Sachindu Colombage in total control rather than hoping for the best and swinging to wherever.

  2. SL 126-6published at 29 overs

Rehan Ahmed returns as England make changes at both ends.

Sachindu Colombage sweeps him hard through mid-wicket for a third boundary.

Sachindu Colombage on his heels and he is running on a treadmill.

That is what it looked like. Those previous runs he got, it took him an age to get across.

He needs to get his skates on.

  4. SL 120-6published at 28 overs

    Consecutive fours for the debutant!

Sachindu Colombage lifts the returning Jofra Archer to the square boundary and then skews a shot through the slip cordon area off an attempted yorker.

Is Will Jacks slowly becoming the most important player in this side? Always scores crucial runs when we need them, and his bowling has come on so far from the part-timer he came into the side as.

  6. SL 111-6published at 27 overs

A bit of a blot of Will Jacks' copy book as he sends consecutive wides down the leg side.

Both go for two extra runs, with the ball coming off Jos Buttler's gloves.

  7. Postpublished at 18:59 BST 22 September

Debutant Sachindu Colombage has arrived at the crease with the mission of rescuing Sri Lanka with the bat. He certainly did his bit with the ball.

Kusal Mendis doing the right thing to try and move the fielder, but on this occasion he was not good enough to hit it.

Will Jacks has bowled brilliantly this evening.

Kusal Mendis was Sri Lanka's last hope.

I mean, that's not a scenario where you should carry even a little hope.

Kusal Mendis is very much plumb - he was attempting the lap sweep, got his right leg some way wide of the stumps but his left was sat right in front of the wicket.

That was the leg that Jacks struck and as expected we get all reds on the ball tracking.

This definitely looks out... Kusal Mendis may as well take his pads off.

  12. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 18:53 BST 22 September

    Another wicket for Will Jacks?

Kusal Mendis looks very out here, having been struck on the pad - and that's the opinion of the umpire too.

The Sri Lankan batter reviews, out of hope more than anything else, I think.

Jamie Overton took a lot of flack on here not so long ago. However, he has improved & for me is undroppable in this 50-over side. Especially if we can figure out a way he bats at nine, not eight or higher.

  14. SL 104-5published at 26 overs

Jamie Overton continues for his fifth over.

He starts with a wide, with three singles coming off the rest of the over.

The Sri Lankan effort has rather stalled here.

The DLS score is 165, if you're wondering. Sri Lanka are behind if we use that metric.

The required run-rate has gone up to 6.6 an over.

It feels as though England are well-placed to go 1-0 up in the series.

  18. SL 101-5published at 25 overs

    Target 266

Just one run from Will Jacks' over, with Kusal Mendis taking a single to long-on after Joe Root didn't collect cleanly.

  19. SL 100-5published at 24 overs

Dunith Wellalage is next up for Sri Lanka.

He doesn't score from the final two balls of Jamie Overton's over.

It was an incredibly soft shot from Janith Liyanage, it was a nothing ball from Jamie Overton. It ended up looking like slip-catching practice on the morning of the Test.

It was an even game after the 10-over mark, but now England have came back into the game superbly.
