Rory McIlroy looks like everything's just suddenly coming together just at the perfect time for him.

He's going be tough to beat if he keeps playing like this - he's just got such an advantage with his length as well.

    Veerman -13 (4)

Johannes Veerman, who is playing in the penultimate group has an eagle putt on the fourth. He hits it nicely but will have to suffice with a birdie after his ball comes to a stop about an inch from the cup.

What a shot that is. Rory McIlroy is playing out of the right rough on the seventh but lands his ball on a sixpence right next to the flag. It's kick-in range and it moves him within a shot of the lead, when he rolls in the birdie putt.

The earlier starters are having the benefit of those scoring holes right at the end of the round.

Those in the chasing pack will have that opportunity later on.

That's one of the most exciting dynamics that's always at play at this golf course.

  5. Postpublished at 13:47 BST 20 September

    Scott -11, McIlroy -12 (6)

Adam Scott drops a shot on six and does not look happy. There's a scrambling par save for Rory McIlroy, who gets up and down from the greenside bunker.

    Trish Johnson
Former Europe Solheim Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's just a sensational day for scoring.

I don't think in all my time watching golf I've ever known anything like 17 players within one shot come the middle of the last round - not even close.

    Aaron RaiImage source, PA Media

England's Aaron Rai came into the mainstream by winning the other PGA Championship in May, and is enjoying an encouraging front nine to put himself in contention.

His level par round on Saturday may end up costing him, but he has time on his side compared to some of the names towards the top of the leaderboard - who have finished, or are soon to finish, their final rounds.

  14. Postpublished at 13:23 BST 20 September

    Scott -12, McIlroy -12 (5)

Rory McIlroy has another birdie opportunity on the par-three fifth but that's a misread from the reigning Masters champion. Chance gone.

Rory McIlroy misses the dance floor left with his second into the par-five fourth. He's in the longer stuff but clips a beautiful chip to two feet for a good look at a birdie.

Here comes the putt and McIlroy moves within one shot of the lead.

And now Adam Scott follows suit. These two will fancy their chances of being right in contention later today.

  16. Alex Fitzpatrick motoringpublished at 13:06 BST 20 September

An eagle three on the 12th, followed by a birdie, has Alex Fitzpatrick six under for the day with five to play - and just one shot off the lead.

The Englishman, younger brother of Matt, has been steadily building to this round all week.

And Scotland's Robert MacIntyre is also on 12 under after starting his round with two birdies from four holes.

Italy's Filippo Celli is looking to become the first player to win the BMW PGA Championship on their tournament debut since An Byeong-hun in 2015.

The 26-year-old from Rome is yet to win on the DP World Tour but it would be some time to start if he managed it today.

He is just about to go out in the final pairing with Manuel Elvira.

  18. Fox flyingpublished at 13:05 BST 20 September

    M Fitzpatrick -9, Fox -13 (6)

Ryan Fox is right in the mix now. The open champion dispatches a 14-foot putt to head to 13 under overall and a share of the lead.

It's lookiong congested up there now.

  19. Luiten makes his movepublished at 13:01 BST 20 September

    Luiten -13 (14)

Has Wentworth become a little tamer today. Andy Sullivan is already in the clubhouse with an eight-under 64 and Joost Luiten, who has not won a DP World Tour event since 2018, is absolutely motoring.
