Hmm, where has our fast-paced football gone, ever since Klopp left. We have lost the edge, our passing and our tactics are so predictable, lacking any urgency. If we can beat Athletico then we should be able to do the same with teams like Fulham. Very poor performance.

    Chris, Dorset

Liverpool dismal today. No fire, no urgency and unable to pass to a red shirt. Its going to be a long season if this is the kind of rubbish that’s going to be dished up.

    Eric, Gran Canaria

It’s going to be a long season for us (Liverpool). This was always going to be a transitional year and I don’t understand why certain other teams that have been in “transition” for fifteen years are fine but if we aren’t winning every game there’s a crisis. Bizarre

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "When you draw, especially at home, you can't be happy. Today we lacked a bit of freshness and we did not do enough offensively to make the difference.

"We have been good enough to keep the clean sheet. It was slightly better in the second half. In the first half we started the game slow, we lacked energy and it was not enough, we have to be offensively better.

"It is less than three days, 60 hours, [since they played Atletico Madrid in the Champions League] and a lot of players had to adapt. Most of the changes were for physical reasons because the players were tired, but that is the season and in less than three days we will be here against Spurs [in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday].

"We have to adapt and find ways to win."

On Bradley Barcola: "Bradley is one we are building up physically with games and the games will give him the condition we want. But it is not just Bradley, we lack the freshness. I only remember one clear chance [for Fulham] and we kept the structure but offensively we need to do much better."

Time for Spurs to stop the rot?

  5. Everton thin on the groundpublished at 17:28 BST 12 September

    Tottenham v Everton (17:30 BST)

Winger Tyrique George was perhaps the Toffees' standout performer against Manchester United last week. He initially impressed on the left before switching to the right to make room for substitute Jack Grealish and promptly scored his first goal for the club to level affairs at 1-1.

It is the kind of individual performance from a relatively inexperienced youngster that Everton will need this season given their squad currently consists of 18 outfield players.

It's not an ideal scenario for David Moyes' men, lacking such squad depth. But if anyone can get something out of these players you would back Moyes.

Ipswich Town forward Zian Flemming speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's a great feeling to win, and to score the winner is even better. They had a phase in the second half - regardless of being down to 10 men - where they were the dominant side, and they rewarded themselves with a goal as well. Luckily we turned it around as we shouldn't really be in that situation in the first place."

On his low-key celebration: "I can't really predict how I'm going to celebrate. I felt quite calm in the moment for some reason."

On the win: "Every point is precious. It is not easy to win in the Premier League, especially away from home. We were playing against 10 man for a big part of the game so we should have comeYo away with three points as well. They are all helping towards the end goal."

  7. Richarlison saga continuespublished at 17:25 BST 12 September

    Tottenham v Everton (17:30 BST)

As if things were not bad enough on the pitch for Tottenham, off it the saga with Brazilian forward Richarlison continues.

His proposed move to Vasco da Gama fell through yesterday and personal terms over the deal are understood to have emerged as an issue.

The Brazilian transfer window closed on Friday night.

Richarlison was left out of Tottenham's Premier League squad after his proposed £35m deadline-day move to former club Everton broke down, also over a disagreement on personal terms.

On Thursday, BBC Sport reported that Richarlison and Spurs were in a dispute over the remaining nine months on his contract.

Spurs boss Roberto de Zerbi did not provide any update on Richarlison's future at a news conference on Friday but the player is understood to be exploring his options.

For now, he is training with the under-21's.

I’m sure there’ll be a lot of disappointed fans out there today, especially given they were hoping to challenge for the title, but it’s a long season and I have faith that Hull can put that draw behind them and get their title charge back on track.

    Tottenham v Everton (17:30 BST)

The last time Tottenham faced Everton, it was the last day of the 2025-26 season and Spurs needed to win to stay in the Premier League.

Fast forward a few months, they have spent a net total of around £160m in the summer transfer window, bringing in 10 players. But things don't look a great deal different at the moment.

Will Everton provide the opportunity to turn things around again?

I just think the momentum ebbed and flowed. I think Bournemouth will be frustrated not to have gotten the three points. It was obviously a bit of a calamity at the back.

They had a lot more chances in that second half Bournemouth to obviously get the three points. Brentford probably feel lucky to come out with a point.

  11. 'The draw specialists of the Premier League'published at 17:20 BST 12 September

    FT: Bournemouth 2-2 Brentford

    Marc Webber
BBC Final Score commentator at the Vitality Stadium

It was Bournemouth Manager Marco Rose’s 50th birthday yesterday.

The players were supposed to give him a present.

Instead, Bournemouth keeper Dorde Petrovic gifted the ball to Brentford’s Kevin Schade who sent the ball looping over Pertrovic 56 minutes in, to hand Brentford a draw.It was end-to-end, and a share of the spoils is far and becoming a norm for these two sides. They're becoming the draw specialists of the Premier League.

  12. 'We were the best team'published at 17:19 BST 12 September

    FT: Bournemouth 2-2 Brentford

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Marco Rose speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We were behind for the first time this season, we reacted well, and lucky me, we didn't concede a late goal. We had more chances, more possession, we were the best team.

"Brentford is a tough opponent, they are good for second balls and have quite big guys and ballers as well. I liked how we competed, the way we defended in most situations. I like the way we attacked, our attitude. We were unlucky in a couple of situations, so we just get a point."

On goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic's mistake for the Brentford equaliser: "It is about how we react. We are a team, we do mistakes together. Even at 2-2, I think we can win the game. So now we go for Thursday [in the Europa League], that is a big thing for the club."

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Hull

    Joel Ward
Former Crystal Palace defender on Radio 5 Live

It was an eventful game. Both teams have shown a great account of themselves. I'm really impressed with Hull's defensive duties that they covered, as well as the resilience and character that they showed from start to finish. To go a goal down to Chelsea early on, then fight themselves back into the lead and fight all the way to the end.

Even after conceding the equaliser, they still created chances down the left-hand side and there were some big, big moments that could have seen them go on and put themselves at the top of the league.

  14. 'We can be very happy'published at 17:15 BST 12 September

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Hull

    Hull City

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Sport: "I feel good. We have to be happy. It’s a huge result for us.

"We had 2-1 at half-time and we had a 100% chance with McBurnie but Martinez's save was excellent. We have to control play better in the box because we can stop this [Chelsea goal]. We had an excellent chance for Cho – Martinez saved again. Player of the match.

"We can be very happy. We took a point in a very demanding match.

"Eight points against very difficult opponents. We have to continue like this."

On Nobel Mendy's head injury, he said: "He went to hospital for a scan. He's dizzy and disorientated. We’ll see. It’s a concussion 100%."

  15. 'We need to build on this'published at 17:12 BST 12 September

FT: Aston Villa 1-2 Nottingham Forest

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest's Igor Jesus, who scored the 88th-minute winner: "It's our first win in the Premier League this season and we know how important it is for us. It's very important for us and we need to keep it going. I just want to say thank you to everyone who came to support us today."

  16. LLD v WDDpublished at 17:10 BST 12 September

    Tottenham v Everton (17:30 BST)

Many were tipping Tottenham for big things this season. But it has been far from the start Roberto de Zerbi would have wanted from his side.

Two losses and a draw means they are yet to get a win on the board this season and sit in the relegation zone.

Everton are going well but Spurs will surely see this as a big opportunity to turn things around at home?

  17. 'De Zerbi needs to take bit of responsibility'published at 17:08 BST 12 September

    Tottenham v Everton (17:30 BST)

    Chris Sutton

This is absolutely massive for Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi. First and foremost, though, he needs to take a bit of responsibility for his side's poor results.

He blamed the Spurs strikers after their 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest, but at least he has got some in his squad.

I just find it wild that in a billion-dollar industry, which football is now, Everton got themselves in a position where they let Beto leave, knowing there was a possibility that Folarin Balogun might fail his medical and without having anyone else lined up.

Could they still go to Spurs and nick something? Absolutely. I am still not sure whether Tottenham being at home counts as an advantage.

But this game has a draw written all over it, and is actually an easy game to predict.

Spurs are a 'law of averages' team, or at least that's the way I see it. Eventually they have to score and eventually they have to win too, but I don't see both things happening this weekend.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1
