Charlton boss Nathan Jones spoke to BBC Radio London after his side's comprehensive defeat by league leaders Middlesbrough this afternoon:

"We are constantly in games and there are moments where, if we don't score, they will sooner or later because we're not defending well enough.

"We've been doing the basics well since I've been here, two and a half years, and now we've stopped doing those.

"Last year we came here with effectively a weaker group, I had Macaulay Gillesphey, Conor Coady and Keenan Gough as my back three and they defended considerably better than we did today.

"Last year we had that desire to keep clean sheets and at the minute we're not showing that desire."

Burnley manager Fabio Celestini told BBC Radio Lancashire after his side's goalless draw in his first game in charge:

"It is a great feeling to be at Turf Moor, part of English football, traditional football in this incredible stadium.

"It is my birthday, three points would be a perfect present. But it was a perfect birthday because the fans were incredible with me.

"It was a solid performance. I know these games can be very difficult and the team can be fragile. We fought for 95 minutes and I saw a good spirit, a good dynamic.

"That is the first step but [it is] not enough. We tried to give what we had to win and it was not possible."

Cardiff boss Barry-Murphy reflects as side still winless away after a 3-0 loss to Wolves.

Cardiff are still searching for a first away win of the season in the Championship.

After a 3-0 defeat by Wolves, head coach Brian Barry-Murphy has told BBC Wales:

"It was a difficult game for us and we just weren't at our best in the first half when we needed to be in possession.

"The players gave everything in the second half but we just couldn't find a way back into the game.

"All three goals from our perspective were very soft - we came here to win the game, we didn't take a step back but we defended our box really poorly."

Wolves collected a seventh Championship win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Cardiff.

Head coach Cesar Peixoto has told BBC Radio WM:

"The players followed the game plan in the first half amazingly.

"We sped up the game at the right moments and we won a lot of balls high up the pitch.

"The team played much better, played with courage.

"We managed the game well at 3-0 and it's a good victory for us.

Middlesbrough midfielder Sebastian Berhalter told BBC Radio Tees after his side's emphatic win at home:

"It wasn't clicking at first and I think the fans kept us going - it didn't matter if we messed up, they believed in us.

"They [Charlton] were direct and have two guys up top that do a really good job, and it was for us to stay strong, weather that storm, and be ready to strike when we're ready.

"He [Will Lankshear] is such a quality player and it's his movement too - before I even had the ball (for the second goal), he started running across the line and that's something we talk about all the time. We trust each other.

"He's a competitor, he makes sure he wins in training every time, and he loves scoring goals."

An off day for (Blackburn) Rovers today. Even the best sides of the past had them. Still well placed for a promotion push. A chance to bounce back instantly on Tuesday against Stoke.

Skubala out......! Oh, oh, erm, maybe not...

    Chris, London

I've seen Hermansen get slated a lot recently, and while I agree he's not good, our midfield and defence have made him look so much worse than he actually is. The manager has a lot to answer for right now, too.

    Steven, London

It was another tough day for West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen as the Hammers conceded three in their 3-1 home defeat by West Brom.

Preston North End boss Graham Alexander told BBC Radio Lancashire after another difficult day for his new side:

"The second goal opens us up for the rest of the game. I just thought Stoke at that time were too mentally confident and too strong for us.

"It's something we have to change on the mentality side. The mindset is a strange phenomenon. Bad things happen to everybody, but its how you respond to them.

"We have to make sure we respond well. Today was a reality check."

"For the first 27 minutes, there was nothing in it. Literally, nothing happened. Then we get the goal and get a bit of confidence from it.

We could really have had two, three, four more. Keeper made saves, we weren't clinical enough, that's the only thing I would say is that we could have done better.

"It was a good three points without a shadow of a doubt and a really decent performance."

If you're thinking there was an unusually high number of goals in the Championship today, you'd be right.

Our friends at Opta have just informed us that this is the first Saturday with not every team playing to see as many as 40 goals since 14th October 2006 (40 goals in 10 games).

There were 11 games in the second tier today with 40 goals across them, albeit Burnley 0-0 Portsmouth didn't bring anything to the party.

Wolves are up to third place in the Championship with their 3-0 win over Cardiff.

Defender Hugo Bueno has told BBC Radio WM:

"It's been a good day, a solid win for the team and we have to keep it like this - we have to go with the same mentality in the next game.

"We know this league is a bit crazy so we don't have to get crazy with this win.

"We have to keep going with the same mentality, the same intensity and do everything right.

"There are a lot of matches so we have to recover well."

Kyrell Lisbie scored twice and head coach Alex Neil has been talking to BBC Radio London:

"We started brilliantly to be 3-0 up.

"It was a lot of pent-up frustration building up into the game.

"A lot of today was about putting things right, making sure we started well and won the game.

"We haven't been in brilliant form ourselves in terms of results and we knew they would come and fight.

"We looked like a team that was confident and they didn't - I said before the game to make sure we don't play with any fear."

  14. Championship stats of the daypublished at 17:38 GMT 31 October

    Paris MaghomaImage source, Getty Images
    • In their 3-2 win against Watford, Norwich came from two goals down to win a league game for the first time since September 2014 (4-2 vs Cardiff City).
    • August Priske has scored five goals in four league appearances in October. It’s the most Championship goals by a Birmingham player in a single month since Scott Hogan’s six in February 2020.
    • West Ham have lost consecutive home games within the same Championship campaign for the first time since January 2005 (vs Sheffield United and Derby).
    • No player has scored more goals in England’s top four tiers than Will Lankshear this season (13), who netted another two in Middlesbrough’s 3-0 win against Charlton today.
    • Millwall were 3-0 ahead after 17 minutes in their 4-1 win against Derby. It’s the earliest they’ve scored three goals in an EFL match since the 2004-05 rebrand.

    FT: Swansea 4-0 Blackburn

    Owain Gwynedd Griffith
BBC Final Score at the Swansea.com Stadium

After watching West Ham, Championship promotion favourites, beat Swansea 1-0 a couple of weeks ago, I recall saying that Swansea will be in the promotion mix at the end of the season albeit a defeat… how silly did I feel a week later when QPR smashed five past what was the best defence in the league at the time.

The Swans showed real character to put in their best performance of the season, especially the first 45 minutes, against Blackburn. A performance based on their high energy and high press. Winning the ball back early and allowing Opoku, Widell and Eom to impress in the wide channels. Each of them could and maybe should have been on the scoresheet.

It’s scary to think where the Swans team could go. Both of the main strike options, Adam Idah and last season’s top scorer, Zan Vipotnik are out of form and were on the bench. Ross Stewart starting in their place and scoring.

For Blackburn… this one can be filed under ‘one to forget’.

Derby were 3-0 down in 17 minutes at Millwall.

The Rams have now gone nine games without a win in the Championship.

Boss John Eustace has told BBC Radio Derby:

"We just didn't defend well enough - we lost too many duels in the first 20 minutes.

"It was always going to be tough with a makeshift back four but there is no excuse.

"We've got a patched-up defence but you still expect better - the way we defended was poor.

"A lot can happen in football, it's a tough place to come to and that first 20 minutes didn't stand up to the fight but we've got two home games now to show we're together.

"I expect a huge reaction - the players, fans and staff have got to get through this really difficult moment."

    Media caption,

Chris Davies speaks following win at Lincoln.

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies spoke to BBC WM after his side's 3-1 win at Lincoln City briefly moved them up to second in the table:

"The fight, the connection between the players, we looked like a real team out there.

"(August) Priske gives you that presence, works hard. The first one just falls to him and he's got that instinctive ability to turn, he's got two good feet and placed it well.

"That was great and the athleticism, the bravery for the second and the skill to get it past the keeper shows he's becoming a real focal point for us.

"I was wondering whether to start him and I'm really pleased with the decision I made, it was better to get him on there and get him off when he tired than the other way round."

Chris Cohen and Reeco Hackett reflect on a 3-1 defeat to Birmingham City.

Lincoln City lost 3-1 at home to Birmingham City and co-head coach Chris Cohen told BBC Radio Lincolnshire:

"When we watch it back, there'll be some bits we're pleased with but when you give away the goals that we conceded, you can't expect to get anything out of a game against Birmingham City.

"Our message at half-time was if we have the same half again, we'll get back into it but unfortunately the second goal, and the timing of it - it ended up getting a little bit frantic.

"We've got to address the emotion in the game, we've got to address (how to react) when we're winning, when we're losing, when we're drawing, when we get bad decisions, we (need to) try to keep sticking to the plan.

"We saw in the first half that when the boys are executing on the plan and they get to their levels, we're really difficult to play against."

Alessio Dionisi reacts after Watford lose 3-2 to Norwich after being two up at half time.

Watford surrendered a 2-0 half-time lead at Norwich to lose 3-2 and remain without an away win in the Championship.

The Hornets' head coach Alessio Dionisi spoke to BBC Three Counties Radio:

"It's difficult to explain the difference between the first and second halves. Football is crazy.

"It's impossible to lose a match in 15 minutes, when it was 2-0 at the end of the first half. The match changed after five minutes in the second half, and I didn't understand why.

"We arrived late in every situation. I watched too many mistakes in the second half. It's impossible to win if we arrive late, and if we don't want to win.

"We need courage to play, with the ball and without the ball we [need to] block because it's impossible for us to stay high for 90 minutes."

Norwich City boss Philippe Clement reacts to the 3-2 win over Watford

Norwich City came from 2-0 down to beat Watford at lunchtime and make it back-to-back victories.

The Canaries' head coach Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"For the group it's a good way to come back and show the unity, as well as how they are physically to respond although of course you don't want to go behind.

"At half time I said there were two choices in life - to be the victim or to fight through it and with this team we can do that.

"The big difference between the two halves was not scoring the goals and scoring the goals which sounds simple but we had good chances in the first half where we came close several times but in the second half we defended better.

"This is a really clear statement about the unity in this group and how hungry they are to dig out results."
