Things seem to have mellowed a bit after Gus Atkinson's wicket as Pakistan pick up two singles.

It's a fairly tidy over from Atkinson in the end. Will he find another before the delayed tea?

All the batsmen for Pakistan have come in and seemed to have a lot more intent about their game. Something has to have gone on behind the scenes for seven people to have been sent home.

Joe Root has the field spread for Josh Tongue which, despite the scoreline, is not that surprising given the way Tongue has leaked boundaries today. He has been hit for 13 fours in 11 overs. There are four legs byes down the leg side in this one too.

That lefties thing is definitely one to watch.

You would say this is Pakistan's last experienced and established batting partnership now. Their last hope of getting a score.

That half-century will mean a lot to Babar Azam. It's been a very difficult tour on and off the pitch for Pakistan's captain. He's faced 76 balls and hit eight fours. He's worked hard for this.

50 for Babar Azampublished at 54 overs

Babar Azam hurries back to two to move to his first fifty of the series and his 34th overall. It has come too late but he's another who has batted nicely. It's something to take forward to the future.

It's been a totally different approach for Pakistan batting in these innings. After the shock of the first over, it's just almost as if the pressures off and they've just gone 'it can't get any worse and we'll just play like we know we can play.'

We have mentioned Josh Tongue's relative struggles against left-handers before. He averages 20.3 against right-handers in Tests with 46 wickets but his average against lefties is 36.5. His economy is worse too.

Saud Shakeel, one of those pesky southpaws, drives him for four here.

Now then. That Dan Lawrence catch...

  10. Pak 229-4published at 52 overs

Babar Azam moves to 48 as he guides through the slip cordon for four. He almost went to pull out of the shot but the ball squirts off the bottom of the bat and runs away.

The floodlights are starting to flicker on at Edgbaston. We can play until 19:00 BST tonight but it feels unlikely that the light will hold up to allow that to happen.

Josh Tongue is warming up too. A change may not be far away.

Dan Lawrence is having a good day. That catch and a wicket earlier...

You can tell by the look on Dan Lawrence's face he knew that was special. I think he surprised himself.

Brilliant catch by Dan Lawrence. He's got a good pair of hands, big mitts.

That's the lift that Gus Atkinson will need. He's not bowled badly at all. He's just not managed to take the wickets.

He's got one now, maybe that will get him on a roll.

Dan Lawrence takes the catch. What a dive! Stunning grab, Masood walking off five short of a century. A defiant knock from him.

A sensational catch from Dan Lawrence at fourth slip. He's diving low to his right one-handed and scoops the ball up above the ground.

There will be no century for Shan Masood. Gus Atkinson finally has a wicket.

    They're just checking.

  18. Pak 214-3published at 49.1 overs

Almost! Gus Atkinson gets one to nip away from Shan Masood. Masood gets lucky on the drive and has just given himself a stern telling off.

This is the first real test that this new fast-bowling quartet have experienced. It is the best thing that could have happened for them.

    Masood 95, Babar 38

There is no need to panic. Test cricket was once all about its slower days like these.

Babar Azam has just started playing at a few away from his body which may caused him problems.

Shan Masood remains on 95 not out.
