Am I missing something? It looks to me that Leicestershire are now officially down (pending the appeal of course)? They're 19 points behind, can only get maximum 19 now and Essex hold the tie breaker (won both head to heads)

    Mo, Norfolk

One more wicket for Essex and they will have a bowling point. This will mean Essex will be safe and Leicestershire relegated.

Sometimes you wish cricket wasn't quite so complicated - especially at the end of a long season....

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:19 BST 24 September

    Haynes c Whiteman b Cliff 48 (Notts 177-5 v Yorkshire)

A soft dismissal but an important one for Yorkshire and potentially the title race as well.

Jack Haynes throws the kitchen sink at a short, wide one from Ben Cliff but creams it straight at Sam Whiteman at cover.

Catching practice for Whiteman and a low-key reaction all round from those in the field of a White Rose persuasion.

Haynes drags himself off two short of a half-century. Cliff has 3-29.

    Glamorgan 254-2 v Essex

That ball from Matt Critchley appeared to stay straight and Carlson just misses his shot as he tries to hook it away meaning the ball careered straight into the stumps.

To say that second Essex wicket had been a long time coming would be an understatement - it came in the 74th over - their first was in the 24th.

Tribe and Carlson both made centuries and their partnership was worth almost 180.

  4. Postpublished at 16:17 BST 24 September

    Nottinghamshire 177-4 v Yorkshire

Yet another mass Yorkshire appeal but not out says the umpire.

Jack White thinks he's got a feather inside edge from Mitch Hay which is well taken behind the stumps by Jonny Bairstow.

The man who matters however, umpire Michael Gough, is completely unmoved.

  5. Latest from New Roadpublished at 16:17 BST 24 September

He took a blinder of a catch to dismiss Yousaf Bin Naeem and now Ben Allison has a wicket to go with it.

A little bit of wobble through the air finds the edge of Harry Came's bat and he edges to keeper Henry Cullen.

Derbyshire are 25-2 in the 11th over in reply to Worcestershire's 214 all out.

  6. Postpublished at 16:15 BST 24 September

    Lancs v Durham 261-2

Mitch Stanley is labouring a bit at the moment.

He bangs on in half-way down and Emilio Gay has ages to get into the right position to pull it away between mid-wicket and mid-on for four.

The next ball is over-pitched and the Gay cover drive does the rest.

    Carlson b Critchley 107 (Glamorgan 254-2 v Essex)

Kiran Carlson's day is over. Matt Critchley's bowl, though short, took the skipper by surprise as Essex claim their second wicket.

Essex are just one wicket away from a bowling bonus point here in Cardiff which would all-but ensure their safety - appeals permitting.

    Ben Kellaway comes in.

    Kent v Glos 209-8

Back out in the middle at the St Lawrence Ground following the lengthy afternoon session.

Kent will be looking to finish off the Gloucestershire innings as quickly as possible, thereby securing the third bowling bonus points.

James Bracey tries to cut Matt Milnes and an under-edge past the keeper brings him four streaky runs. He is 78 not out.

  9. 100 runs

100 for Asa Tribepublished at 16:12 BST 24 September

    Glamorgan 254-2 v Essex

    Luke Hemmings
    BBC Sport Wales

That is successive centuries for Tribe. He follows his captain's lead as a boundary gives him 102 off 206 deliveries. Glamorgan also surpass 250 runs to bring up a first bonus point.

But prior to that Essex's bowling appeared improved - spin and tighter as Glamorgan could only collect singles until Tribe's drive.

Asa Tribe must be putting his name back in the selectors' books, definitely for Lions, maybe for SA tour squad. Likewise Sam Cook for more stingy bowling.

  10. 250 up for Durhampublished at 16:10 BST 24 September

    Lancs v Durham 252-2

Durham earn their first batting bonus point at Old Trafford as Mayank Agarwal takes a couple of steps forward and clips Noman Ali past mid-on for a single.

  11. 50 runs

50 for Dan Lawrencepublished at 16:07 BST 24 September

    Somerset v Surrey 217-4

Crashed to the boundary by Dan Lawrence to bring up his 50 in style.

He got there in 86 balls with six fours and one six in 99 minutes.

Worryingly for Somerset, no-one has scored more centuries this season than Lawrence's five.

  12. Tea at Lord'spublished at 16:04 BST 24 September

    Middx 110-5 v Northants 103

Tea at Lord's and it's been Middlesex's day so far despite their top order wobbling this afternoon.

We've had 15 wickets in the first two sessions play and this one, weather permitting, does not look like it will be going far into Sunday, if at all.

Northamptonshire fought back and Ben Sanderson took 4-37 from seven overs in the middle session but an excellent quickfire half-century from Ben Geddes has put the hosts back in charge.

They lead the promotion-chasers by seven runs with five first-innings wickets still in hand.

    Geddes b Miller 57 (Middx 108-5 v Northants 103)

Two balls after a superb straight drive for four, Ben Geddes has to go for an entertaining 57.

This one gets straight through the gate. Good delivery from Gus Miller down the slope and potentially Lewis McManus up to the stumps plays a part in this as well.

Geddes departs with an over to tea still to play out.

  14. Play under way at Trent Bridgepublished at 15:59 BST 24 September

Play resumes after tea at Trent Bridge.

Jack Haynes remains 48* while new man in Mitchell Hay is 4*.

Jack Leaning's attacking onslaught is over. Shortly after hitting his sixth six of the innings, Leaning is bowled by Eddie Jack for 78.

Sussex are bowled out six runs short of a batting bonus point, but I'm sure they would have taken 244 all out when they were 124-7 earlier today.

  16. Middlesex take leadpublished at 15:58 BST 24 September

    Middx 104-4 v Northants 103

An excellent batting recovery from Middlesex, who were at one stage 32-4, and they now lead Northamptonshire who have suffered a bad first day at Lord's.

  17. 200 runs

200 up for Surreypublished at 15:52 BST 24 September

    Somerset v Surrey 201-4

A flurry of singles after tea from Dan Lawrence and Ben Foakes steer Surrey over 200 runs in 70 overs.

Lawrence is four runs away from a half-century.

  18. Latest from New Roadpublished at 15:51 BST 24 September

    An absolute stunner.

Worcestershire have taken their first wicket at the start of Derbyshire's reply to their 214 all out with Yousak Bin Naeem caught at slip off Tom Taylor for two.

Those, though, are just the bare facts.

Naeem threw everything into an attempted drive and Ben Allison somehow clung onto a one-handed catch above shoulder height.

Derbyshire are 13-1 after five overs.

  19. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 15:51 BST 24 September

    Warks 43-2 v Leics 125

Rob Yates is bowledImage source, Shutterstock

An interesting afternoon session at Edgbaston, where Leicestershire have made early inroads against title-chasing Warwickshire.

The Bears wrapped up the Foxes' first innings for 125, Ethan Bamber ending with four wickets and Chris Woakes three.

But the home side lost Rob Yates without scoring in the third over and Dan Mousley has departed too, with Ian Holland claiming both wickets.

  20. 100 runs

Century for Carlsonpublished at 15:50 BST 24 September

    Glamorgan 235-1 Essex

    Luke Hemmings
    BBC Sport Wales

It only takes one over after tea for Kiran Carlson to reach a deserved century. After being frustrated by Sam Cook's opening five balls, the Glamorgan skipper nudged two runs to bring up the century. Sublime batting.
