If you're making pars, you're making progress.

We've just turned into the wind, and this is probably stronger than it's blown all week longer. It's getting tougher and tougher.

Cameron Young may be feeling a little disappointed at the moment but I think his mood will continue to improve as the afternoon goes on.

Clubhouse leader Cameron Young has been speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about his chances: "I feel like I need some very good fortune for it to matter much. It’s hard enough out there but there’s a bunch of good players at seven, eight, nine under par. I wouldn’t expect to have any golf left to play today but we’ll see.

"If you’d asked me a number [at the start of the day], I would have said 10. Any time you’re leading a major championships, it’s hard. Sam [Burns] is a proven winner on PGA Tour, a great player in good form so I expect him to play well but it is hard.

"I’ll go in and watch for a little bit. I’ll be hanging around."

Part one done for Scottie Scheffler, with an aggressive par on 16 following that vicious drive. The wedge in isn't actually that good for him, just 11 feet, but he drains that and is now seven under with two holes to play.

The par-five 17th is next, the easiest hole on the course, followed by the hardest hole on the course in the 18th.

Tommy Fleetwood's dreams looked to have come crashing down around him with three straight bogeys. He's now made a par, can he get his head back in the game?

He's five off the lead with six holes left in his round - the crowd are all with him, can he get something going?

This is really gutsy stuff from Lucas Herbert, who follows his birdie at nine with another at the 10th and he moves to within two of Kim Si-woo.

Ryan Fox finds himself off the side of the ninth green in two. His first attempt at a chip onto the short grass doesn't make it up the bank and rolls back to his feet.

He holds his nerve to secure the bogey.

Sam Burns pars the hole but a two-over-par front nine was not what he had in mind when he began his final round as the tournament leader a couple of hours ago.

It was still a bit twitchy off the 12th tee for Tommy Fleetwood, not catching his iron shot flush so it came up well short, but with putter in hand he nurdles it up nicely close to the hole.

The par putt is sent home and that will just steady the ship after three bogeys on the trot. Now it's time for Tommy to step on the gas down the stretch.

Scottie Scheffler's had enough now, he needs to pick up three shots in three holes so despite it not being the usual play he's told his caddie to go fetch the big dog.

And he unleashes a monster down the 16th fairway and leaves 87 yards in - it's green lights all the way now so this will be aimed right at the pin.

Kim Si-woo finishes the front nine with a par.

He has a birdie chance at the ninth but his putt from 22 feet just breaks away at the last moment.

No golfer from Asia has ever won the Open, by the way.

Stick a fork in him he's done. He has got a birdie chance on 16 and eagle chance on 17 and he's the world number one so could do that.

But the putter's not working.

Not often Scottie Scheffler is so off target with his irons, but his tee shot on the 15th is poor, then his chip shot up the green is pretty shabby too, so it's 20 feet left to save his par and there's not many people who've seen him putt this week would put money on him making it.

Sure enough he misses for a huge bogey just at the wrong time. He's three off Cameron Young's clubhouse lead with three holes to play.

I make it that Bryson DeChambeau has hit just one fairway today.

That ultimately will catch up with him, even if, as he's just done again, he keeps saving par with steely putts.

Another four for DeChambeau at the 10th.

An important birdie for Lucas Herbert at the ninth!

He turns in level-par 34 and is only three shots back. The Australian definitely isn't out of this yet.

It's all going wrong for Tommy Fleetwood now as he gets out of position on the 11th and leaves himself 11 feet for a par. It doesn't drop and that's three bogeys in a row now and all the air just comes flying out of his tyres.

Still plenty of noise coming from the crowd but they're more of a supportive keep going kind than ones of true belief that their man can get this job done.

This is a huge test of his character now.

Every golfer looks back and thinks what could have been.

I guess Cameron Young will look and see what happens over the course of the day but every golfer thinks about what score they could have got to and what they should have got to.

It's not healthy, but we all do it!

There is little sanctuary for the world's best when they're walking the course at a major.

This is one rare spot: Birkdale's halfway house.

Tucked behind the ninth green, the hut is solely for the use of players and caddies, who can refuel before they attack the back nine.

No bacon butties, though. These athletes load up on protein bars, nuts and flapjacks to boost their energy levels.

There is also a fruit slush machine which provides a cooling drink packed with electrolytes.

Tommy Fleetwood and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen skip the snacks, but their caddies do grab some bits to throw in the bag.

Routine pars for the final group at the eighth.

Ryan Fox had made birdie at this hole in each of the first three rounds but he can't complete the quartet.

Cameron Young from the bunker again.

He nearly holes it! Fabulous effort. It burns the right edge of the cup and he'll have four feet for par.

Yes, in it goes. It's a closing bogey and a superb round of 64. The world number four sets the clubhouse target at nine under and he'll have an uncomfortable wait for a couple of hours.

Playing with Bob MacIntyre, the Scot's had a frustrating weekend. 71-71 and he finishes at two under, currently in a tie for 30th.

Scottie Scheffler has to work hard for his par on the 14th - the third easiest hole on the course but that's only if you can find the fairway and not the fairway bunker off the tee.

He has to just dig it out then hit the green with his third - and being 50 feet away he does well to get down in two from there and make his five.
