  1. CLOSE!published at 55 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

So close to a Pompey leveller.

Jayden Meghoma's shot from the edge of the area is blocked and it comes back to Adrian Segecic.

Segecic gets an effort away but it flies narrowly wide of the post.

The start to this second half has been incredibly open already.

We've seen chances at both ends after five minutes of action with players still throwing themselves into tackles.

That save from Schmid was absolutely tremendous and crucial for Portsmouth if they are to get back into this game.

Saints should really be two up.

  3. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

That was a really poor tackle by Finn Azaz.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 54 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

    Oof, it's getting very heated.

Southampton's Finn Azaz slides in with a terrible tackle on the touchline to hack down Ebou Adams midway inside the Pompey half.

And now the two sets of players come together for some handbags.

Meghoma is also booked in the aftermath.

  5. 'Game boiling over'published at 13:11 BST

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

    Adam Blackmore
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Cyle Larin is furious. The referee booked Larin for asking for a yellow card.

This game is in danger of going off the rails. It's boiling over a bit, which surely suits the team with a man less.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 52 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Portsmouth are back on the attack once more and Saints are going to try and play on the counter.

Cyle Larin tries to break away for the home side but he's brought down Pompey defender Madiodio Dia.

But it is Larin who is cautioned for brandishing an imaginary yellow card.

  7. 'Portsmouth were exposed'published at 13:08 BST

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

    Guy Whittingham
Former Portsmouth manager on BBC Radio Solent

Brilliant from Nicolas Schmid. Portsmouth were exposed by a crossfield pass after pressing.

It wasn't as if it was a quick counter-attack. Defensively, Portsmouth have got to be better organised.

  8. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 49 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Southampton are convinced they should have a penalty now.

The corner comes in from the left and Keven Schlotterbeck's header hits Colby Bishop.

Looks like it hits Bishop's face then chest, rather than arm. Correct decision to wave it away by the ref.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 48 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

The 10 men of Southampton almost double their lead straight after the restart.

Saints launch a counter and Finn Azaz threads a wonderful ball through to Leo Scienza.

Scienza is bearing down on goal, one-on-one with Nicolas Schmid, but Schmid is out well to make a huge save with his outstretched left arm as Scienza tries to lift it over him.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 46 mins

John Mousinho has made a change at the break for Portmsouth.

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, who almost brought Pompey level just before half-time, has been replaced by Adrian Segecic.

Saints remain unchanged despite being down to 10.

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

Away we go for the second half of the south coast derby at St Mary's.

If the first 45 minutes was anything to go by, we're in for more entertainment.

Anyone's guess as to which way this one might go now.

Southampton's Cameron Bragg (right) fouls Portsmouth's Ebou Adams which results in a second yellow card and sent offImage source, PA Media

Correct decision - deserved a red card. Although maybe Ebou Adams should put as much passion into his football as he does screaming at refs to send someone off.

    Jasper, Verwood

I have to say: this ref has made some interesting decisions and is very card-happy.

    Glen Turner, Bristol

I’m not happy with that scoreboard – no matter who the opponents are, always give them respect!

A tightly contested encounter so far with Saints holding a narrow lead, albeit a man down.

How much will that red card for Southampton midfielder Cameron Bragg change the game?

  15. 'Bishop chance was way too easy'published at 12:53 BST

    HT: Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

    Jo Tessem
Ex-Southampton midfielder on BBC Radio Solent

Two silly yellow cards. Both of them are Cameron Bragg's fault because he loses the ball.

That Portsmouth chance at the end of the half was way too easy for them. The way we defended that shot - I don't like to see people closing their backs or holding out a leg.

No-one was actually going towards the ball. That's a worry.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 12:49 BST

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

With the last act of the half, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen almost draws the visitors level, flashing a shot just wide of the post from the edge of the box.

It's advantage Southampton at the break in terms of the scoreline. Advantage Pompey in terms of the number of players on the pitch.

James Bree put Saints ahead after 20 minutes with a clever slotted finish following Finn Azaz's clipped ball over the top.

But Cameron Bragg has been sent off for a second yellow card for the home side on the stroke of half-time after pulling down Ebou Adams.

  17. Game on!published at 12:48 BST

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

    Dan George
BBC Sport, Hampshire at St Mary's

Well that really throws a spanner into the works for Southampton.

Bragg walks off the field, pulling his shirt over his face and is consoled by Leo Scienza and Tonda Eckert as he comes off.

The Pompey fans cheer while the hosts sing "Cameron Bragg he's one of our own".

The visitors suddenly look like they have an extra spring in their step, game on!

  18. 'Bragg was absolutely crestfallen'published at 12:48 BST

They are both clear-as-day yellow cards. When was the last time you saw a red card that no player from either team contested?

Bragg was absolutely crestfallen as he went off. Even he wasn't protesting. He just got it wrong.

  19. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45+1 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Two minutes added on at the end of an action-packed first half.

  20. Postpublished at 45+1 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Almost an immediate impact for Pompey.

The free-kick is well worked on the left and then the cross comes in for Colby Bishop.

Bishop heads towards the corner but Daniel Peretz is across well to save.
