Andy Robinson says Swansea City set their standard in the first half of their 2-0 win against Watford.

The Swans are top of the Championship thanks to victories against Stoke City, Derby County and the Hornets plus a draw with Sheffield United.

Vitor Matos' side host Wrexham on Saturday, 5 September (20:00 BST) fresh from a comprehensive victory against Watford secured by goals by Eom Ji-sung and Adam Idah in a dominant first half.

And Robinson believes Matos must now demand the same level of performance from his players in the games to come.

"Standards have been set now," said former midfielder Robinson, who made 226 appearances and scored 54 goals for the Swans.

"We know what they can do with that first 45 minutes, so they have got to show consistency with energy, aggression and tenacity

"It was absolutely fantastic against Watford. It's three clean sheets on the bounce and goals in abundance, and [Zan] Vipotnik hasn't even scored yet.

"They have set a standard now and when Matos goes into the dressing room he can say 'I've seen you do it now, that is what you are capable of in that first 45 minutes'.

"Two goals, a clean sheet and Swansea are top of the league, so enjoy it."

The Swans now host a Wrexham side buoyed by an impressive 3-0 win at Millwall on Wednesday.

Robinson said: "Wrexham coming to town will only spur them on again. It could go from a good start to a fantastic start."

The Red Dragons are chasing a first win in south Wales since returning to the Football League after losses at Newport County in League Two in 2024 and Swansea in the Championship last season, then a draw at Cardiff City on opening weekend.

Swansea City had a busy summer transfer window, signing 11 players, and are currently sitting pretty atop the Championship table on goal difference.

New addition Joseph Opoku has already found the back of the net twice, while fellow summer arrival Stephen Welsh has also earned rave reviews.

Manchester City youngster Jeremy Monga was the final piece in the puzzle for Vitor Matos at the end of a transfer window which saw Swansea sign three internationals.

New Zealand's World Cup hero Eli Just has joined from Motherwell. Canada's Stephen Eustaquio and Scotland's Ross Stewart are also through the door.

As are Malian winger Moussa Yeo, 21-year-old midfielder Tom Iorpenda and loanees Tiago Parente and Jenson Seelt.

Vitor Matos has declared himself "really happy" with Swansea City's transfer business after the Welsh side rounded off a busy summer window by signing Jeremy Monga.

Manchester City teenager Monga's loan move was confirmed on Wednesday morning but had been finalised before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

The winger became Swansea's 10th new addition since the end of last season, with Stephen Welsh, Tom Iorpenda, Stephen Eustaquio, Elijah Just, Moussa Yeo, Joseph Opoku and Ross Stewart arriving on permanent deals and Tiago Parente and Jensen Seelt joining on loan.

Zan Vipotnik, Swansea's 25-goal leading scorer last season, remains at the club, although Matos stressed after Tuesday's win over Watford that some overseas transfer windows remain open.

The biggest transfer setback of the summer for the Swans was Ethan Galbraith's departure for Stoke, while a late push to sign another defender came to nothing.

Nevertheless, Matos says he is happy with the squad at his disposal as the focus turns to Saturday's Welsh derby against Wrexham.

"I think the club made a lot of effort regarding the profile of players we identified we needed, the character and the personality of the players," the Swansea head coach said.

"I think we needed to build the squad around the characters that we had here, but mix it up with experience, with talent, and at the same time with the right mindset in terms of values. That's what we were able to do.

"Now it's about having these players make this a proper team in terms of togetherness, which is already on the way. It is about taking care because these things are like taking care of a plant, no? It grows, it's beautiful, but you still need to take care."

Former Wales forward Nathan Blake feels Zan Vipotnik's output has been impacted by continued speculation about his Swansea future.

Question marks have swirled around Vipotnik all summer following an impressive 2025-26 campaign that saw him win the Championship golden boot.

Swans boss Vitor Matos has said that interest from other clubs has been difficult for Vipotnik to navigate as he awaits his first goal of the season,.

And Blake believes the Slovenian international missed chances he would typically score during Saturday's victory at Derby.

Vipotnik started on the bench for a second consective league fixture and missed a good one-on-one chance as the Swans ran out 3-0 winners at Pride Park.

"My theory with Vipotnik is that you don't mess with strikers when they are in form. He was on fire last season and hasn't known if he is going to move," Blake said on BBC's Feast of Football Podcast.

"If you're in his shoes, you'd be thinking 'I'm not playing, I'm moving, now I'm not moving, am I still first choice? Has Idah taken my position?'

"That ball which came across [against Derby], he finishes it last year. He wouldn't even have given the keeper a chance.

"I don't think he's been dropped, I think he's been put aside because they don't want to risk him getting injured and hopefully get £15million as a minimum.

"I think he's worth more than that.

"I could see by looking at his face, he's not on it. He's probably two or three yards short mentally because of what is going on."

Swansea midfielder Jay Fulton heaped praise on defenders Filip Lissah and Stephen Welsh for stepping up in the absence of Ben Cabango and Cam Burgess.

Lissah, 21, and summer signing Welsh, 26, partnered each other in defence as Swansea ran out 3-0 winners at Derby County on Saturday.

Welsh defender Cabango missed the game with a heel injury, while Australian international Burgess is expected to miss the season with an Achilles injury.

Fulton, who wore the captain's armband at Pride Park, hailed Swansea's performance and gave special mention to the new centre-back pairing.

"It had everything: three goals, a clean sheet and three different goalscorers. It was a complete performance," Fulton said of the win.

"A special mention to Stephen Welsh and Filip Lissah because we came here without Cam and Ben, who are big players and personalities in the squad.

"They have stepped up in the last couple of games. Welshy is a little bit older, but he is new to the league. They've stepped up for us."

Former Swansea midfielder Owain Tudur Jones was covering the game for BBC Radio Cymru and was particularly impressed by Lissah's performance.

The Czech under-21 international won all but one of his nine duels as the Rams were prevented from registering a shot on target on home soil.

Lissah, who spent last season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Falkirk, began the season at right-back before injuries forced him to shuffle across.

"Lissah has come into the team at 21 years old and delivered an incredible performance," said Jones.

"I don't have the time to work through the full team; everyone impressed because as bad as Derby were, you still have to come here and perform.

"Vitor Matos' men have done that today. Swansea will hope this good start is not just a three-game run.

"They will want this to lead to a positive season. People will start to speak about Swansea after a performance like that."

Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos is optimistic that Joseph Opoku did not suffer a serious injury during their 3-0 win at Derby County.

Summer signing Opoku put the Swans in front after 90 seconds before being forced off with a cut foot midway through the first half.

The Ghanaian international was reluctant to go down, and seemingly signalled his desire to continue after an impressive start at Pride Park.

"He had a cut on his foot; it was deep and really bleeding. It was really painful for him. That is why he had to come out," said Matos.

"He could not cope with the rest of the game. I don't believe [he will be out for a long period of time].

"It's more about healing that and then going again. [It's] nothing major."

Opoku, who joined from Belgian club Zulte Waregem in the summer, has made a fast start to life in South Wales, scoring twice in three Championship appearances.
