    Maybe the curse was real....

Seventy-five years of waiting. Countless near misses. Heartbreak after heartbreak.

At long last, Mayo have banished the ghosts of the past.

The Sam Maguire Cup is heading west once again as Andy Moran's side end one of the longest waits in Irish sport, writing themselves into GAA history with a famous All-Ireland final victory at Croke Park.

It wasn't the Kingdom's day at Croke Park.

Defending champions Kerry are left to wonder what might have been.

Jack O'Connor's side mounted a stirring late comeback and reduced the gap to just two points in the closing minutes, but crucial misses from David Clifford and Sean O'Shea proved costly as Mayo held their nerve.

The Kingdom's bid for successive All-Ireland titles comes to a painful end, with the final whistle bringing heartbreak for the green and gold after falling agonisingly short at Croke Park.

Congratulations to Mayo, it is some achievement. As a former Kerry player, it hurts a lot, but you have to witness this and accept it.

Mayo dominated from the start with their attitude and their desire. You can talk about all the tactics and stats but they wanted this.

It is an honour to be here today. 75 years wait; I can't put it into words.

There are people who have waited their whole lives for this day. It belongs to all of them.

What a moment for Gaelic football and sport. It is something else.

Incredible scenes in Croke Park as Mayo fans belt out the Green and Red of Matyo. They're 75-year wait is over, the pain if 11-straight final defeats banished.

They had to overcome adversity out there today and certainly didn't make it easy for themselves with missed chances, but they will not care one jot now.

Know little about the sport and teams...but am sports mad and was in Galway on holidays two weeks ago and was told about the curse. And what a win for County Mayo would mean. Go Mayo! Break the curse!

    Scott, Australia

Thought this might be a draw...not that confident now. Come on Kerry (but a tiny, tiny, small part would like to see the curse broken) Either way great match!

    Kerry 1-17 Mayo 1-19

Kerry are dominating possession as the clock ticks towards the final two minutes, but they can't capitalise.

David Clifford backs himself from outside the two-point arc on the right, only to see his ambitious effort drift wide.

A huge let-off for Mayo as time begins to run out for the Kingdom.
