    Oh, Joe.

He throws his head back in frustration, having simply chipped the ball straight to Wellalage at short mid-wicket just as he was starting to accelerate.

Still, he played beautifully for his 69 from 66 balls.

What a stark contrast the beginning and end of Brooks' innings have been. He really struggled to find his rhythm in the first 20 balls, but he's been imperious since.

It's genuinely difficult to keep up with all the boundaries here. It's a stinking over from Eshan Malinga, though.

Harry Brook races into the 90s, driving down the ground for four before Eshan Malinga offers a full toss on leg stump, which I wouldn't advise.

Brook wallops it for six, and Malinga ends the over with two wides and one of the extra deliveries is pulled to the ropes as well.

    Brutal.

Terrific shot from Joe Root. He made it look so easy. Remarkably elegant. That inside-out drive was quite something.

I think Wellalage started well but over time the England batters got the better of him.

My word, he's good, isn't he?

Joe Root skips down the pitch to Wellalage and lofts an inside-out drive over extra cover, before sweeping for four more to end the over and the spinner's spell.

    He finishes with 2-56.

Joe Root is ticking now, following Brook's lead.

He whips Eshan Malinga through mid-wicket for four with exquisite timing.

A top knock from a top player. Root maintains his average in ODI cricket. England will look to capitalise on the laid foundations of this partnership as Sri Lanka struggle to break through.

It's been the Harry Brook show for the past few overs, I almost forgot that Joe Root was out there.

He whacks Dunith Wellalage for back-to-back fours, a reverse sweep and a pull, to reach a fine fifty from 55 balls.

    England are in complete control.

100 partnership up for Joe Root and Harry Brook, the second time they have achieved this milestone as a pair in ODIs.

    Nearly!

Harry Brook is playing with fire but he gets away with it again. Eshan Malinga bangs it in short and Brook upper cuts just over the fielder at short third and it trickles away for four.

He might not be the batter you'd think of when in need of a rearguard but Travis Head has reached his hundred in Gqeberha as Australia attempt to deny South Africa on the final day.

He began unbeaten on 87 and has progressed to three figures within the first half an hour.

Nightwatchman Scott Boland remains alongside him with South Africa still searching for their first breakthrough of the day.

    Scorecard

  12. Eng 193-2published at 32 overs

Brook and Root are content to let Dunith Wellalage whizz through his spell, just ticking off singles. He only has two overs left, which is a concern for Sri Lanka.

There have been times where Joe Root has got a bit funky, but when Brook bats like this, he can just carry on the way he is because England can still easily get to 340.

  14. Eng 190-2published at 31 overs

Slower ball, edged... but short of the keeper! Everything is going Harry Brook's way.

And again, all the way down the ground this time!

    This could be carnage.

  16. Eng 182-2published at 30.2 overs

    Yep, Harry's in the mood.

Back-to-back fours for England's skipper, smoking one past point and lofting the second down the ground.

These two are just different gravy. Joy to watch. We must not become reliant on them though.

I am looking forward to when Harry Brook decides it's time to have some fun in the middle.

Kusal Mendis is in a pickle here, and it's looking like Sri Lanka have got the balance of their side all wrong today.

They only have four frontline seamers and with England cruising, he might have to risk bowling the bulk of their overs at this pair, leaving them even more vulnerable at the death.

Spinner Dunith Wellalage, who removed both openers, has already got through seven of his.

  20. Eng 170-2published at 29 overs

    Steady!

A weird shot from Joe Root, plinking the ball up towards mid-on with very little conviction, but he gets lucky as it just lands safely over the fielder's head.

That would have been an absolute gift for Sri Lanka.
