Former Wales forward Nathan Blake feels Zan Vipotnik's output has been impacted by continued speculation about his Swansea future.

Question marks have swirled around Vipotnik all summer following an impressive 2025-26 campaign that saw him win the Championship golden boot.

Swans boss Vitor Matos has said that interest from other clubs has been difficult for Vipotnik to navigate as he awaits his first goal of the season,.

And Blake believes the Slovenian international missed chances he would typically score during Saturday's victory at Derby.

Vipotnik started on the bench for a second consective league fixture and missed a good one-on-one chance as the Swans ran out 3-0 winners at Pride Park.

"My theory with Vipotnik is that you don't mess with strikers when they are in form. He was on fire last season and hasn't known if he is going to move," Blake said on BBC's Feast of Football Podcast.

"If you're in his shoes, you'd be thinking 'I'm not playing, I'm moving, now I'm not moving, am I still first choice? Has Idah taken my position?'

"That ball which came across [against Derby], he finishes it last year. He wouldn't even have given the keeper a chance.

"I don't think he's been dropped, I think he's been put aside because they don't want to risk him getting injured and hopefully get £15million as a minimum.

"I think he's worth more than that.

"I could see by looking at his face, he's not on it. He's probably two or three yards short mentally because of what is going on."

Swansea midfielder Jay Fulton heaped praise on defenders Filip Lissah and Stephen Welsh for stepping up in the absence of Ben Cabango and Cam Burgess.

Lissah, 21, and summer signing Welsh, 26, partnered each other in defence as Swansea ran out 3-0 winners at Derby County on Saturday.

Welsh defender Cabango missed the game with a heel injury, while Australian international Burgess is expected to miss the season with an Achilles injury.

Fulton, who wore the captain's armband at Pride Park, hailed Swansea's performance and gave special mention to the new centre-back pairing.

"It had everything: three goals, a clean sheet and three different goalscorers. It was a complete performance," Fulton said of the win.

"A special mention to Stephen Welsh and Filip Lissah because we came here without Cam and Ben, who are big players and personalities in the squad.

"They have stepped up in the last couple of games. Welshy is a little bit older, but he is new to the league. They've stepped up for us."

Former Swansea midfielder Owain Tudur Jones was covering the game for BBC Radio Cymru and was particularly impressed by Lissah's performance.

The Czech under-21 international won all but one of his nine duels as the Rams were prevented from registering a shot on target on home soil.

Lissah, who spent last season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Falkirk, began the season at right-back before injuries forced him to shuffle across.

"Lissah has come into the team at 21 years old and delivered an incredible performance," said Jones.

"I don't have the time to work through the full team; everyone impressed because as bad as Derby were, you still have to come here and perform.

"Vitor Matos' men have done that today. Swansea will hope this good start is not just a three-game run.

"They will want this to lead to a positive season. People will start to speak about Swansea after a performance like that."

Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos is optimistic that Joseph Opoku did not suffer a serious injury during their 3-0 win at Derby County.

Summer signing Opoku put the Swans in front after 90 seconds before being forced off with a cut foot midway through the first half.

The Ghanaian international was reluctant to go down, and seemingly signalled his desire to continue after an impressive start at Pride Park.

"He had a cut on his foot; it was deep and really bleeding. It was really painful for him. That is why he had to come out," said Matos.

"He could not cope with the rest of the game. I don't believe [he will be out for a long period of time].

"It's more about healing that and then going again. [It's] nothing major."

Opoku, who joined from Belgian club Zulte Waregem in the summer, has made a fast start to life in South Wales, scoring twice in three Championship appearances.

We asked Swansea City fans for their season ambitions after an unbeaten start to the Championship campaign, and what they would do if any late offers arrive for striker Zan Vipotnik.

The Swans have thus far kept hold of last season's Championship golden boot winner, and Vipotnik featured in their opening weekend win at Stoke City and last weekend's draw with Sheffield United.

Here is what some fans had to say:

Gareth: This is the first time in a long time that my thoughts for the coming season are more aligned with promotion than the worry about being relegated. For the past few seasons, the team has often found itself more in danger of slipping into League One than returning to the Premier League. I sense a new optimism among the supporters that at last the club is heading in the right direction. But we must guard against unrealistic expectations. The players are new to each other; it will take time for them to gel before we will see the best they are capable of. So be patient.

Pete: If a Championship club is aiming to get to the Premier League, then they have to think and act like a Premier League club. If offers come in for Vipotnik, don't sell cheap like desperados - ask PL prices. I've seen £20-30m mentioned. Be brave, ask £35-40m. Be what you aim to be.

Brian: We still need to be ruthless up front as we miss so many chances; stick with the same striker instead of changing each week. If a good offer comes in for Vipotnik, we should sell him. The team is looking strong, though.

Robert: During their first game of the season against Stoke, they showed glimpses of the football that everyone wants to see week in, week out. But unfortunately, they did not produce that at home and struggled at times. Defensively, we seem to be unsure, and against stiffer opposition we will get punished if this area is not strengthened. Let's hope they have the right players in place to produce the results we all expect from this squad. Time will tell.

Head coach Vitor Matos says a summer of transfer speculation has not been easy for Zan Vipotnik as the Slovenia striker waits to see whether he will stay at Swansea City.

Vipotnik has been linked with a move having finished the 2025-26 season as the Championship's 23-goal leading scorer.

But as the clock ticks down until Tuesday's 23:00 BST transfer deadline, Swansea say they have received no offers for Vipotnik since Hull City had a bid of about £10m rejected earlier this month.

Vipotnik has featured in Swansea's three games so far this season and should again be involved at Derby County on Saturday.

But head coach Matos says rumours over a potential transfer are "never easy" for a player.

"Of course there is always a lot of noise regarding his future and how it will be," Matos said.

"He is a lovely kid with a really big heart, a good professional, but of course it is not easy. Before anything they are human beings and we need to take care of that part.

"But so far what I've seen is he's committed, he's training well, he's always in a good mood, especially because he went to the PFA [Awards] and received another award. So yeah, he's dealing in the best way possible I would say."

Swansea have consistently said they are under no pressure to sell Vipotnik, who signed a new long-term contract in March.

Nevertheless, the club have effectively prepared for the forward's possible departure by bringing in Ross Stewart this summer.

As a result, should a big enough bid arrive before the window closes, they could be willing to sell.

When asked whether Swansea may draw the line at some point and declare that Vipotnik is not for sale, Matos said: "I think we will only say that when the transfer window is closed, but that's the same regarding every player."

A win for Swansea City in this meeting with Derby County (12:30 BST) could send the Welsh side top of the Championship.

The Rams are hoping to record their first win of the campaign after defeat by Charlton and a draw against the Swans' rivals Cardiff City.

• Derby County did the league double over Swansea City last season (2-1 away, 2-0 home) but have never won three in a row against the Swans in the Football League.

• Swansea City have won just one of their past seven Championship away games against Derby County (D2 L4), a 2-1 victory in November 2024.

• Derby have won six of their past eight home league games, though are winless across their past two (D1 L1) which includes a 2-2 draw against Welsh opponents Cardiff last time out at Pride Park.

• Swansea are unbeaten across their past five away league games (W3 D2), last enjoying a longer run on the road between February and November 2020 (11 games).

• Derby's Carlton Morris has scored three goals across his past five league appearances against Swansea City, while he also netted against Welsh side Cardiff City last time out.

Swansea City Women will play three Adran Premier fixtures at the Swansea.com Stadium during phase one of the new season.

The first opportunity to showcase women's football at the club's main stadium will be against Cardiff Metropolitan on Sunday, 20 September.

Briton Ferry Llansawel visit a month later on Sunday, 18 October before the final phase one home game against The New Saints on Sunday, 17 January.

All three fixtures kick-off at 15:00 BST.

The women last played at the Swansea.com Stadium in their opening two home games in 2024.

The Swans will kick off the new season with a south Wales derby against Cardiff City at Garden Village Park on Sunday, 6 September (17:15 BST).

They will be looking to build on last season's third-place finish, in what was head coach Yzzy Taylor's first full campaign in charge.
