Have your say on England men this summer

Very nice from Tom Banton. On this occasion, the ball slid across, and it was probably a short and wide delivery. A good start to Banton's innings.

  3. Eng 15-0published at 2 overs

    Target 322

Tom Banton adds his second boundary as Dilshan Madushanka drifts far too wide with his left-arm seam. Madushanka straightens up so Banton flicks him in the opposite direction.

It's a good start from the England opener.

This is a great place to bat. You have to be really brave here.

Sam is remarkably confident. I think it's going to be a good game.

Warning: This post contains discussion of suicide and information some readers may find distressing

As we wait for the players to return, I'd also recommend taking a few minutes to read this interview with Amanda Thorpe and Debbie Beard.

Debbie lost her husband just over a year ago. Matt Beard, the former Liverpool Women manager, died in hospital on 20 September 2025. He is believed to have taken his own life, though an inquest is yet to conclude.

Amanda's husband Graham, the former England and Surrey cricketer, took his own life in 2024. He had "spiralled into depression" after losing his job as a batting coach in 2022.

The two women, who had never met before, came together at an event launched by the Prince of Wales and the Royal Foundation to urge sport at every level to make suicide prevention part of its culture through a new nationwide toolkit.

Kusal Mendis was put down by Gus Atkinson while on 17 and took full advantage.

The Sri Lanka skipper hit 121 off 100 balls from number three, with 14 fours and three sixes.

You can watch some of his best shots above.

  15. How's stat?!published at 16:17 BST 24 September

Jamie Overton was unlucky to go wicketless across his spell today - he either found the edge or forced a play and miss with 17 of his deliveries, the most of any England bowler.

It has dried up, hasn't it? England have bowled well and they have bowled with a plan.

  17. SL 321-6published at 50 overs

Three more runs off the remainder of the over, two off the bat and a leg bye.

A decent total for Sri Lanka, but this is a good pitch and England likely still fancy their chances, even if this would be a record chase against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile Jamie Overton finishes with figures of 0-63.

  18. SL 318-6published at 49.2 overs

    Nutmeg fielding!

Dunith Wellalage smacks Jamie Overton down the ground and Will Jacks gives chase.

Haring towards the boundary, Jacks reaches forward and scoops the ball through his legs as he thunders over the rope.

A second fielder recovers and Sri Lanka can only run two.

Prior to that, Sachindu Colombage clipped the tips of Jos Buttler's fingers knocking the ball down the leg side - I suppose you might call that a drop.

  19. SL 315-6published at 49 overs

A decent final over for Jofra Archer, conceding just four singles and taking a wicket.

He finishes with figures of 1-68.

Let's see what Dunith Wellalage and new batter Sachindu Colombage can do in the final over - Jamie Overton will bowl it.

Glad Sri Lanka are batting well. We'll learn more about England chasing a decent target than a small one.
