If McLaren don’t take advantage of the four-six drivers with penalties this weekend, that is a failed race. Your target with a new upgrade and this situation is a double podium.

  3. Problems for Aston Martinpublished at 15:08 GMT

Lance Stroll was asked to pit a few moments ago, and Aston Martin have said that was because of an energy recovery system (ERS) issue.

And I bring that up, not because it's surprising that a Honda engine has reliability issues in the context of this season, but if you remember a week ago in Mexico City, after Aston Martin had looked to be quite competitive in practice before problems in qualifying, both drivers retired from the race more or less at the same time because of an ERS issue, which Honda have applied a fix for, or thought they had, for this race.

But it seems like it's not properly fixed yet.

No, never mind. He has just been on the radio to say he can see smoke in the cockpit and returns to the garage.

The Sao Paulo Grand Prix will be staying on the F1 calendar until at least 2035 following a new five-year contract extension.

Brazil’s iconic Interlagos circuit has been around for more than 50 years and has crowned six world champions, including those titles won by current drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.

Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali said Brazil is "an important part of Formula 1’s history".

"The continued success and excitement surrounding the event shows why it holds such a special place on our calendar, and this agreement underlines our long-term commitment to Brazil," Domenicali added.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will all have grid penalties at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Verstappen will start from the back of the grid while Hamilton and Leclerc will both have 10-place penalties. They join Mercedes driver George Russell in having an penalties for using too many engine parts. Russell's drop is only five places.

Verstappen will have an all-new engine fitted after Red Bull discovered problems after Friday practice. Leclerc, Hamilton and Russell have all fitted new internal combustion engines.

The penalties for the Ferrari drivers are bigger than Russell's because it is the first time they have exceeded the limit of four engines per season, while Russell had already gone beyond that.
