Andoni Iraola has been speaking about Curtis Jones and whether he tried to convince the England midfielder to stay at Anfield.

The Liverpool boss said "Curtis is a very good player but I understood his situation" and added "it looks like it is going to happen" in terms of his move to Inter.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca on reported talks with Spurs over Omar Marmoush:

"I don't know. Omar is still here, still with us. Different situation than with Savinho. We'll see what happens."

Asked whether Marmoush's potential departure creates a difficulty in needing to find another striker in the remaining 11 days of the window:

"I think it's always complicated when players leaving and someone has to arrive. But we see if Omar stays or we see what happens. For sure, we are going to have more options in case players go out. If they go out, someone has to arrive."

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola on the possibility of signing more players before the transfer window closes: "As a manager, it is an easy one for me. I wanted the players for the first day of pre-season, with every position covered and top-level players throughout, you know?

"But you understand how the competition works, that the market is open when you start the season. We have to adapt as coaches to this situation because there is a lot of uncertainty. Not just at Liverpool, but everywhere, because the market is open. But we have to adapt.

"Honestly, I don't spend too much time thinking about these things. I know that you will spend a lot of time asking me about the market and this, but I am focused on the game against Newcastle. That is massive for me.

"You have seen the very good players that we have right now in the building, so we can be competitive from the beginning."

"It's complicated when the player is thinking they need a new challenge or want to change because they want probably to go back to Spain, or play more minutes - for different reasons. It's complicated to convince them to stay."

Andoni Iraola is asked about his feelings ahead of taking charge of Liverpool for the first time in the Premier League: "I feel excited. I can feel it even in the atmosphere when we train with the players, you feel like this week is a little bit different. We have been preparing for friendlies - but this is much different. I'm looking forward to being there on Sunday, feeling the pressure and starting a competition that we like."

The new Liverpool boss says he is excited for the new season and was asked about transfers.

He says the situation is ongoing with Curtis Jones' move to Inter Milan but refused to speak about players like Bradley Barcola because they aren't Liverpool players

Iraola did say it is clear they don't have enough players on the wing and want to improve the squad.

Enzo Maresca is facing the media for the first time before taking charge of a Premier League game for Manchester City and the manager has plenty to ponder.

The Italian suffered a chastening opening game as his City side were humbled 3-0 by champions Arsenal in the Community Shield last week.

Maresca has not had much time to work with the players that returned late following the World Cup and it looks like being a busy time during the remaining days in the transfer window.

Savinho and Omar Marmoush both look like they will be joining Tottenham and there are question marks over the future of midfielder Nico Gonzalez.

It means there will be incomings, with City seemingly closing in on the signing of Lille's Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi and holding an interest in Bournemouth's Alex Scott as well as Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister.

How many will leave and how many will come in? Let's wait and see if Maresca gives anything away.

"That's part of our identity, that's part of my job here.

"We also know that good achievements, big achievements, especially in the Premier League, you create offers, you create a lot of attention and so therefore we have to wait now."

Fabian Hurzeler spoke about the rumours linking Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba with a move to Manchester United: "He is our player and I will never comment on any rumours that are currently in the media. It's also something I definitely can't control."

The boss added that Baleba won't be playing on Sunday because he is "unfit" - the Cameroon midfielder picked up an ankle injury in pre-season.
