    I played against Jordan Cox at school a fair amount. Always such a confident chap, but also a great guy off the pitch. People always said that he was going to go on and do some special things. Really backing him this series

    Jordan Cox plays through mid-off for four but three balls later, he's applauding Abbas' skill. "Just too good," he smiles after having his bat beaten. Wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan is equally enthusiastic.

    Khurram Shahzad returns to the attack and it's not great. Two looseners are deservedly spanked to the rope by Joe Root either side of four leg-byes.

    It should be noted that Muhammad Abbas did not cover himself in glory with his effort in the field off the third delivery, pretty much standing aside to signal the ball's way to the rope.

    Muhammad Abbas stays in the attack for a ninth over and concedes two runs to Jordan Cox. England trail Pakistan, bowled out for 171, by 97 runs.

    Gay needs more time! Let's face it, he looks to be much more of an opener than Crawley. He needs the rest of this series, and potentially the winter to see if he is good enough. Don't want to return to the quick discard policies that ruined some players previously.

    Harry Brook needs to put his hand up to bat three. We know he has the talent. You don't want to stifle the flair but batting three should make him play a tad more responsibly. Frankly, he's hiding at five. World-class batters do not bat five.

    There's nothing fortuitous about his next shot, however, punching through the covers for four more. A gift from Mohammad Ali who's been very hit and miss.
