It has felt for a couple of seasons Manchester United could do with an experienced back-up striker to a younger first choice.

Ollie Watkins has previously been mentioned in United circles but I’m not sure it would happen this summer.

It seems a combination of Marcus Rashford not moving as anticipated and Manuel Ugarte's injury blocking a likely summer exit are forcing United to think seriously about their transfer strategy.

If Joshua Zirkzee leaves for Italy, I think it would come down to a choice between a left-back and a forward. The former would seem more obvious.

Ayyoub Bouaddi impressed at this summer's World Cup - starting five of Morocco's six matches in their run to the quarter-finals - after a starring role in Lille's Champions League victory over Real Madrid in 2024 announced him on the big stage.

He functions as a deep-lying conductor and would complement Elliot Anderson, who is comfortable as a box-to-box midfielder as well as the number six role he plays for England.

Making his debut in October 2023 - three days after his 16th birthday - Bouaddi has played 88 times for Lille and helped them finish third in Ligue 1 last season.

He broke a record held by Eden Hazard after making 50 league appearances for Lille at the age of just 18.

Manchester City have agreed a deal in principle worth 100m euros (£85.6m) to sign 18-year-old Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.

BBC Sport reported earlier this week that the two clubs were in advanced talks over a deal for the Morocco international to join City.

An agreement for the teenager to join Enzo Maresca's side is now in place, with Bouaddi now set to complete his protracted move to England with Lille accepting an initial fee of £81.4m, plus £4.2m in add-ons.

Having sold midfielders Rodri to Barcelona in a £65m deal and Tijjani Reinders to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah for £52m, City have prioritised central midfield as an area to strengthen.

They remain interested in Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez but it remains to be seen whether a deal can be struck.

They have already added England's Elliot Anderson for £116m from Nottingham Forest.

One team that are almost certain to add to their squad before the transfer deadline is Manchester City.

Bournemouth's signing of Di Gregorio is significant as it signals that Marco Rose's side have largely completed their transfer business this summer, barring any surprises.

They have signed striker Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche, defender Antonio Silva from Benfica and full-back Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla on permanent deals.

However, keeping hold of key players such as midfielder Alex Scott, who was the subject of a £64m bid from Chelsea, and forward Eli Junior Kroupi has also been important.

Bournemouth wanted to keep their strongest possible squad together as they prepare for their first European campaign in the Europa League.

Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio on loan from Juventus.

The 29-year-old will provide competition for number one Djordje Petrovic and step in should the Serb lose form or suffer an injury.

The Cherries will not pay a loan fee but will cover the Italian's full salary. They are also due to pay a £1m penalty fee if they do not trigger the option to buy him for £12m, plus a further £2.5m in add-ons.

Gregorio is an Inter Milan youth product who has spent his entire career in Italy, going from the third division on loan at Renate to Serie A with Monza in 2020, before joining Juventus in 2024.

Tottenham aren't the only club to have completed a transfer this morning.

Bournemouth have added an experienced goalkeeper to their ranks in what could be their final piece of business of the summer.

Savinho's involvement for City fell sharply last season after the club signed winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in January.

He played 821 Premier League minutes, scoring once and providing one assist, while featuring in only 31% of City's available minutes across all competitions.

That was a significant drop from the previous campaign, when he played 54% of City's minutes.

Yet his 2024-25 numbers show why Tottenham are prepared to invest heavily in him. Savinho registered eight Premier League assists that season, all from open play, despite playing only 1,773 minutes. Only five players recorded more from open play.

On a per-90 basis, he ranked third for open-play assists with 0.41, while only Mohamed Salah created more chances per 90 than Savinho's 2.2.

His biggest threat, though, came from carrying the ball. Among Premier League players with at least 1,000 minutes in 2024-25, only Jeremy Doku averaged more progressive carries of at least 10 metres than Savinho's 6.8 per 90.

Savinho also led the division for carries followed by a chance created, averaging 1.3 per 90, while only Son Heung-min ended a carry with an assist more frequently.

He completed 2.6 dribbles per 90 with a 51% success rate and used those carries to draw defenders towards him before releasing team-mates.

That ability was even more evident during his breakout season at Girona. Savinho played 2,989 minutes in La Liga in 2023-24, with 65% of them coming on the left wing. He scored nine goals, supplied eight assists and established himself as one of the division's most dangerous one-against-one players.

At City his role shifted. Across his two Premier League seasons, his most common position was on the right, accounting for 36% of his minutes, compared with 20% on the left. That versatility could matter at Spurs.

Tottenham's sporting director Johan Lange said he is "delighted" the club have been able to sign Savinho from Manchester City.

"He has already shown his quality at the highest level, and we believe his ability, style and mentality will be a great fit for the squad we are building here," said Lange.

"I know he will excite our supporters every time he gets on the ball and I'm looking forward to watching his development under Roberto's coaching."

Chris, Essex: Are Spurs any closer to signing Marmoush and Savinho?

Savinho's move to Tottenham has just been confirmed and Manchester City have managed to do a piece of remarkable business there by getting up to £85m for a player that has scored only two Premier League goals in as many seasons.

They remain in advanced talks to sell Egypt forward Omar Marmoush to Spurs, and sources with knowledge of the situation say there is a "good chance" the deal gets completed before the 1 September transfer deadline.

Discussions are ongoing between the two clubs and there are some details yet to be agreed.

Savinho has hailed Roberto De Zerbi as one of the "best managers in the world" after the forward completed his move from Manchester City to Tottenham.

Speaking to the Tottenham Hotspur website after signing with the 2025 Europa League winners, the Brazil international said: "It's taken a while but I'm very happy to be here.

"It's a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.

"As soon as I spoke to the head coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team."
