On the first weekend of the Premier League season, Harvey Elliott was left out of the Liverpool squad entirely for their trip to Newcastle and it now looks increasingly likely that the 23-year-old could be on his way out before the transfer window ends.

Liverpool have received no offers for Elliott - who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa - and his exclusion from the squad on Sunday was not transfer related, nor is the midfielder carrying an injury.

Elliott's contract expires next summer and if first-team football is not possible at Liverpool he needs to go somewhere where it is, to avoid another lost season.

Arsenal are in advanced talks with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal over the sale of Gabriel Martinelli for at least £50m.

The Brazil international, 25, is free to leave the club this summer, with manager Mikel Arteta making it clear the attacker is not in his plans.

Discussions between the clubs have intensified in the last 24 hours, with a deal now close.

If a final agreement is reached, it will be up to Martinelli - who has already turned down a move to Galatasaray - to decide whether he wants to play in the Saudi Pro League.

The wage package Al-Hilal are offering is also understood to be significantly more than his reported £180,000-per-week deal at Arsenal.

Toby, Welwyn: Have Arsenal got enough or is another signing likely?

Arsenal could go into the season with what they have already. They have incredible depth in most positions and that has been strengthened by the arrivals of Ezri Konsa, Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis.

However, they are still in the market for a forward and are monitoring the situation with Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid.

Nottingham Forest are working on a deal to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap.

The 23-year-old has been made available for sale by Chelsea for £50m and is training separately from the first-team squad.

It remains unclear whether the talks are over a permanent transfer or a loan move, but the two clubs are known to have a positive working relationship.

Delap was left out of Chelsea's squad for Monday's Premier League match against Fulham and lost the number nine shirt to fellow forward Joao Pedro last week.

His potential departure comes just over 12 months after moving to Stamford Bridge for £30m from Ipswich Town, but he ended the season with just one league goal after shoulder and hamstring injuries.

Chazz, Aberaeron: Any news on more Palace signings? Tough job for anyone replacing Glasner, who gave us the best period in our history, feels like just avoiding relegation should be our aim for this season & then start building and improving towards better times once that's achieved.

It does feel like a very difficult job for Pierre Sage. Glasner gave Palace the best time in the clubs history and following that up in a period of transition is nearly impossible.

Palace will look to bring in a senior defender and that could need to be two incomings after the injury to Chadi Riad.

They have built depth in the squad but the situation with Jean Philippe-Mateta means that he could be a big outgoing.

Palace signed Jorgen Strand Larsen as his replacement in January when it looked like he was going to AC Milan so I don't neccessarily think him leaving, if he does, would see another striker come in.

BBC Sport understands Coventry City are closing in on a deal for Brentford centre-back Ethan Pinnock.

The 33-year-old Jamaica international, who joined from Barnsley in 2019, is in the final year of his contract with the Bees.

He has made a total of 216 appearances for the West London club, scoring 12 times.

Pinnock played a vital role in Brentford's promotion to the Premier League but has since lost his place in their starting XI, featuring just eight times last season.

He would be the Sky Blues' ninth signing of the summer and second defensive reinforcement following the arrival of Aurele Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt in July.

So what does football agent Alex Levack think is going to happen in the last week of the window? And more importantly, how does he cope with it all?

He predicts Liverpool, Man City and Spurs will all do "more business" and thinks "there will still be a lot of movement".

"There will be a lot of conversations that may have been had earlier in the window," he tells BBC Newsbeat.

"And as we get closer to that deadline people either come down on their valuations or clubs might think we really need this player so we will pay that level of transfer fee.

Levack describes it as "squeaky bum time" and a bit like a "game of chess" waiting to see who will blink first.

"It’s mad, it's literally the phones are going all the time, it's moving parts," he says.

"What I always liken it to is a chain in a house buying process.

"Once a player moves it just opens up and it’s a massive domino effect and it just goes crazy."

With the futures of Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta still up in the air, BBC Newsbeat's got the agent's perspective on this summer's transfer window.

Alex Levack, who's been an agent for 26 years and represents Arsenal defender Ben White, agrees "there's definitely been a lot more drama".

"In more recent years Premier league clubs have been a lot more open to trading with other Premier League clubs which I think has been quite apparent in this window," he says.

"Drama wise, it’s great for the neutral."

Levack says the Watkins' one is "a real tough situation for both parties" because moves to Saudi Arabia "can be generational, or two generations worth of wealth".

"Whenever we sit down with clients we always ask them what’s your end game," he says.

"Some will say 'I want to win titles, I want to play in a top five league, I want to play internationally'.

"Some will say 'I want to make as much money as I can'.

"I don’t think you can knock people because ultimately this is their jobs."

Aston Villa are working to sign Club Brugge central defender Joel Ordonez after failing to agree a deal with Southampton for Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The Premier League side, who sold England defender Ezri Konsa to Arsenal last week, are accelerating their interest in Ordonez, with discussions ongoing and his Belgian Pro League club wanting a minimum £40m fee for the Ecuador international.

The 22-year-old centre-back, who played for his country at this summer's World Cup, has made 124 appearances for Club Brugge since joining in 2022 from Independiente del Valle.

Villa had targeted Harwood-Bellis, but there is understood to be a significant gap in valuation between them and Southampton after an offer worth £18m was rejected.

It remains to be seen whether a transfer for the 24-year-old can still be revived but, as things stand, Unai Emery's side have moved on to other targets.

Hi Tim, yes, the Saudi window does not close until 23 September, so there is a possibility it will drag on.

It may also involve Emi Martinez should he and Villa fail to find a domestic solution away from Villa Park before the end of the Premier League deadline on 1 September.

The window for Turkey closes on 4 September and there was interest from Fenerbahce for Watkins this summer, although any move to the Super Lig has been unlikely for a while.

Those who watch Villa regularly know Ollie Watkins' importance to the side and, should he go, then his value and significance at Villa will only grow in his absence.

Unai Emery wants the window closed before the start of the season, but that would still not stop clubs from Saudi, or elsewhere, raiding Premier League clubs if they do not fall into the same deadline, so it would not stop the uncertainty.

Nottingham Forest are determined to keep full-back Neco Williams this summer amid late interest from Tottenham.

Having sold defender Djed Spence to Inter Milan, Spurs are open to signing a replacement with Williams believed to be among the names internally considered by the London club.

Tottenham's interest in Williams remains at an exploratory stage, however the London club will run into difficulty if they decide to accelerate a move for the 25-year-old before the end of the transfer window.

Sources close to Forest insist the City Ground club will not consider selling the Wales international this summer.

Williams proved a crucial player for Forest last season and is expected to play a key role for new manager Oliver Glasner.

Forest remain in talks with the former Liverpool defender over a new contract and it is their intention to extend his current deal to reflect his importance to the squad.

Williams' current deal expires in the summer of 2029.

It now remains to be seen whether Forest change their stance before the end of the window.

Intriguingly, Glasner has an interest in Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall which poses a potential discussion point between the two Premier League sides but Roberto De Zerbi has insisted the Swede is staying in London.

It is understood Tottenham manager De Zerbi would prefer any Spence replacement to have Premier League experience.

Here are some of your views on Manchester United's pursuit of Brighton's Carlos Balena, having attempted to sign him last summer:

Dave: That's the last-minute decision! I know it has been talked about for a year or so, but in that year he has been non-existent. It seems a bad choice to me. Myles Lewis-Skelly surely outshines Baleba in all aspects football-related and money-related? And, more importantly, he is fit. Baleba is an Andrey Santos inferior and he is more expensive.

Howard: I'm happy with this. We need some strength in midfield and he can provide that. Also, he wants Manchester United which is great. We shouldn't pay too much attention to his poor season last time out, he was unsettled and he will be good for us. Let's hope this happens, we need a good strong defensive midfielder like him.

Thomas: There are far more talented players that have failed at United, and far worse ones that have excelled. We need players with elite mentalities. If he has that, then he has my full support.

Mark: My biggest concern over Baleba is whether he will cope with the higher pressure at United. His form fell off last season - if it was because the move fell through then it would be a concern over his mental strength, if not it is a question over why it happened and whether he can regain that form.

Coops: I'm absolutely baffled by this one. Another bang average midfielder when we desperately need a defensive rebuild. Maxence Lacroix, Ezri Konsa, Jan Paul van Hecke all gone to our rivals. A bad transfer window, despite all the promises, again!

Manchester United have agreed a fee of up to £70m for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.

The two clubs reached a breakthrough in negotiations on Friday evening, which left the 22-year-old free to complete his medical with the Old Trafford outfit this weekend.

United targeted the Cameroon international this week after deciding to strengthen their midfield further following the earlier arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

They will pay an initial £65m, plus a potential £5m in add-ons, while the Seagulls have also negotiated a sell-on clause.

Baleba, who joined Brighton from Lille in 2023, is currently sidelined with an ankle injury he picked up during their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Once the deal goes through, it will take United's summer spending up to £153m.

However, it is also a huge saving on what Brighton were demanding as the 2025 transfer deadline approached.

Manchester City have agreed to sign winger Allan Elias from Palmeiras in a deal worth up to £34.2m.

The 22-year-old Brazilian will come in as a replacement for compatriot Savinho, who looks set to join Tottenham.

City are set to pay a fixed fee of £32m, plus £2.2m in add-ons, and a medical is scheduled to take place in the coming days.

They remain in advanced talks to sell Egypt forward Omar Marmoush to Spurs, and sources with knowledge of the situation say there is a "good chance" the deal gets completed before the 1 September transfer deadline.

Discussions are ongoing between the two clubs and there are some details yet to be agreed.

Midfielder Nico Gonzalez may also depart Etihad Stadium before the end of the transfer window, with strong interest in the Spaniard from Newcastle.
