Rory McIlroy's had a complicated relationship with Royal Birkdale this week. His long game has been a joy to behold but he's struggled with the pace of the greens all week.
Today, he slammed home a 20-footer for birdie on two and made a superb three on the par-four sixth - the toughest hole this week - but he left the fifth hole frustrated after nearly driving the green and taking three from the edge of the green.
He's also just bogeyed the par-three seventh. Surely too far back.

Scottie Scheffler's putter has been like a block of ice this week, which has been the only thing stopping him from at least challenging and maybe even running away with this.
His driving has been great, his iron play right on point, but he just can't get anything to drop on the greens - even yesterday when he hit some good looking putts he hung a few in the jaws, burnt a few edges but made nothing.
He's 6/13 on putts between 5-10 feet and just 2/12 between 10-20 feet, and although they're pretty long putts they're easier to make on these slower links greens with not much wind.
Still, he has just teed off starting his day six back, if that putter heats up who knows.

What is the collected noun for a group of lawnmowers? A cut? A shave? A cutting?
A hooked drive off the first would find its way to the garage where the most important pieces of kit, as you would expect, are neatly lined up ready to hit the course at the crack of dawn each morning.
As is the modern way, they even have robo-mowers, full automated to keep the course’s flowing locks in check.
Over 100 staff and volunteers from BIGGA (British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association) help get the course ready each day.

- American Sam Burns followed his 62 on Friday with a five-under 65 and he led the Open by two shots with one round to play at Royal Birkdale.
- New Zealand's Ryan Fox became the third player this week to shoot 62 - the joint-lowest score ever in a men's major - to thrust himself into contention.
- After the drama of Friday's two-shot penalty, Bryson DeChambeau went round in 69 on Saturday and is four shots off the lead held by Burns.
- Tommy Fleetwood (-5), Scottie Scheffler (-4) and Jon Rahm (-4) all began in striking distance of the leaders and while they're all still in contention, they will need a special round on Sunday if they are going to lift the Claret Jug.
- Masters champion Rory McIlroy shot 69 to be two under for the tournament - before having his say on the two-shot penalty imposed on DeChambeau the previous day. Drama!

Here we go folks! It's Sunday at the Open Championship but who will be getting their hands on the Claret Jug this evening?
We've had just about everything so far, from record low scores to headline-making penalties, to some choice comments between two of the world's best players.
Tommy Fleetwood is looking to thrill the home crowds while Bryson DeChambeau will be battling to prove a point - if he finishes within two shots of the lead we'll no doubt hear plenty about it.
Rory McIlroy is out on the course right now so we'll bring you updates from his round, and bring you up to speed on all the goings on so far at Royal Birkdale.
So what in the world will happen today? The way this week has gone on the Southport coast, absolutely nothing would surprise us...
