    Fenerbahce 0-0 Liverpool

Fenerbahce's first chance to get men forward comes with a throw-in on the right.

They launch it long into the box but Virgil van Dijk heads it away and Liverpool try to break through Victor Munoz.

He's well marshalled by left-back Archie Brown, though, and ends up giving away a free-kick for a shove on the Fenerbahce man.

Jeremy Jacquet does really well. His movement is good. He comes in behind and I think he should probably do better. A lot better.

Two big chances for Liverpool in the first five minutes.

There's constant jeers from the Fenerbahce fans whenever Liverpool have the ball. It is very loud but the early signs are that this is the way the game will go.

  4. 'What a chance'published at 17:53 GMT 4 November

    Fenerbahce 0-0 Liverpool

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Jacquet should score. What a chance that was.

You can hear more from Warnock on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:40 GMT on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

    Fenerbahce 0-0 Liverpool

The initial corner is cleared but the ball is put back into the box and Jeremy Jacquet meets it in the middle.

Good chance but he doesn't get enough on the header and it slides wide.

  6. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Fenerbahce 0-0 Liverpool

First chance of the game falls to Liverpool.

Kostas Tsmikas' cross comes through to Victor Munoz in plenty of space, he completes scuffs his shot but the ball comes back to him as Bradley Barcola fails to divert the ball goalwards.

Much better effort this time from Munoz and Ederson has to push it around the post.

Liverpool are content to knock the ball around at the back and ease themselves in early on. Fenerbahce are equally happy to let them do so, it seems.

Really arrogant comment from Noah (17:22). Liverpool have never ever won in Turkey with their first choice eleven. I would argue that they are 2nd favourites tonight even with their first eleven. Games in Turkey are never easy and Fenerbahce have some really good players.

Here come the players, the rain is teeming down but the stadium is bouncing for what promises to be an intriguing game.

On recent form, Liverpool should be clear favourites but their record in Turkey shows that it may not be quite that simple...

This Fenerbahce side has over 1,000 Premier League appearances between them and are of course coached by former Liverpool man Dirk Kuyt tonight.

Kuyt is only the interim after Ismail Kartal resigned last week. Fenerbahce actually appointed a new manager last night and it's former Newcastle player Emre who will take over the reigns after this game. Quite a lot going on in Istanbul!

After tonight's game, Liverpool have got some pretty interesting fixtures either side of the international break.

Back-to-back league fixtures against Manchester United and Everton stand out with the added complication of a Champions League game at Club Brugge in between.

Win tonight and there is a little less pressure on that game in Belgium, though. Another reason three points would be so welcome for Andoni Iraola's side...

Last time out in the Champions League, Liverpool recovered from a terrible start as they came back from 2-0 down to beat Villarreal 4-3 at Anfield.

It was a strange game in so much as the Reds managed to simultaneously make it look both comfortable and extremely hard work.

They got the three points, though, and without doubt the shining light that evening was Rio Ngumoha.

The teenage winger was electric down the right with his nine dribbles completed against Villarreal the most by any player in a single game through the first three rounds of Champions League games.

Ngumoha's 18 completed dribbles in the competition this season are also the most of any player across the first three gameweeks.

Jayden Danns has certainly shown a real striker's instinct in what little we've seen of him in a Liverpool shirt, Jim.

He has had a terrible time of it with injuries, though, so it's probably to be expected that he's been eased back very slowly. But, if things go well for Liverpool, maybe he does get a few minutes later?

In terms of cover up front, it's worth remembering Hugo Ekitike will be back at some stage towards the end of the year/ in the New Year, although he's another who will need to be handled very carefully after his Achilles injury.

If possible Liverpool need to give Danns some minutes. Injuries have held him back for a couple of seasons. But pre that he showed he was a natural finisher. Desperate for him to stay fit and alongside Koumas give real cover at centre forward.
