A crowd of more than 5,000 - a record for a Wales women's game in Llanelli - is expected at Parc y Scarlets and Rhian Wilkinson will hope the home fans will inspire another strong performance from her team.

In this Women's World Cup qualifying campaign, after all, home advantage has made a big difference for Wilkinson's team.

In their group games on Welsh soil, Wales scored 13 goals and conceded only two en route to nine points.

On their travels, by contrast, Wales scored four goals and conceded three on the way to a win and two draws.

Their struggle to deliver a stellar away performance continued on Friday when Wales were fortunate to claim a 1-0 first-leg success in Shkoder.

Wales will hope for a much more convincing display this evening.

Wales' potential route to the 2027 World Cup in Brazil is a complicated one due the unique way UEFA structure these play-offs.

Based on the Nations League final placings, the lowest ranked side who win a play-off final still won't be certain of their place in the finals next summer and will have to compete in the Inter-confederations play-offs in February.

Wales are the lowest ranked of the League B winners but after Finland upset Serbia earlier tonight, they won't be the lowest ranked side involved in the play-off final assuming Rhian Wilkinson's team finish off the job tonight against Albania.

So there is still a possibility they could avoid an extra game in the new year.

  4. Wales need momentum before the finalpublished at 19:06 BST

    Wales v Albania (19:15 BST)

    Mark Poyser
BBC Radio Wales commentator at Parc y Scarlets

Despite it being nervy in Shkoder on Friday, Wales are expected to finish the job tonight in Llanelli against a nation ranked 36 places below them in the FIFA rankings.

Even though they can set a new record by making it ten games without defeat tonight, it doesn't feel like Wales have been a full tilt so far in the qualifying campaign.

And they surely need to build some momentum if they are to topple Norway in the final in December and continue their quest for a first ever place at a World Cup finals.

After all, the women in red have never beaten a top 20 nation in a competitive game.

  5. Can they thrive and thrill - just like last Llanelli game?published at 19:04 BST

    Ian Hunt
    Presenter on BBC Radio Wales

Former Wales international Nia Jones summed up what many Wales fans might have thought after Friday's 1-0 first leg win in Albania - Wales were just a bit "boring", she said, on the latest Feast of Football podcast.

You could argue getting the job done - coming away with a win and a clean sheet - was all that mattered, but wouldn't it be encouraging if Rhian Wilkinson's side could show a bit of style and swagger in front of a bumper Llanelli crowd tonight to boost confidence all round ahead of (hopefully) the play-off final in December?

That's exactly what they did in the last Wales game held at Parc y Scarlets in April, a resounding 6-1 win over group minnows Montenegro in the qualifying campaign. The opposition might have been limited, but Wales sparkled that day, with Hannah Cain and rising star Mared Griffiths each scoring twice. A vibrant, confident, swashbuckling version of Wales that we certainly didn't see in Albania four days ago.

A bit more flair and fluency in Llanelli tonight? Might give Norway something to think about ahead of that expected December shootout with Gemma Grainger's side.

  6. Attacking intent to come from Wales?published at 19:02 BST

Maybe we'll see a little bit more attacking intent.

I think an early goal or two will do wonders for the team, the crowd and settle any nerves.

Although you don't want to go all out, that would be a good way to start the game and almost put it to bed nice and early.

But they'll have to be really switched on from the first minute.

The last time Wales played in a World Cup play-off semi-final a certain Jess Fishlock came to the rescue.

It was back in 2022 against Bosnia-Herzegovina at Cardiff City Stadium. It seemed like the game was going to penalties as it was 0-0 going into extra time.

But step forward Wales’ greatest ever player who produced a stunning volley to seal their place in the final.

Coming into this game with a 1-0 lead after the first leg - let’s hope Wales don’t need any extra time drama.

But if they do I wonder if they have a player capable of doing what Fishlock used to do over and over again in a red shirt.

  9. Hughes on Wales' World Cup dreampublished at 18:57 BST

Wales forward Elise Hughes says the prospect of reaching the World Cup would fulfil a lifelong ambition but insists the focus remains on Tuesday's play-off second leg against Albania.

Rhian Wilkinson's side take a slender 1-0 advantage into the return fixture in Llanelli after edging the first leg of their play-off semi-final.

A draw would be enough to send Wales through to the next stage of qualifying for next summer's tournament in Brazil.

"When you're a kid, it doesn't get bigger than that," Hughes said of playing at a World Cup.

"You dream and you're in the garden thinking of the World Cup and you're at your grassroots team thinking of the World Cup.

"Now this group has a chance to do it and that is the most important thing for the group here and now.

"But to do that, we've got to win the game on Tuesday. This is the most important game to date because it's next."

Captain Angharad James has revealed Wales' players have been given a play-off history lesson as they bid to take another step towards a first Women's World Cup.

"We had a players' meeting on the first day just to integrate the group and to make sure everyone was aware of the importance of this camp and what it means to represent Wales and what it means to be in a play-off position," she said.

"We have to give everything. It's a final game for us and every game is.

"[The meeting was] just to make sure everyone's up to speed."

Wales are unbeaten in nine matches, and should they avoid defeat tonight, they will set a new record.

Their previous best unbeaten run of nine games came between 2013 and 2014, and Rhian Wilkinson is targeting a slice of history in more ways than one in Llanelli.

“What a wonderful record for me to have, but more than anything, this is about the team showing up for each other and delivering to a standard we can be proud of,” said Wilkinson.

“Win or lose, this is a very special team and I’ll stand with them all day. But we know we want to be better for ourselves and equally for the fans.”

  13. Albania team news - visitors make three changespublished at 18:49 BST

Albania make three changes to the side which started on Friday, with experienced defensive trio Arbiona Bajraktari, Gresa Berisha and Sara Maliqi all missing out.

But the good news for Albania is that their dangerous front three - Fortesa Berisha, Qendresa Krasniqi and captain Megi Doci - all start once more.

Albania: Spahiu, Hamonikaj, Franja, Hila, Ndoj, Metalla, Zarka, Levenaj, F Berisha, Krasniqi, Doci (capt).

Subs: Hyska, Spaho, Elezaj, Islam, Maxhalaku, Troka, Borci, Kuqi, Begallo, Dedgjonaj.

    Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales at Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli

Wales boss Rhian Wilkinson has made two alterations to the side which started Friday's first leg victory in Albania and, interestingly, there also looks to be a change of system.

Having made an impressive competitive debut from the bench in Shkoder, 19-year-old Manchester United defender Scarlett Hill starts tonight.

She looks set to start on the right of a back four as Wilkinson moves away from three central defenders.

Hannah Cain also returns to the starting side as Esther Morgan and Rachel Rowe drop out.

Wales: Middleton-Patel, Hill, Davies, Evans, Woodham, Ingle, James (capt), Cain, Jones, Griffiths, Hughes.

Subs: Farrell-Shrouder, Kelly, Estcourt, Williams, Morgan, Rowe, Gregson, Joel, Francis, Poole, Teisar, McAteer.

    Good evening everyone.

Wales have the advantage, but it's a slender one, and there's plenty at stake tonight.

Ezmiralda Franja's own goal in Shkoder was enough for Rhian Wilkinson's side to claim victory on Friday night.

But they will need to get the job done in Llanelli tonight to book their place in the play-off final.

So let's get stuck into it, starting with the team news...
