Only one partnership worth more than 20 runs so far for Northants and that was between Saif Zaib and Chris Lynn, who put on 65 for the fourth wicket.

That has been the problem for the Steelbacks and the joy for Somerset - regular wickets.

Just four singles and a dot to follow the wicket in the Riley Meredith over. Another decent return for the defending champions.

Attempted ramp by Lewis McManus from Lewis Gregory and it flicks the bat on the way through to wicketkeeper Thomas Rew, but the 18-year-old puts it down.

Almost a slightly half-hearted effort from Rew as he sticks up his left glove and it bounces straight back out.

Five singles from the over before McManus flicks through the leg-side and times it perfectly to run all the way for four.

I think this is a good pitch, it's just a fairly new batter that's just missed a ball. It was there in the slot to be hit.

Unfortunately for Louis Kimber he's not got that long an innings. He's got to get going.

Regular wickets always slow up the runs and that's what Somerset have managed in this first innings.

Two new batters at the crease for Northants with Louis Kimber and Lewis McManus who have to rebuild.

They pick up eight runs from the Daniel Sams over but it's now 14 balls since the Steelbacks last hit a boundary.

Not for the want of trying though, as McManus smashes one to deep mid-wicket but Tom Banton races across and does well to prevent the four.

Jake Ball has been the pick of the bowlers for Somerset so far.

Varied pace, just nine runs from his three overs so far and the two big wickets of Northamptonshire's top scorers up until now - Chris Lynn (39) and Saif Zaib (27).
