The Kenyan is in lane 5, sandwiched between Scotland's Mena Scatchard and Wales' Isabelle Boffey.

Adelle Tracey has just missed out on automatic qualification after a burst of pace from Botswana's Oratile Nowe pushes her to fourth.

She'll have a nervous wait now to see if she can sneak through with one of the four fastest non-automatic times.

Australia's Sarah Billings has set the pace for the rest of the field to win the heat with a time of 2:01.51.

Adam Ramsay-Peaty is back in the pool this evening as he tries to defend his 50m breaststroke title.

The Englishman was third fastest in yesterday's semi-finals and he will have to close the gap to South Africa's Michael Houlie - who set the pace with 26.61.

"I think I've still got a little bit more to grow. I think there was a massive lesson in yesterday," Ramsay-Peaty told BBC Sport after his 50m semi-final - following his bronze medal in the 100m on Saturday.

"I can't change anything obviously, so we have to get over it. I also know the trajectory I have to be on now and it's a little bit different to what I thought it was.

"I've also got to remind myself that I haven't swam a championships in two years. I put a lot of expectation on myself coming into this games.

"But as you know, the best athletes in the world, you don't do it in training, you have to actually compete well and that is a skill on its own and we have to get used to that."

There's no England athlete in the first heat of the women's 800m heat but there is a familiar face in Adelle Tracey.

The 33-year-old formally ran for Team GB but defected to Jamaica in 2022.

She's going well on the outside of the group after this first lap.

Amalie Smith can't close the gap, but she makes sure no one can catch her and sneak into second.

The 16-year-old will take home the silver medal on her Commonwealth Games debut! What an achievement.

Australia's Jenna Forrester was in complete control and she wins gold, while her compatriot Ella Ramsay gets bronze.

First up in the pool is the women's 400m individual medley final.

All four strokes in the following order: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

There will no Summer McIntosh, the reigning Olympic champion in this event, as the Canadian has opted to skip the Commonwealth Games for next month's Pan Pacific Games.

However, there is interest for the home nations with Scotland's Evi Mackie, England's Amalie Smith and Jersey's Clara Ginnis all in action.

Smith was the fastest in the heats by over a second.

The high jumpers are out warming up on the track here where there's a bit of a chill in the air.

England's Kimani Jack is looking suitably elastic and relaxed as he back flips onto the crash mat.

With defending champion Hamish Kerr in the field it could take something special to win here but Jack's PB of 2.31m is better than the 2.25m Kerr won with in Birmingham four years ago.

With Birmingham's 800m silver medallist and world number two Keeley Hodgkinson electing to miss out ahead of a busy summer, England's hopes will rest on the shoulders of Georgia Hunter Bell.

The reigning World Indoor 1500m champion took the silver in the 800m event in the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo and will be looking to do one better here.

She enters the heats as the highest ranked at world number five but the woman who beat her in Japan last year, Kenya's Lilian Odira, will be one to keep an eye on.

A big cheer at Scotstoun as the F57 shot putters enter the field.

Among the athletes competing is 17-year-old Ellie Bowen who makes her Commonwealth Games debut for Wales.

Bowen had her leg amputated at 13-months old after being diagnosed with necrotising fasciitis, a rare but severe bacterial infection that destroys tissue beneath the skin.

She started out wheelchair racing before she found a passion for throwing.

Her family are here tonight, including her father Martin, who built a campervan to ensure his daughter could to travel to athletics competitions.

There will be many eyes on Josh Kerr when he takes his place for the mile race on Saturday.

The Scotsman destroyed the world record by nearly half a second at the London Diamond League earlier this month and he's got some high ambitions to delight his home crowd.

Having already broken a 27-year old record, can he beat the three minutes 42.66 seconds record he's set on his own soil?

"This is something we were dreaming about as kids," Kerr says. "I was in a Scottish development squad talking about the Commonwealth Games all the time and that is the kind of stuff that you don't forget.

"Time goes by, and I've lived out in the States for a long time, but these are my roots and this is my blood and I just want to do myself proud and do Scotland proud."

England aren't the only ones to lose an athletics star to injury today.

Welsh athlete Abi Pawlett has pulled out of the heptathlon event following Katarina Johnson-Thompson in withdrawing from the competition.

Pawlett has been recovering from an Achilles injury that forced her out of the World Indoor Championships in March and the workload of seven events here in Glasgow is beyond her.

However she will still compete in the 200m as Wales' only female entry after national record holder Hannah Brier was controversially not selected after missing the cut off date to run the qualification time.

Team England have been particularly hit by withdrawals, with Olympic silver medallists Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Matt Hudson-Smith, as well as 400m runners Amber Anning and Charlie Dobson all pulling out of the event.

Sprinters Dina Asher-Smith, Daryll Neita and Louie Hinchliffe have also withdrawn, leaving just one England athlete to compete in the 100m event, Lancashire's Elliot Jones.

Athletics can be a gruelling sport and the impact of a long, tough season is already on full show at the Commonwealth Games this year.

Team Scotland took a hit after home hope and reigning 10,000m Commonwealth champion Eilish McColgan was forced to withdraw on Saturday.

The 35-year-old has suffered an injury-laden season and after 10 weeks out with a toe injury sustained during the London Marathon, felt she had "simply run out of time" to prepare for her title defence.
