Here's Sachindu Colombage, Sri Lanka's leg-spinner, on debut...

Four of Ben Duckett's last five dismissals against spin in ODIs have come when sweeping.

  3. Eng 68-2published at 11 overs

Harry Brook emerges with the fall of that wicket but the spin on offer for Wellalage suggests he has made the right call at the toss.

Ben Duckett going to his favourite sweep.

You rarely see him miss one, usually he is so good at hitting it out the middle of the bat.

Dunith Wellalage changed his flight, he pushed it through quicker and flatter.

Three reds. The sweeping Ben Duckett has to go.

That's a big wicket at an important time for Sri Lanka.

    It looks pretty straight.

This is about whether Ben Duckett has got his pad outside the line to spinner Dunith Wellalage.

  8. England reviewpublished at 13:27 BST 22 September

    Ben Duckett is given lbw!

He looks towards Joe Root for some advice and gets the opinion he was hoping for.

    We're going upstairs.

Joe Root just uses his feet, advancing towards the bowler and keeping that technically correct high elbow.

When Root is timing the ball as easily as he is here, it looks like it will be a good day for him and England.

For England to get themselves into this position, it shows the momentum of 50-over cricket.

The final over of the powerplay is a good one for England, swinging this first 10 overs definitively in their favour.

Joe Root drives twice for four and Ben Duckett whips another with a wristy swish.

    Good stuff.

You forget how good a player Joe Root is in 50-over cricket.

The way he scores his runs allows England to be such a good team.

You have a player who you can build around. It has an effect on the rest of the team. It is great to see Root back to his best and finding his way in 50-over cricket.

  12. Eng 51-1published at 9 overs

    Duckett 27, Root 12

Dushmantha Chameera enters the attack and is quickly flick to the mid-wicket fence by Joe Root in that fashion I mentioned earlier. Root has passed 23,000 runs in international cricket during this innings. He's some player.

Ben Duckett follows him in finding the boundary later in the over.

England have done well to recover from post Stokes era but still too early to see if the team can play against quality sides like Australia. Batting still a concern but the bowling unit has perfomed well this summer.

  14. Eng 42-1published at 8 overs

It's a low bar but this has been more of a contest than the T20s. Ben Duckett is hurried a touch by a Madushanka bouncer and his top edge is fielded well at fine leg.

  15. How stat?!published at 13:11 BST 22 September

England have scored just four runs off the 18 deliveries on a good length (6-8m) so far today.

  16. Eng 36-1published at 7 overs

    Duckett 18, Root 6

That news is a blow for Adil Rashid but not the worst time for Rehan Ahmed to be given a full series as England's main leg-spinner. They need to see what he can do.

You can almost see Ben Duckett standing taller as he gets two cuts and a flick away in this over.

A big blow. Adil Rashid has been a mainstay as the spinner in England's white ball format.

Some news from the England dressing room...

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid has been ruled out of the series. He was already missing this match because of a hand issue and he will not play a part in the final two matches either.

Lovely timing and Joe Root just leans into the ball. A really good shot from Root.

  20. Eng 25-1published at 6 overs

    Duckett 7, Root 6

Close your eyes and think of Joe Root clipping the ball through mid-wicket. That's the shot he has just played for four runs. Textbook.
