    Josh Tongue looks the real deal the more I see him. Built like a barn door, awkward angle, hits the pitch. If he stays fit, he'll really trouble the Aussies next year on our pitches.

    Abdullah Shafique nearly undoes his good work the ball after reaching his 50, guiding the ball just to the right of gully and calling for a single.

    The problem is that the gully fielder very nearly gathers it, had he done so - with both batters hovering mid-pitch - the run out was on.

    As it is, they can jog through for one.

    From the moment Abdullah Shafique has come in, he's looked a different class of a batsman. He's played really nicely.

    A thick outside edge goes wide of the cordon and Abdullah Shafique goes through to his half-century.

    The Pakistan number four has batted very nicely so far, showing great composure having arrived at the crease with his side 7-2.

    His sixth Test fifty comes up from 82 balls.

    The past 10 minutes or so, the ball has really nipped around.

    A wicket for Josh Tongue in his last over but he's now replaced by Gus Atkinson.

    He finds Saud Shakeel's edge second ball but it bounces well short of Ben Duckett at first slip - Joe Root is going to captain from mid-off, as he revealed before this match.

    Good bounce for Atkinson as the over goes on, too, and he beats the bat once more with a cracker. Maiden.

    Ollie Robinson is still finding plenty of movement. It's been a really fair cricket wicket, not easy to bat on at all. Pakistan have gutsed it out well.

    After a much-needed breakthrough for England in the previous over, Ollie Robinson keeps up the pressure with another very tidy over.

    With Jamie Smith already up to the stumps, Abdullah Shafique now has to account for Emilio Gay, who is brought in to short leg.

    The batter manages just that and clips through square leg for two to move to 49. That's followed by an lbw appeal to end the over; not out but significant movement off the seam again for Robinson.

    After that early scare, Saud Shakeel gets up and running with a boundary through third, bringing up Pakistan's 100 in the process.

    Big inswinger there from Josh Tongue, that really swooped in.

    A lot of interest from behind but Tongue didn't react, must've been inside edge.

    One left-hander replaces another, with Saud Shakeel in at number five for Pakistan.

    He's struck on the pads by a Josh Tongue in-swinger but England opt against the review - a bit of bat on it, I think.

    It is a good catch from Harry Brook, a loose drive. Straight to his left and into the heart of his hands.

    This pair were starting to dominate, but because they started scoring quicker, Imam-ul-Haq started to speed up. It's a mistake and it's a good catch.

    Imam-ul-Haq is so frustrated with himself, he'd done so much hard work and that was just a fraction loose.

    A lapse in concentration from Imam-ul-Haq, playing at a wider delivery and pinging an edge to Harry Brook.

    He takes a good low catch at second slip and Josh Tongue has his first wicket.

    You can already see that Pakistan are starting to think, OK, we've done the hard yards. They're scoring at 3.5 without having to really try.

    Abdullah Shafique picks his spot, plants his front foot, and drives Josh Tongue through mid-on for four.

    Another seven runs added to Pakistan's tally, the last of which is more than a little comical. Imam-ul-Haq, at the non-striker's, calls his partner through with the ball sat in front of the stumps. Shafique had no idea where it was.

    Ollie Robinson completes a maiden, his second of the day. Jamie Smith was stood up to the stumps for the final delivery.
