The transfer window is everything that's wrong with football: teams scrambling around to fill out their squads with average journeymen/untried youngsters from bigger clubs.

Why not trust the squad you have or promote from your academy if you're short?

I'm a Hibby with zero interest in us getting someone on loan from Stoke or Charlton until Christmas.

    Play the academy players!

Dundee manager Stephen Pressley has told me that he "believes their business is done."

No more ins and, crucially, no outs.

That's a bonus amid some interest in their midfielder Ethan Hamilton.

  6. Wait... this isn't midnight?published at 12:18 BST

No, indeed it is not. This year, the Scottish transfer deadline is at the much more sociable hour of 17:00 BST.

But why, given the most major league windows shut nearly 48 hours ago?

Well, the decision of when the window shuts is ultimately down to the Scottish FA, but it is chosen with feedback directly from clubs and with plenty of notice.

A working group through the SPFL which collates input from clubs, and this year the feeling was they wanted extra time after the main leagues closed.

As we all know, so much of Scotland's transfer business is done later in the window.

Given the budgets involved, quite often things need to move further up the chain before deals fall into place, allowing a player to be freed up... and loaned out to the SPFL club of choice.

Remember, clubs are still allowed to sell and release players when their window is shut, meaning Scottish sides could take advantage of swollen squads looking to offload.

    Sorted? Magic.

  7. So Raskin's going nowhere... again?published at 12:11 BST

This time last year, my colleague Nick McPheat and I were guiding you through the final hours of last summer's window.

One of the big stories that day was the future of Nicolas Raskin - was he staying or going?

Today, one of the biggest stories is once again the future of Nicolas Raskin - is he staying or going?

Despite the swirling speculation, Raskin started for Rangers in their 2-1 win over Falkirk last night.

It remains to be seen whether Besiktas will come back in with a bid that meets Rangers' valuation.

Rangers have rejected another bid from Besiktas for Belgium international Nico Raskin.

The Turkish club made an initial loan offer for the player yesterday and have followed this up with a permanent bid.

Rangers have rejected that too, though, as it doesn't meet their valuation of the midfielder.
