Lewis Orford clips Marcus Edwards and the Clarets winger tries to keep on his feet to sustain the attack but can't, taking a tumble to settle for a free-kick instead.

Burnley do well to move the ball around a crowded final third but Aaron Ramsey can't get enough on his strike to threaten the Hammers keeper.

He might not be a welcome sight for travelling fans given the Toffees' links with their former England international Kyle Walker as of late.

West Ham's clearance is weak and Oliver Sonne is able to get some pace on his header from outside the box.

It's sent wide but Sonne still has a smile beaming on his face, probably thought it was a bit of a punt anyway and it wasn't far off.

West Ham have grasped the nettle.

Burnley started well but West Ham managed that and got the lead, and when you have the quality of Jarrod Bowen on the pitch they'll look to get a second.

Kyle Walker is robbed off possession and Burnley have to react with not one but two fouls.

The first is awarded an advantage, then Manor Soloman is tripped near the box to earn a free-kick.

Jarrod Bowen whips it in nicely but the nod from Konstantinos Mavropanos flies into the sky.

Aaron Ramsey is close to making amends for the defensive error that led to the goal but he slips as he takes aim and the ball drifts off target.

Nice build up play to that, though. This game is promising to be pleasant on the eye.

The Burnley supporters are subdued by comparison and they are wondering could the Clarets continue their yo-yo status and win promotion back to the Premier League.

It is a very special day for Nicky Hayen and not only was this his first Championship game, it is also the Belgian’s 46th birthday.

All the word from inside Turf Moor is positive about Hayen and the impact he is making as he tries to make Burnley more attacking.

With all the noise surrounding West Ham, Burnley are hoping that eases the pressure on them at Turf Moor.

All the talk is about West Ham being favourites for the Championship and they flexed their impressive financial muscle by spending a Championship record sum of £22m on Celtic's Arne Engels.

Engels was signed too late to make his debut at Turf Moor, but the Hammers could still field the talent of skipper Jarrod Bowen, Manor Solomon, Maximilian Kilman and Valentin Castellanos.

Burnley boss Nicky Hayen has barely been in the job five weeks as he tries to turn the Clarets around after last season's dismal campaign and he handed debuts to on-loan Manchester City defender Max Alleyne and French midfielder Ugo Raghouber.

History was against Burnley and they had not won a league game at Turf Moor since beating Leeds on 18 October, 15 matches ago. They have also struggled against West Ham and are winless in their past eight meetings, going back to July 2020.

But they have gone up automatically in their past two Championship campaigns with 100 points or more in 2023 and 2025. In fact, they have only lost five of their last 115 Championship matches.
