Returning Test captain Joe Root has asked for his team to be “really good role models and human beings”, but some fans don’t think that should be expected.

“I actually don't think any of the players have any obligations beyond their contracts to be good or good role models,” Joe Lawrence-Thomas tells BBC Newsbeat at Headingley.

“They're employed. Do what your contract says, other than that is on you.”

Root has taken over from former Ben Stokes who stood down after a series of issues with the team this summer, including Stokes breaking a team curfew.

With Root's second reign as Test captain under way, Lawrence-Thomas says he hopes everyone can just have “a good summer” and then they’ll “see where we're at” afterwards.

Asked his thoughts on the midnight curfew, which Root has now abolished, Lawrence-Thomas jokes that he and his partner are in bed by 9pm anyways so it “wouldn't make a difference to us whether it was there or not”.

Good news! Play will restart in a little under 15 minutes with Pakistan on 23-2 after 9.4 overs.

The cover over the pitch has been wheeled away and the umpires appeared to signal up to the dressing rooms as they exited the field.

Brushing has commenced and the stumps are being reassembled.

Most of the crowd are back in their seats and waiting patiently for this inspection. There's a bit of stomping going on by the groundstaff and fourth umpire by one of the practice strips.

As the rain arrived, England thought they had a third wicket - Abdullah Shafique caught behind off Gus Atkinson.

Joe Root sent it upstairs but it turned out to be an excellent decision by the umpire. The noise England heard as the ball fizzed through to Jamie Smith was Shafique's back pad. No luck with lbw either, the ball ballooning over the stumps.

Play came to a halt after 9.4 overs, with Pakistan on 23-2. Shafique has 12 (19) and Imam-ul-Haq has 5 (18).

England made the perfect after winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

Ollie Robinson struck with the opening delivery of the match, trapping Azan Awais lbw.

And the Sussex quick soon had his and England's second, changing his angle and pinning Shan Masood lbw with a peach of an in-swinger. Plumb, plumb, plumb.

Pakistan 6-2.

I take your point about needing to prove his fitness over a longer period of time but, while he is far from a flawless bowler, Ollie Robinson has taken 85 Test wickets at 21.54.

He's also taken 21 wickets at 26.9 against Australia so it's not like he's completely flopped in the Ashes either.

Bowl like he has done this morning - and at Lord's - and he can be a huge asset for this England side.

They will host Sri Lanka for a three-match T20 series in October, with a couple of Tests to follow in November.
