Tommy Fleetwood comes up a foot short with his putt at the fifth and has to settle for par on this occasion. A birdie for Jordan Spieth sees the American go to one over.
By the way, Sir Garfield Sobers (see 16:42) loved his golf.
He played off scratch for decades and also represented Barbados in the sport once upon a time.
This photo is from 1980 but the legendary West Indies all-rounder was still playing well into his old age.

All three of this group make it to the sixth green with birdie putts outside 25 feet to come.
Tyrrell Hatton is 40-odd feet away but judges the pace of his putt superbly. He's still one over for the day.
Scottie Scheffler does likewise to leave a tap-in par, as does Bryson DeChambeau.

Ryan Gerard is keeping himself in the equation today as he continues his impressive Open Championship debut.
He birdied two, and while he gave it right back at the next, he's just rolled in a lovely birdie putt at four to get back to four under.

When Rory McIlroy played at Birkdale in the 2017 Open, he recovered from an opening round of 71 to shoot 68 on the Friday, leaving him at one under par for the tournament. He went on to finish in a tie for fourth.
Nine years later, he's ended round two in exactly the same place, albeit in slightly different fashion.
On this occasion, yesterday's 72 has been improved by a 67 today.
The world number two is attempting to become the first man in history to win a major after ending the first round ranked as low as 85th.

Rory McIlroy speaking after a second-round 67:
"It was a little better. I felt like I had momentum coming off the end of the front nine there with the two birdies on 8 and 9.
"Look, I think the main objective today was to be here for the weekend, which I am. I felt like I left a couple out there. Then you look at the board and you see a couple of 62s, and you feel like you could have done a bit better."
On whether he thought he'd able to drive the ninth yesterday and today:
"No. Honestly, the practice rounds I played were in a completely different wind direction. I didn't even think about it. Then when I got on the tee yesterday and saw the wind, it was like, well, the corner on the right there to cover is like 335, and downwind it's like, as long as I just strike it well, that should be fine.
"Then today I got there again - honestly my gameplan was to hit it to the top of the hill and hit a wedge on and go from there, but sometimes opportunities present themselves and you have to take them."

After shooting a five-over-par 75 yesterday, Justin Rose needed a fast start today to boost his chances of making the cut.
The former US Open and Olympic champion has begun with seven straight pars, but he needs to start making birdies to extend his week at Royal Birkdale.

Bryson DeChambeau tries to use the downhill slope to get his third from out of the rough at the back of the green as close to the hole as possible, but he is left with a 12-footer for par... which slides just by.
That birdie on the fourth is handed straight back.
Tyrrell Hatton's birdie putt from eight feet horseshoes around the hole and stays up, but Scottie Scheffler secures his three and is now alongside DeChambeau on three under for the tournament.

After that birdie on 14, Bob MacIntyre isn't overly pleased with his shot into the par-three 15th.
It's safely on board but a good 30 feet away. Holing this would be a bonus. Not quite, but he nudges it up holeside and takes his par.
Two pars and a birdie on the par-five 17th would represent a good day's work for the Scot and will probably bank a late-ish tee time tomorrow.

The ball from Bryson DeChambeau's original tee shot has been found down the right side of the fifth hole.
There's some water and loads of big bushes there, so if he's got a decent lie then he's got a massive break.
He bunts it towards the green and it settles in the first cut behind the putting surface.
This would be some four if he can escape with a par here.

Tommy Fleetwood lands just under 22 feet from the pin with his tee shot at the par-three fourth hole.
Based on the previous hole his putter is starting to warm up and it gets hotter still as he drains one from the middle of the green into the hole to go three under.
The Englishman calmly raises his hands to acknowledge the crowd.

After a brilliant birdie at the fourth, Bryson DeChambeau's tee shot at the fifth goes miles right - maybe into the same area that Viktor Hovland was about 20 minutes ago.

Bob MacIntyre's had to be patient today after a fine opening 67 yesterday but he rolls in a lovely 21-footer for a four at the par-five 14th.
That's his first birdie of the day and he corrects the solitary dropped shot at the third.
Five off the lead and right in the mix.
