  1. goal

GOAL Benfica 4-0 Heart of Midlothianpublished at 21:17 BST 6 August

    Gianluca Prestianni

Oh dear, Hearts lose possession and the fourth is gloriously dispatched by Gianluca Prestianni.

Yes, Benfica have been a cut above, but Hearts have gifted them these goals.

That was Pierre Landry Kabore and Tom Renaud, who both gave the ball away near their own box.

  2. Postpublished at 21:11 BST 6 August

    Benfica 3-0 Heart of Midlothian

Jamie McCart clears the ball off the line with an unbelievably composed back heel, but Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis was flagged offside in the build up.

Close to a fourth for the hosts - and it would have counted if it had gone to VAR.

  3. Postpublished at 21:08 BST 6 August

    Hibernian 0-0 Shkendija

    That's poor from Felix Passlack.

The Hibs defender chests the ball down on the edge of the Shkendija box but smashes his strike well over the bar.

  4. Postpublished at 21:07 BST 6 August

    Benfica 3-0 Heart of Midlothian

Hearts have swapped to a back-three, with Calvin Miller moved to left wing-back.

He is instrumental in the first half-chance of the game, as he works it down the left and crosses deep for Alexandros Kyziridis - now playing off the right.

Jordi Altena has an effort on goal, but the right-back's shot is easy for the goalkeeper. Still, encouraging.

  5. ouch!

    Ouch!published at 21:05 BST 6 August

    Hibernian 0-0 Shkendija

A very early stoppage in play while Jovan Manev receives some treatment.

There was a coming together between the Shkedija defender and Hibs' Nathan Lowe, but it doesn't look too serious.

  6. KICK OFF SECOND HALFpublished at 21:04 BST 6 August

    Benfica 3-0 Heart of Midlothian

Tom Renaud is on for Laurent Mendy in Hearts' midfield and Jamie McCart on for Harry Milne in defence.

We'll see what that does to the formation. Either way, second half is under way, as it is at Easter Road.

  7. Benfica heading for record?published at 21:02 BST 6 August

    Andy Halliday
Former Hearts midfielder on BBC Sportsound

I read that Hearts' biggest defeat in Europe was that 5-0 by Tottenham.

There is no way that will not be surpassed unless the manager makes changes at half-time.

The two up front are trying to occupy the defensive midfielder, but once it past them, there are defending with nine men.

  8. Europe can be almighty cursepublished at 20:58 BST 6 August

HT: Benfica 3-0 Heart of Midlothian

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

You'd fear for Hearts if Benfica have the same intensity and will for attack in the second half.

Europe can be a blessing, but it can be an almighty curse.

They want to get there, but their season can be derailed almost immediately.

If this was a boxing match, you would be throwing in the towel.

  9. Damage limitation?published at 20:55 BST 6 August

HT: Benfica 3-0 Heart of Midlothian

    Brian McLauchlin
    BBC Sport Scotland in Lisbon

After a stunning 45 minutes by Benfica, there is a real threat that Hearts' record European defeat could go this evening.

It was 16 years ago when Harry Redknapp brought his star studded Tottenham Hotspur to Tynecastle and left with a 5-0 win under their belt.

Time after time, the Hearts defence has been ripped apart and, if not for goalkeeper Beau Reus, that record may already have been broken.

This is surely about damage limitation in the second half for Hearts. Especially with a crucial home game on Sunday against Dundee United.

The duality of a Hearts fan...

As a Hearts fan, despite the scoreline there's plenty to be hopeful for when we aren't up against one of the best sides in Europe.

What a shambles. Vrancken hasn’t a clue how to set up a team defensively. This could be anything Benfica want it to be.

  11. HALF-TIME Benfica 3-0 Heart of Midlothianpublished at 20:50 BST 6 August

A bruising 45 minutes comes to an end.

It started quickly, Hearts conceded after only two minutes and, although they somewhat eventually solidified - the visitors even hitting the bar, a late penalty really put the game beyond doubt.

Another 45 minutes to come and who knows how many it might be by the final whistle.

  12. HALF-TIME Hibernian 0-0 Shkendijapublished at 20:49 BST 6 August

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Easter Road

Hibernian seem to be caught in the middle of trying to dominate and earn and advantage or prioritising not conceding.

It feels somewhere in the middle with chances few and far between. Owen Elding had the best effort from distance just wide, but you might have expected a bit more drive and quality.

Work to do in this first leg to gain a vital advantage.

  13. Postpublished at 20:48 BST 6 August

    Hibernian 0-0 Shkendija

They're at the end of the one-minute of stoppage time at Easter Road and Martin Boyle has his hands in the air feeling he should have been awarded a penalty.

The Hibs forward goes down in the box under what looks like a little shove from Arbin Zejnullai, but the referee is having none of it and that will be the last action of the half.

  14. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 20:47 BST 6 August

    Benfica 3-0 Heart of Midlothian

Benfica have the ball in the back of the net, but the flag is up.

Gianluca Prestianni skips to the byline and cuts it back to Leandro Barreiro. His shot is goalbound but flicked in by Vangelis Pavlidis, who is in an offside position.

Hearts have gotten a little lucky there.

  15. Too many spaces in midfieldpublished at 20:45 BST 6 August

    Benfica 3-0 Heart of Midlothian

    Andy Halliday
Former Hearts midfielder on BBC Sportsound

It's reminiscent of the game I played for Hearts away to Fiorentina in the Conference League.

We were 4-0 down at half-time. We got a pretty stern talk from Robbie Neilson about changes we had to make in the second half.

Hearts cannot continue the way they're playing out of possession. There can't be this many spaces in the midfield.

  16. Postpublished at 20:43 BST 6 August

    Hibernian 0-0 Shkendija

Superb defending from Miguel Chaiwa, who gets a foot in the way to send Fabrice Tamba's shot behind for a corner.

It's cleared behind for another Shkendija corner, which Hibs eventually get clear.

But the hosts are coming under a wee bit of pressure in these closing stages of the first half.

  17. goal

GOAL BENFICA 3-0 Heart of Midlothianpublished at 20:42 BST 6 August

    Vangelis Pavlidis

The big Greek up against the big Dutchman... and Vangelis Pavlidis goes straight down the middle. Absolutely drilled it.

As good as Benfica have been in spells, Hearts have gifted them a couple of these goals.

  18. PENALTYpublished at 20:41 BST 6 August

    Benfica 2-0 Heart of Midlothian

Gianluca Prestianni tries to scamper on to a backheel in the box and Laurent Mendy pulls him down.

It's really poor from the midfielder, who has had a not bad game up until now.

  19. Postpublished at 20:40 BST 6 August

    Hibernian 0-0 Shkendija

Great pressing from Owen Elding almost forces a mistake from Shkendija goalkeeper Ferat Ramani.

He manages to get it clear and the visitors win a free-kick just inside their own half, but it comes to nothing.

Without question this has been Hearts best spell in the game. A bit concerned they may have upset Benfica however.
