach Alfonso Thomas said his side had not challenged the opposition consistently enough this season but had shown they are capable of matching the biggest clubs in the division.

"We are obviously disappointed that we didn't give a good account of ourselves again. At times this season we have shown it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog," he said.

"The lads have had to overcome a lot of challenges. But you want to start a County Championship season well, as we did last season in Division Two, otherwise you are playing catch up and we had to play catch up in a very good division."

The Foxes are relegated as it stands but could get a reprieve pending the outcome of their appeal against a points deduction for breaching pitch regulations in their win over Glamorgan in August.

Thomas added: "At times we have given a very good account of ourselves and there are a lot of positives but there will be a time for reflection at some point and we will have a look and see whether we are in Division One or Two next year and see where we can take it from there."
