  1. 'Bishop chance was way too easy'published at 12:53 BST

    HT: Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Ex-Southampton midfielder on BBC Radio Solent

Two silly yellow cards. Both of them are Cameron Bragg's fault because he loses the ball.

That Portsmouth chance at the end of the half was way too easy for them. The way we defended that shot - I don't like to see people closing their backs or holding out a leg.

No-one was actually going towards the ball. That's a worry.

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 12:49 BST

With the last act of the half, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen almost draws the visitors level, flashing a shot just wide of the post from the edge of the box.

It's advantage Southampton at the break in terms of the scoreline. Advantage Pompey in terms of the number of players on the pitch.

James Bree put Saints ahead after 20 minutes with a clever slotted finish following Finn Azaz's clipped ball over the top.

But Cameron Bragg has been sent off for a second yellow card for the home side on the stroke of half-time after pulling down Ebou Adams.

Well that really throws a spanner into the works for Southampton.

Bragg walks off the field, pulling his shirt over his face and is consoled by Leo Scienza and Tonda Eckert as he comes off.

The Pompey fans cheer while the hosts sing "Cameron Bragg he's one of our own".

The visitors suddenly look like they have an extra spring in their step, game on!

They are both clear-as-day yellow cards. When was the last time you saw a red card that no player from either team contested?

Bragg was absolutely crestfallen as he went off. Even he wasn't protesting. He just got it wrong.

  5. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45+1 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Two minutes added on at the end of an action-packed first half.

  6. Postpublished at 45+1 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Almost an immediate impact for Pompey.

The free-kick is well worked on the left and then the cross comes in for Colby Bishop.

Bishop heads towards the corner but Daniel Peretz is across well to save.

  7. RED CARD: Cameron Bragg (Southampton)published at 44 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Well, well, well. How might this change things?

Cameron Bragg has his pocket picked in midfield by Portsmouth midfielder Ebou Adams and Bragg grabs his shirt and hauls Adams to the ground.

Bragg is shown a second yellow and has to walk.

Former Portsmouth manager on BBC Radio Solent

Portsmouth are getting the chances. It's not like they're just having to fling balls in.

They've got to make the most of the opportunities.

  9. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Half-chance for Portsmouth as Tyrese Shade once again gets in behind on the left flank.

Shade pulls it back from the byeline to Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, but the Chelsea loanee takes a poor first touch and then the ball gets away from him, allowing Flynn Downes to clear for Saints.

Here's some more derby day fun for you.

The scoreboard at St Mary's has got "visitors" instead of Portsmouth and instead of a blue background, the club have displayed their team on a white half of the screen!

  11. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

For a split second, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen thinks he's in behind for Pompey.

He gets away a shot and it's well blocked for a corner... but then the flag goes up for offside anyway.

  12. 'Saints need to work on defending free-kicks'published at 12:37 BST

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

    Jo Tessem
Ex-Southampton midfielder on BBC Radio Solent

Southampton are vulnerable from set-pieces. It's chaotic when we have free-kicks against us.

We've conceded a few times from those. We need to work on it. Something needs to improve a little.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 35 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Pompey win a corner on the left and there is a lot of pushing and shoving before the ball even comes in.

Ebou Adams is shown a yellow card for Portsmouth for shoving Ryan Manning to the ground.

Zak Swanson eventually sends it into the mixer and Daniel Peretz pushes it away before Saints clear.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 33 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

Ryan Manning throws to Cameron Bragg inside his own half and then he loses possession before dragging down Ebou Adams, who was driving forward for Pompey.

    Bragg is into the book.

James Bree is then able to clear the Portsmouth free-kick into touch.

  15. 'Southampton chances a worry'published at 12:32 BST

    Southampton 1-0 Portsmouth

    Guy Whittingham
Former Portsmouth manager on BBC Radio Solent

The difference in quality comes through. Two good chances fell Portsmouth's way, but the worry is the chances at the other end that they haven't been able to do anything about.

Seeing the chances Southampton have had down that left side, I'm wondering whether Ryan Kavuma-McQueen should have been on that side for Portsmouth.

Kavuma-McQueen and Abu Kamara haven't had the ball enough. Most passes have gone to Tyrese Shade. Maybe that's the right thing - I don't know.

I'm watching Kamara and I'm not sure he knows where to go in that number 10 role.

Flynn Downes is surrounded by about four Pompey defenders in the visiting penalty area and fights tooth and nail to try and keep the ball.

After a real scrap, referee Adam Herczeg decides Downes has made a foul.

Not sure how you can tell who was doing what there...

Working a Sunday-to-Thursday week here in Bahrain means I have had to book myself an end-of-day meeting so as not to be disturbed. Just need an early couple of Saints goals now!

Southampton come forward once more with Leo Scienza down the left.

Scienza sticks one up to the back post and James Bree knocks it down back across the face of goal but Pompey can hack it clear.

Saints have settled into even more sustained possession since going 1-0 up.

James Bree sends Southampton's fans into absolute raptures as he sticks that one in the net.

He's been the most advanced on the right of the new formation for large periods of the game and was found in a bit of space on the far side of the box for his goal there.

The Saints fans are on their feet right now with a hint of pyrotechnics in the air as they continue to celebrate.

Let's see if Portsmouth can respond.
