  8. 'Antonelli had free hit this year'published at 14:33 GMT

Brilliant season by Kimi Antonelli and well overdue for Italy. He's shown George Russell a clean pair of heels all season, and he's the deserved world champion.

I think Antonelli has almost had a bit of a free hit this year. He's so young, he hasn't experienced in his life or career any massive adversity. OK, he had that crash at Monza when he was coming up and Toto Wolff put his arm around him, and he then got the seat.

He had a slightly difficult period last year, but he's not had to overcome any major crashes, anything difficult in his personal life, so I think that has kind of helped him.

As brilliant as he's been, there has been a kind of beauty in the naivety of it all.

The drivers' title is sewn up, and the constructors' may well be on Sunday, but Formula 1 marches restlessly, relentlessly on.

This weekend's Sao Paulo Grand Prix is in many ways the first page of the first chapter of the next championship battle.

New world champion Kimi Antonelli says he sees the final races of the season as preparation to defend his title in 2027, and his vanquished Mercedes team-mate George Russell is working on understanding where things went wrong, with the aim of putting them right.

The team's main target this weekend is securing the three points more than Ferrari they need to lock away the constructors' championship, to underline their return to the form they showed for so long in the 2010s.

Mercedes' rivals, meanwhile, are continuing the work that has seen them turn what was a chasm in performance at the beginning of the year into a highly competitive battle between the top four teams at the end.

The season has been in two parts. Mercedes dominated the first third, winning seven of the first eight races.

Since then, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull have all had their time in the sun, and out of the past 12 races, Mercedes have won six, Red Bull three, McLaren two and Ferrari one.

Only the beginnings of a competitive picture have emerged in Sao Paulo, with Antonelli and Lando Norris in an upgraded McLaren initially appearing in good shape in Friday practice, but beyond that there are a number of running narratives to maintain the interest.

The lights have gone green. Time for final practice.

However, it is all quiet on track as all 22 drivers are still in their garages.

  11. What is the Sao Paulo weather forecast?published at 14:29 GMT

We could be in for a rainy weekend in Sao Paulo.

Final practice on Saturday is expected to feature a mix of light rain and sunny intervals and the rain could continue during the fight for pole position in qualifying.

For Sunday's grand prix, which starts at 2pm local time, light rain and a moderate breeze is expected with a high of 17C.

I think the journey for Kimi [Antonelli] has been incredible. We spoke during FP2 about that first outing in Monza and putting it in the wall and all the pressure that came upon him as a result of that.

People saying he wasn't ready. He has had an amazing year of silencing the voices. But, also, he has driven so well. There aren't really many things this season that you point to as mistakes he has made.

The one bad weekend you'd point out would be in Azerbaijan, but other than that he has had an absolutely splendid season.

  14. Norris and Antonelli fastest on Fridaypublished at 14:21 GMT

Lando Norris was the fastest driver in first practice. The McLaren driver finished the session ahead of Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen in the Red Bull.

In second practice, Antonelli, Verstappen and Norris again took the top three. Antonelli topped the leaderboard, followed by Norris and Verstappen.

Will those three drivers make the top three again in final practice?

  15. What Mercedes need to secure constructors' championshippublished at 14:19 GMT

For Mercedes to win the constructors' championship in Interlagos, they will need to outscore Ferrari by at least three points.

The Silver Arrows lead Ferrari by 126 points and there will be a maximum of 129 available after Sao Paulo.

This would be Mercedes' ninth constructors' championship victory after winning the title eight years in a row between 2014 and 2021.
