That was dismissive from Avishka Fernando through the covers for four. We said he couldn't let that wicket put him off and he hasn't.

  10. SL 30-2published at 5 overs

Good shot from Avishka Fernando, driving Gus Atkinson confidently through the covers.

Pavan Rathnayake has come in at the other end, but hasn't faced yet.

Sri Lanka's best batter is out. Gus Atkinson gets a little finger on it as it goes past him and hits the stumps.

There's nothing you can do about that. That's one of those things that happens in cricket.

What a blow for Sri Lanka. Kusal Mendis, the best batter in this side, has to go for a duck.

The replays confirm it - the Sri Lanka captain has to go.

The ball brushed Gus Atkinson's fingers on his right hand, which he flung out in his follow-through, and while Kusal Mendis flung his bat back at his crease he wasn't able to ground it in time.

Needless to say, this hasn't been a great day for the Sri Lanka captain.

This is very tight. This could be very crucial.

  15. Umpire reviewpublished at 4.2 overs

    Now then.

Avishka Fernando drives Gus Atkinson down the ground, the ball appears to clip the finger of the England seamer and goes on to hit the stumps.

New batter Kusal Mendis might be short diving back for his crease.

This is a lovely piece of bowling from Josh Tongue. It just holds its line and hits the top of off stump.

What a sound it make as it hits the stumps.

    Revenge for Josh Tongue!

Having been hit for six three balls earlier, the England seamer bags Kamindu Mendis with a cracking delivery.

His ball straightens a touch, the left-handed Mendis plays down the wrong line and the off stump is clipped.

    First blood for England.

    Bang!

Josh Tongue is bowling round the wicket and sends down a short ball across the body of Kamindu Mendis.

The Sri Lanka opener gets hold of it with the pull and hits a powerful six over backward square.

In England's first game the ball did come on a little bit easier with the variable bounce when they batted second, so it is likely we will see that throughout this innings for Sri Lanka.

It feels as though it shouldn't be about winning the game but winning passes of play. Something like whether they can get 60 from the powerplay and keep up with 300.
