For the first time in years, I'm actually impressed not only by Man Utd's lineup, but the subs bench as well.

This is a big moment for Hull's Matt Crooks. He's not only making his Premier League debut at the age of 32 but is also facing the club he has supported since he was a child.

He's focused on the task at hand however as he gets in an early tackle to win the ball.

Promoted teams may struggle, but they also have nothing to lose and can play with no pressure. Hull will want to show their credentials in front of their home fans. United have self belief but they must have the performances to match. Great to see Rashford back. Barca have made him a sharper player both mentally and tactically.

Hull are the 36th different English side Bruno Fernandes has faced since joining Manchester United, either scoring or assisting against all but four of those (Norwich, Sunderland, Derby, Grimsby).

The Portuguese has had a hand in 28 goals across his last 28 Premier League appearances, with 15 goal involvements in his last 15 games on the road (4G, 11A).

"COME ON THE TIGERS!" yells the stadium announcer, who is shouting so loud and enthusiastically that he's almost lost his voice by the time he's finished.

  13. 'Delighted to have Rashford back'published at 12:26 BST

Hull v Man Utd (12:30 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick speaking to TNT Sports: "We're excited, the first game of the season brings that. In some ways it is a fresh start with a bit of foundation behind it. Today is a tough game for a lot of reasons but we are ready for it."

On starting new midfield signings Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos: "Top quality between them, two fantastic players and delighted to have them both. The key idea is to make the team better and then individuals within that can thrive as well so that's what makes it exciting."

On Marcus Rashford wearing the number nine shirt and what it suggests: "I don't think that suggests any more than what the situations is. We're delighted to have Marcus back, he's looked fit, sharp and in a really good place. He offers us an awful lot so for sure we are delighted to have him."

On Amad not being on the bench: "He picked up a niggle at the end of the week so we are just assessing that. Hopefully we get Amad back pretty soon, he's been in a good place but we will deal with that."

  14. Baleba fee agreed - what does that mean for Man Utd's left-back search?published at 12:26 BST

Manchester United agreed a £70m deal with Brighton for midfielder Carlos Baleba late last night.

The Cameroon international has been cleared to have a medical, which should take place over the weekend.

It has been expected in addition to a 'third midfielder' United would look to sign competition at left-back for Luke Shaw.

However, the word coming out of Old Trafford is one of caution around that.

Baleba can play at left-back in extremis, while Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have also played there.

If Newcastle's Lewis Hall is the main target but United have concluded they can't get him this summer, maybe they have decided to wait.

We will find out in the next 10 days.

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Oli McBurnie has been there, he's been there with Sheffield United. How are they going to approach these games, are they going to sit back and rely on the counter attack and they're going to have to have a lot of pressure on McBurnie.

He's one of their top scorers and their talisman, not only from an attacking point of view but also from a defensive point of view.

  16. Hull's record buyspublished at 12:21 BST

Hull City's play-off victory means they had less time to prepare for their Premier League return than the other 19 top flight teams.

They have been pushing the boat out in the transfer window in recent days though.

Greece goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis arrived for club record £20m earlier this month.

Within days, Hull broke their club record again to bring in 21-year-old Senegal defender Nobel Mendy.

They have brought in proven Premier League experience in Matt Targett but there is a calculated risk about their business.

Tzolakis and Mendy both start today.

  17. 'The promoted teams will struggle this season'published at 12:20 BST

Hull v Man Utd (12:30 BST)

    Statman Dave
BBC Sport expert on Radio 5 Live

I do have Hull City in and around bottom of the league, I've got them second to bottom. It's just on expected points and metrics.

I think the big thing when you look at this is the three promoted teams this season have about £37m per year estimated wage spend, last season bottom of the table Burnley had around £71m wage spend per year.

That usually always correlates with where they finish on the table. So the promoted teams will struggle this season.

  18. Carrick's 'ridiculous' easy start jibepublished at 12:17 BST

Hull v Man Utd (12:30 BST)

BBC Sport Chief Football News Reporter at the MKM Stadium

Ruben Amorim joked last week that Manchester United’s press conferences are ‘more boring’ since he left the club in January.

That is true. Michael Carrick is far more measured in what he says.

However, the Manchester United head coach responded in pretty forthright fashion in his pre-match press conference on Thursday, when I said there was a view his side had been given a favourable start to the Premier League campaign because their first two games are against newly-promoted teams.

    Carrick called the observation ‘ridiculous’.

“For all of us who know this league, there's no favourable start,” he said.

“I think it's a tough start; both teams. A newly promoted team away from home is a tough game.

“I’m fully aware what's coming at us and what we've got to be ready for.

“It’s not favourable. It's an easy thing to throw out there, but it's pretty ridiculous.”

  19. 'I am living my dream here'published at 12:13 BST

Hull v Man Utd (12:30 BST)

    Hull City

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali speaking to TNT Sports: "We worked a lot and we achieved something memorable. I've never seen a team in our position that have been promoted in history. The way I look to life is if you are a family, nobody can beat you easily. In Hull when I came here, I was received beautifully by the people of Hull, it's such a beautiful place here. I am living my dream here with these beautiful people. It is the best thing to share your happiness with your loved ones so I am living my dream."

On the transfer market: "In football it is the same. When you are at a level that people want to come to you in the Premier League, we spend time to convince them. It is not easy.

"The biggest game in the world is this transfer puzzle to try and compete. I enjoy when I get the players. If I cannot get what I want, I'm depressed. If I want a player I will do everything to get them. You have a certain budget, we cannot spend like crazy. We have to be very conservative in some deals."

"You will see today a different style of team who will play with their hearts who got us to the Premier League. Today our boys will give everything on the pitch.

On motivation to prove people wrong: "Everyone is making predictions and putting Hull 20th. That's what I like, our fans like. Nobody thinks we will achieve anything."

  20. Harry Maguire gets warm welcome back at Hullpublished at 12:10 BST

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire received a warm reception from the Hull fans when his name was read out in the visiting line-up.

Maguire made 75 appearances in a three-year spell with the Tigers from 2014, before moving to Leicester.

He started when Hull beat Manchester United on their last visit to this stadium in the EFL Cup semi-final in January 2017.
